I haven't written for these guys in quite a while. But gosh I will love them til the day I die.
---------
Madixâs stomach tried its hardest to digest the sludge of food that he had forced down his throat all that day. It wasnât his faultâthe nachos had such bubbly warm cheese that called his name, and the burger had caramelized onions that begged him to approach. Now all the grease and sugar goated his gut in a layer of grime. His tummy burbled sickeningly as it attempted to deal with the overwhelm that a day at the fair had caused. Â
He staggered next to Dakota who seemed to be dealing with the food expertly. He had been a fool to think that he could keep up with his best friend. The man was a pro at putting away every dish they came across.Â
Poutine, easy. Ice cream, no problem. He simply sighed contently after every bite that got Madix feeling more and more like a zombie.Â
It was a struggle to pick up his feet, but he had to keep up, or else Riley and Blair would run off into the crowd, never to be seen again with their significant others.Â
At least Dakota hung back with him, even if it was because he kept getting distracted by the food vendors and not because he noticed Madixâs deteriorated state. He jumped excitedly in line for a beaver tail.Â
Madix swallowed thickly as he came to stand next to his friend. The Canadian treat gave off the sickly-sweet aroma of syrups and cheesecake. The people around them carried their oversized pastries that dripped with thick white frosting or a drizzling of rich chocolate.Â
âI think I want the brownie one!â he said, pointing to the sign ahead. âIt has Nutella on it! Do you want to split it with me?âÂ
Madix moaned and jammed his head into Dakotaâs shoulder. ââŚ. Ugh.âÂ
âOkay fine, jeez? How about the strawberry cheesecake?â
"Noooo..."
He gave his arm a jerk. âWhy you sound so mopey, Maddy?âÂ
âToo much foodâŚâ he slurred out. His chest hitched with a hiccup. The nausea made all his muscles stiff. âI donât feel good. How can you still be hungry?âÂ
âClassic mistake.â Dakota pulled his greenish friend into a side hug. âWeâve moved beyond our primitive needs. Hunger has nothing to do with it anymore. Itâs all about the experience.âÂ
âOh, I think Iâm in for a doozy of an âexperienceâ any minute now.âÂ
Dakota chuckled at first, but then quickly wondered how much Madix was joking. The boy next to him swayed with fatigue. His eyelids were droopy as if his full stomach were weighing every part of him down. Personally, he felt only the beginnings of fullness, but Madix was nearing the end of his limits it seemed.Â
He took off his sunglasses, only then realizing how quickly the sun had set. The sky was now purple and pink, and Madixâs cheeks were grey. âYou do look pale, buddy. Maybe take a break from the rides and food.âÂ
âYeah, I think I have to. Iâd like to sit down as well, but I donât want to lose Riley and Blair.âÂ
Dakota waved this away. âIâll text Blair that we stopped for a break. Look, we can sit under that tree, thereâs a bench.âÂ
Dakota ate his pastry happily while next to him Madix wondered what was going on with his belly. He was full, but this level of nausea was intense. If he were at home, heâd most likely be on the bathroom floor by now. Here, he was not sure how far a walk the nearest bathroom was. Instead, he would focus on keeping the food down until he had time to digest.Â
Dakota was not helping with the way he devoured the chocolate mess of dough and oil. Â
âUgh, Kota. I want to go home. I think I may actually throw up, but thereâs a lot of people here.â He hugged his belly.
âYou feel that bad?â The sudden development surprised him. âIâve seen you eat way more."
âI donât know whyâŚâ Madix burped and let out a nauseous moan. âI just feel really fucking sick.â He glanced at his friend with his glassy eyes. âWould you hurry up and eat that already. Itâs dripping onto your hand.âÂ
Dakota licked the precarious drop of icing. âItâs messy, Iâm sorry.â After three huge bites and finger licking, he finished the treat in time to see Madix shudder and gag.Â
Madix suddenly stood up on shaky legs. This was bad. He could feel pressure growing in his throat. Rising.Â
âOh God, I canât keep it down.â He tried to speak through the nausea and the hand that covered his mouth. âOne second.â He wandered away from the main road, away from the bench where they sat, and beyond the fenced in grass.Â
Dakota quickly followed his swaying friend.Â
âOookay, I guess weâre going on a little excursion.â He grimaced at the retch that tore up Madixâs throat. He grabbed his friendâs arm to steady him. âThis is a good spot to let loose, Maddy. Iâve got you.âÂ
A shower of vomit came gushing from Madixâs mouth. It was orange and frothy. His poor belly squeezed in on itself tighter. Another mouthful of greasy mush added to the puddle at his feet. He felt the muscles in his back tense continuously as the heaves sent him forward.Â
A groan of misery escaped him.Â
Dakota kept a firm grip on his woozy friend. It was odd to see him so weak. Every gag pushed him around like a puppet dangling on a string. âKneel here, Madix. Youâre swaying a lot and I donât like it.âÂ
âDonât feel good,â he slurred. A hiccup made his chest jump and more slushy vomit splattered onto the grass. The sound gurgled in his throat. âUgh, my belly. Iâm so full.âÂ
Wave after wave came up from Madixâs upset belly. It was relentless and slow. Whenever he thought he was finished, the nausea shot back through his body. Droplets of sweat coated his forehead, dampening the strands of hair that hung in front of his eyes.Â
Dakota brushed the hair off his forehead. It was not a hot night and yet still Madix was melting. âYouâre so out it, man. I think you have a fever.âÂ
Madix nodded lazily. âYeah probably. This is a lot.â He blinked quickly. âI canât focus long enough toâŚtoâŚdo anything.âÂ
âYou donât have to do anything but sit. Wait until you feel better. Do you still need to puke?âÂ
âI think so.â He rubbed his stomach. âItâs like gurgling, my belly. This was not a good time to eat fair food.âÂ
âNo kidding,â Dakota laughed, âIâll jot that down: donât go to fair with flu.â Â

My first post. This was from last weekend, but Iâm so fucking horny I decided to share. Had my regular protein shake for lunch, and it made my stomach hurt really bad. I went to go lay down, thinking it would pass, but I really didnât feel good. I was sweating. My stomach was gurgling. I couldnât stop burping. All of a sudden I got the intense urge to gag. There was this awful, nauseating pressure in my chest. I felt like I was about to throw up everywhere! I never vomit so this was a surprise. I ran to the bathroom and started recording. I brought up the protein shake and lots of coffee and bits of breakfast. I felt much better after getting it all up. Ugh. My dick is throbbing just thinking about it.
Read Part I here:Â http://georgeh746.tumblr.com/post/102423642793/jen-and-sean-get-a-stomach-virus-part-1
Part II: Sean overdoes it the next morning, thinking he might be better. Later, Jen comes down with the stomach virus, too. Part 3âwhich will focus on Jenâis in the works.
Sean finally fell asleep after the shower, and slept for hours. When he woke up, around 9, he at first thought he might be better. He felt great, all of a suddenâand starving. Jen was nowhere to be found, so he went to the kitchen and made himself some oatmeal. He ate it quickly, then made some more. He washed it all down with a glass of orange juice and some water and then decided to lay down on the couch. He felt great, still, but suddenly very full, as if maybe heâd overdone it just a little.
He lay on the couch, watching TV, and started to drift off. Just then, the front door opened and Jen walked in with a couple of shopping bags. âI got some more ginger ale,â she said, âand some crackers. How are you feeling?â
âBetter,â Sean said, but was now starting to worry that heâd overestimated his recovery. His stomach was working awfully hard to digest the oatmeal and orange juice. He was starting to taste the stomach acid in the back of his throat and was dreading the moment when the orange juice came back up. He knew it was going to, now, but was hoping everything might digestâand mellowâa little more before it did. âI ate some oatmeal. But now Iâm feeling a little sick again. I think I just ate too much.â
Jen rolled her eyes. âYou probably shouldnât have done that.â
âIâll be okay,â he said, rubbing his stomach with one hand. âItâs just taking some time to digest.â He swallowed hard.
âDo you need to get to the bathroom?â she asked, noting how the color was quickly draining from his face.
âNo,â he said, swallowing again. He was determined to keep it down. âIâm okay.â
âNo, youâre not,â she said, grabbing a mixing bowl from the dishwasher and coming to the couch to sit next to him. She helped him sit up and placed the bowl on his lap. âYou have the stomach flu.â
Sean had hoped he could hold it down, but the second he looked into the mixing bowl and imagined the oatmeal and orange juice making a mess on the bottom of it, he started to salivate. âOh shit,â he said, swallowing hard, hoping to fight it.
Jenâs hand rubbed his back, and the second she hit the spot right between his shoulder blades, it was like a reflex: his whole body contracted and a stream of oatmeal and orange juiceâchunky, creamy, and burning his throatâcame shooting up and into the mixing bowl. He gagged again and brought up another mouthful of chunky oatmeal vomit. It came out his nose, too, and dripped into the bowl.
âHere,â Jen said, handing him a Kleenex from the coffee table. Sean started to blow his nose, but then burped halfway through and threw up another gush. He coughed twice, gagged unproductively three times, and then spit.
âFuck,â he said, leaning back against the couch. He groaned and placed both hands on his stomach. âGod, I feel so sick.â
Jen set the mixing bowlâstill full of his pukeâon the coffee table and leaned in next to him. She put her head on his chest and her hand on his stomach, gently rubbing it. âDoes this help?â
âMmmm,â Sean said, trying to relax. The warmth from Jenâs hand seemed to help, slightly, so he leaned back and closed his eyes. Pretty soon, he felt himself growing hard as her touch moved closer and closer to his dick. He half-groaned, half-moaned; he was suddenly so turned on, but felt nauseous, still.
âKeep going,â he said, and felt Jen reach under the waistband of his pajama pants, taking him in her hand. He tried to concentrate on just how good it felt, rather than how sick he still was. It was working, sort of, until it wasnât anymore: he didnât want her to stop, but the movement was upsetting his stomach, and he knew he was about to throw up. He swallowed hard and choked back a gag.
âDo you need me to stop?â Jen asked.
âNo,â he said, âbut hand me the bowl.â
Jen did as he asked, still stroking him with one hand, and helping him steady the mixing bowl between them with the other hand. As her movements sped up, Seanâs stomach lurched and he gagged softly, and unproductively, into the bowl. A second later, he gagged again, and threw up three long streams of vomit, barely making a sound except a soft burp with each heave and the sound of the vomit splashing into the bowl. He gagged once more, louder this time, and puked one last time before he came, relaxing back against the couch and trying to catch his breath.
âYou okay?â Jen asked, softly touching his stomach again. He nodded, taking another breath. âGood.â
**
After cleaning up and sleeping on and off all afternoonâhe woke up once and threw up the rest of the oatmeal, and a couple of glasses worth of ginger ale into the toilet, but then slowly started to feel a little betterâSean decided to try eating one more time. This time he started slowly, with some saltines. When he held those down for a while, he ate some more oatmeal. That seemed to help his stomach, so he had some more, and a glass of ginger ale.
He was laying on the couch, relaxing, when Jen came into the living room. Sheâd been in the shower, he thought, but now her face was pale. âSean? I think Iâm going to throw up,â she said. She swallowed hard. âI thought maybe I was just hungry,â she said, then swallowed again. âBut now I feel really sick.â
âYou must have caught it, too,â Sean said, slowly getting up from the couch. âCome on,â he said, leading her toward the bathroom.
âI really donât want to throw up,â Jen said, starting to panic. It had been years since sheâd been sick, Sean knew. âIs it as bad as I remember?â she asked.
âItâs okay,â Sean said, helping her kneel in front of the toilet. âJust take a breath.â
She did, trying to relax. The more she relaxed, though, the worse her stomach churned. Staring at the toilet bowl, thinking of what it had looked like earlier, when Sean threw up the last time, with chunks of oatmeal splashed up against the sides, made her feel even sicker. âOh god,â she said, and tried to keep herself from gagging. It was no use, though, and she immediately burped, loudly, and sent a stream of brown, chunky vomit splashing into the toilet.
Sean held her hair back with one hand, rubbed her back with the other. âJust get it all up,â he said, and she responded by heaving once again, sending another stream of vomit to splash into the toilet. Listening to her, he was simultaneous turned on and grossed out. He felt himself getting harder, but something about watching her vomit, and hearing it splash into the water, made him start to think he might need to throw up again soon.
Jen took a couple of breaths, fighting to get her stomach to stop heaving, and leaned back against Sean. âI thinkâŚI think I might be done,â she said, but then quickly leaned forward, opened her mouth, and sent another stream of vomit into the toilet.
That was it for Sean; he felt his stomach start to heave, and his mouth was salivating. âAre you done?â he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
âYeah,â Jen said, leaning back against the tub.
âGood,â he choked out, and then quickly got his mouth over the toilet just in time to burp, and send a stream of his own stomach contentsâhis mostly clear, watery, with just a few chunks and the slight hint of ginger aleâsplashing into the toilet to mix with Jenâs.
Confident that his stomach was calm for the time being, he reached up and flushed the toilet, then leaned back against the bathtub, his head leaning against Jenâs shoulder.
âCan we take a shower?â Jen asked. âI just feel so gross, and I feel like it would help.â
He nodded, and slowly got to his feet, then helped Jen up, too. He stripped out of his own clothes, helped Jen take hers off, and then started the shower, adjusting the temperature before he stepped in and then helped Jen in, too. She seemed dizzy and her body was hot against his, a new fever taking over; his had started to go away a few hours ago.
Under the water, Jen felt better and worse simultaneously. She relaxed against Sean, taking a few breaths and trying to keep her stomach from churning. She could feel his erection against her thigh and reached down to touch it, then guided Seanâs hand to her own inner thigh; he took over from there.
She leaned back against the wall of the shower and let Sean kiss her, the taste of vomit on both their lips. âMmmm,â she said, groaning as Seanâs fingers moved inside of her. âI want you,â she said, pushing his hand away and guiding his dick inside of her.
Sean kissed her again, moving slowly, trying to avoid jostling her stomach. âHow are you feeling?â he asked, lightly running his hand over her stomach while he thrust.
âSick,â she said, taking a breath. âBut keep going.â
He kept moving, his hand resting against her stomach. He could feel it start to churn under his touch, could her Jenâs breathing speed up as she fought the nausea and built toward a climax. âDo you want me to stop?â he asked, as he felt her stomach give a tiny heave. He hoped sheâd say no, and was grateful she shook her head, fighting a gag. âDonât fight it,â he said, giving her stomach a light push as he thrust inside of her again.
She let out a soft burp, then a bigger one, then a gag and a heave as her stomach pushed out a gush of liquid and chunks, hitting Sean square in the chest as he thrust inside of her, feeling her tighten around him with each gag. She rested her head on his shoulder for a moment, catching her breath, as he felt her gag once more, another stream of vomit gushing over his shoulder, down his chest and back, echoing against the tiles of the bathtub.
Just then, he felt his stomach churn again at the sight and sound of her vomit, and didnât even fight it. He simply opened his mouth wide, forced a burp, and threw up a stream of clear vomit and stomach acid, letting it flow over Jenâs chest. He thrust again, and they both gagged simultaneouslyâSean throwing up a stream of yellowish bile, and Jen bringing up a smaller mouthful of stomach acid and the last little bit of stomach contentsâjust as Sean came.
Jen reached for the shower head, then, bringing it closer to her and drinking the water, quickly. She kept drinking until she moaned, guiding Seanâs hand back to her clit. He worked her with one hand, pushing on her stomach with the other, and felt her start to heave, clenching around his fingers. âOh god,â she choked out, before burping, then gagging, sending a gush of watery vomit all over his chest. She gagged once again, bringing up another gush, just as she came. Before sheâd even caught her breath, she burped, twice, and brought up the last of it, including some yellow bile at the end.
this is the anon who had the upset, rumbly belly who held it in at work... oh my god, my tummy was SO ill that night. i had the most awful tummy upset.
only a few minutes after i sent the ask, i had some chills and felt super sweaty and clammy, and felt the butterflies in my tummy crawl up my throat. i RAN to the toilet but only kind of made it, and projectile vommed a huge brown torrent into the bowl/onto the floor/on myself. wave after wave just kept coming up, everything i'd eaten recently just gushed out of me so violently in waves. the sound of my vomit splattering against the bowl would set me off again and again. i could barely breathe and my stomach contracted and sloshed around so badly. at one point i just went in the shower and threw up all over myself there because i already felt so disgusting. i felt SO sick in my tummy.
i think i probably spent about an hour in the bathroom, and then felt better enough to get cleaned up and go to bed. i slept probably for an hour or so until i woke up and had to be violently sick into a bucket...this (sleeping then vomiting into the bucket) happened probably about 4 times during the night, i filled up the whole bucket. i had a couple more voms the next day â i made it to the toilet for one, and the other came on so quickly (after i tried eating some toast) that i threw up the undigested toast straight onto the floor â but am mostly feeling better now. i have no idea what caused it :(
I'm not that into just emeto situations, but putting this up for those that are
you're lying in bed, your gf fast asleep on top of you. you can feel her bloated stomach's movements against yours. you both kinda overindulged at the lunch buffet earlier in the day, and then you had a dinner at a fancy restaurant because you couldn't cancel the table reservation on such short notice and didn't want to waste it, and she was complaining about still feeling uncomfortably full when you went to bed but you felt fine and you thought she was exaggerating because she knows you find it cute.
now however as you listen to (and feel) her stomach gurgling, you realise she was probably not exaggerating at all. she's still asleep and you don't wanna wake her, but as her breathing becomes more rapid and shallow, you wonder if you should, just in case.
"babe?" you say softly, nudging her gently. she moans, and a trickle of drool drips from her lips as she does so. alright, you think, so this is happening... "babe, wake up..."
her eyes flutter open and you can see the sleepy confusion turn into dismay into panic into resignation... "mmmgonna puke," she mumbles.
"alright," you reply, trying to think. "it's alright, babe." you move as swiftly as you can, while trying not to jostle her too much and hasten the inevitable. you help her sit up (and wince in sympathy as you see how bloated her stomach really is) and look around for a solution.
your gf lets out a miserable groan accentuated by a wet burp, and her body slumps forward. there's no way she's making it into the bathroom. "gonna... *urrp* puke..." she repeats, as if you didn't realise that already.
you finally spot the trash bin and lunge for it, and place it in her lap. you sit next to her and put your arm around her. "it's alright, babe," you say again, trying to offer some reassurance.
still, it takes several minutes for anything to happen beyond the increasingly sickly burps that erupt from her lips. she's so nauseous she's shaking in your arms, clutching the trash bin with both hands, and you want to help her find release so you rub her bloated belly, applying gentle pressure that makes her whimper out loud...
and then finally, a burp turns into a gag midway through. her entire body clenches with the force of the heave that follows, bringing up a disappointingly small trickle of vomit. she gasps and moans, and you continue to push a little harder... and her body responds with another heave, this time bringing up a more substantial amount splashing into the bin. and then it seems like she can't stop, so you just hold her and murmur soothing words you're not sure she can hear.

She was starving, Bella thought as she impatiently tapped her foot, waiting for the elevator to reach her floor. It had been a very long day and then some kid had somehow installed a children's cartoon as the university background, in all computers, which of course had caused a huge ruckus and all of the IT people had been held up after hours to fix it.
She should've been home two hours ago, but nooo... Her belly growled, loudly, and Bella placed a hand over it, pressing on it to shut it up, cheeks burning as the old woman next to her politely pretended not to hear.
Lucas got home much sooner than her, so it was to her absolute dismay that she opened the door to find him hunched over his university books, nose buried in one, and no smell of food in the air.
He raised his head when the door shut and then glanced at his watch, "Bell? What the hell, it's almost 10..."
"Ugh, I know, some kid caused a minor crisis," Bella dumped her school bag near the door, kicking off her combat boots, "I'm starving."
"Ah..." Lucas cringed, "I was waiting for you to order in, so I didn't-"
"Uuuh," she whined loudly, but she wasn't exactly pissed at him. It was sweet he had waited for her and she should've texted, but in all of the mess, it had completely slipped her mind, "pizza always takes a million years to arrive..."
Bella walked straight to the kitchen, knowing he'd follow and too hungry to properly greet him. She opened the fridge in search of leftovers, "I'll just eat whatever's in the fridge."
"We've got nothing in the fridge, we were supposed to grocery shop tomorrow, remember?" Lucas' voice came from right behind her, as she expected and Bella ignored him, pushing away the bottles of sauce and the many many bottles gatorade. Really, who bought Gatorade in bulk? Lucas did.
"Aha!" she straightened up, opening a red plastic container and revealing the mini chimichangas her mother had sent her, "there's nothing you can eat, gringo," she teased him lightly, getting on her tip toes to press a kiss over his lips and then moving for the sink.
Lucas barely reciprocated the kiss, frowning at her container, "Bells, didn't Marisa send this like... Weeks ago?"
"Did she?" Bella dumped the lid inside the sink and then sniffed the snack, "smells fine to me."
"...I don't think this is smart, Bella..."
"You," she pointed at him, putting the plastic container inside the microwave, "worry too much."
"I worry enough," Lucas rolled his eyes, "well, I guess I'll order pizza just for me then."
"Sorry," Bella had the decency of blushing for not waiting alongside him, but he shrugged.
"I really think you should wait for the pizza, babe," then moved back into the living room to find his phone. He didn't come back, so Bella figured he had gotten sucked in by his essay once again.
She waited impatiently as the container stopped spinning inside the microwave, serving herself a glass of Gatorade and then moving back into the living room with her now warm food. Just as she guessed, Luke was once again squinting at the page.
"I think you need glasses," she said, taking a bite of a chimichanga and then huffing as it burned her tongue. She chugged on the cold drink, pushing it all down, but didn't wait another second to take yet another bite.
"Uhm, no," Lucas scoffed, turning the page of his book, "I'm just tired," he rubbed his neck, straightening up on the chair.
"Denial is a river in Egypt," she grinned, kissing his temple and moving away from the dining area and into the living room, sitting down on the couch. Seeing as Luke wasn't paying her any mind, she tunned in her show and started to eat while watching it.
A whole episode later, her tupperware was almost empty and Luke's pizza arrived, so he finally shut the books to come join her. Bella eyed the last chimichanga wearily, debating if she should eat it. She hadn't eaten that much, only four mini ones, but still she felt full already. Probably a result of eating too fast.
"Do you want my last chimichanga?" she asked as Lucas sat down next to her on the couch with a satisfied groan.
He wrinkled his nose, "hell no," then bit on his pizza. She sighed, picking it up and trying to take a bite, but a wave of repulsion ran through her. Bella sighed.
"I guess it's garbage for you, buddy."
Her boyfriend let out an amused snort at her pitying comment and she got up to throw it out in the kitchen. Bella opened her jeans, suddenly feeling squeezed into it.
"I'm gonna take a shower and change, brb," she shouted, poking her head out of the kitchen and then heading for their suite.
By the time she made it back to the living room, twenty minutes later, Bella was feeling dead on her feet. She collapsed on the couch, resting her head on Lucas's arm and glancing at his pizza. Only two slices were gone.
"Are you feeling alright?" Bell yawned, wrapping an arm around his middle so she could use him as a pillow. He hummed, licking on his fingers.
"Yeah, cutting down on carbs since season is ending," he explained and Bella nodded in understanding, even though she thought putting Lucas on a diet was unneeded.
"How was your day?" she asked sleepily and smiled as he promptly launched on a rant about his evening lecture, a rant he probably had been waiting all evening to speak.
She chuckled here and there as he got clearly passionate over the issue, but slowly Bella lost focus on what was being said and fully sank against him.
Lucas must've carried her to bed, because she woke up snuggled against him, hours later. Their room was fully dark, not even the TV was on, and she wondered what had woken her up, all warm and cozy...
Too warm. Her belly gurgled unhappily and she immediately knew. Slowly she pulled away from Lucas, sitting against the headboard and placing a hand on her stomach. It was bloated and sore, a whine answering her soft touch.
Her upper belly felt overly full, as if nothing had digested at all, but she knew it had to be a lie, by how her intestines were cramping. Sweat started to collect over her brow and then a sharp cramp ran through her, painful enough to have her gasping and curling around her belly.
Next to her on the bed, Lucas stirred and turned so he was facing her, still oblivious and asleep. Bella cringed, she was not in the mood to receive Lucas' I-told-you-so. Worse of all, she didn't want to be on the receiving end of his overly concerned glare, he always made such a fuss about health...
She crawled out of the bed, but instead of heading for their suite's bathroom, she tiptoed out of the room and for the guest room's bathroom.
"I'm so smart," she said sarcastically to herself, shutting the bathroom door and sitting down on the toilet, hugging her sick belly. Her intestines cramped fiercely for a couple more minutes, before a loud gurgle all but doubled her queasiness and then they emptied out quickly.
She was shaky and nauseous as she cleaned herself up, fifteen minutes later, forced to brace against the sink as she attempted to wash the cold clammy sweat from her face. Her hands were shaking and when Bella bent down, a sour burp sneaked past her lips. She groaned, swashing cold water in her mouth and spitting it out, hoping to get rid of the acidic taste that was pushing her closer and closer to puking.
Seeing as it wasn't going to happen at right that moment, she slowly made her way out of the bathroom and back to the kitchen, retrieving one of the many Gatorade bottles - sweet irony - and a mixing bowl, just in case.
Bella curled up on the couch once more, a shiver running down her spine and unscrewed the bottle, bringing it to her lips. However, the sweet scent only made her gag and she didn't have the nerve to drink it.
She settled the bottle back down and wrapped an arm around her angry belly, rubbing wide circles on it. Curse her impatience and stubbornness. Another wet burp rolled up and Bella groaned, eyeing the mixing bowl still on the coffee table. She really didn't want to puke...
Her mouth filled up with salty saliva and she gagged suddenly, scrambling to get the bowl, but despite the fact a nasty burp rolled out of her all, she got up was some orange collared spit. Her throat hurt and her belly was pulsing, gurgling non stop.
"puta chimichanga," she mumbled darkly, coughing to get rid of the taste. Just then Bella heard the soft noise of the bedroom door opening and then Lucas appeared in the hallway, rubbing his eye in a sleepily manner.
"What are you doing in the liv- Aw, Bell..."
"I'm fine."
"I can tell," he snorted, ignoring her scathing glare and stepping closer, "why are you in the living room?"
She didn't have it in her to answer, only whined, curling up forward and Lucas sighed, cupping her forehead.
"Have you thrown up already?"
"No-Oourpe-" she burped mid word and cringed, "I'm so queasy though..."
He breathed in through his nose, raising an eyebrow and Bella glared at him, holding a fist to her mouth as she scoffed, "just say it already, I know you want to."
Lucas snorted, "I told you not to eat those things, Bella."
She huffed, unimpressed and swallowed in another gag, "happy now?"
The little smug smile that was tugging the corner of his lip fell, "I'm not happy you're sick, Bell, c'mon..." Lucas sighed, circling the couch so he could sit behind her and pull her hair up and away from her mouth. It was long enough that he could twist it around itself, no tie necessary.
Bella slumped against him, hugging her stomach, "it hurts, Luke..." she whined, dignity and embarrassment forgotten.
"Will rubbing it help?" He asked, but she shook her head, sitting up straight in order to spit more salty saliva in the bowl.
"Don't touch it, you're just gonna make me puke."
"Okay..." he settled for rubbing her back, cringing at the wet burps rolling off his girlfriend and the gurgles emitting from her belly. She gagged again, bracing against the bowl, but it wouldn't come up, nausea keeping her mouth open regardless.
Lucas reached to grab the gatorade bottle abandoned on the floor, just as he caught sight of Bella shoving two fingers in her mouth. He grabbed her hand, "babe, no, don't do-"
"No, I have to throw up, my belly hurts," she whined, pushing his hand around her wrist away and going for it again. He cringed even more and a second later Lucas heard as she gagged around her hand, barely pulling it away fast enough to vomit into the bowl.
It was red and chunky, smelling strongly of tomato sauce. Lucas couldn't help but gag lightly, looking at a spot over the couch and making sure the bowl was secure in her lap.
"Just let it up, Bells..." he mumbled, as he felt her heave and choke, trying to swallow back down.
"It burns," she whined and he grimaced. He was well aware of how horrible it was to throw up spicy food.
"I know, I'm sorry..." he rubbed at her arm, which was covered in goosebumps. Bella groaned again, then heaved one more time and he had to rush and hold at her forehead, as her whole body shuddered with it. More puke rushed out of her mouth and it went on for a long minute, causing her to pant and cough for air.
"Jesus, Bella..." worry started to eat at Lucas. He was very aware this was just food poisoning, caused by her own hand, but still... "are you done?"
"Not sure," she spluttered, struggling to breathe, "hurts."
"Okay, uhm- I'm gonna empty this..." he said uncertain if it was wise to move, but she didn't complain, so he took it as a hint to get moving, "I'll be right back."
Once he returned to the couch, now with a clean bowl and a blanket, he noted how severely Bella was shaking. She lifted up her blue eyes, a pitiful grimace on her face.
"I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing to me?" Lucas scoffed, draping the blanket over her, "you're the one sick."
"...'cause I'm stupid," Bella groaned, making grabby hands for him and he circled the couch, sitting down so she could rest her head on his lap, "so stupid."
"Don't call my girlfriend stupid," Lucas scoffed, stroking her hair, "she's a dummy at best."
It caused her to chuckle, before a cramp hit her again and Bella rolled onto her side on the couch, muffling a wet burp against his thigh. Lucas' hand hovered, ready to grab the bowl.
"Bella?"
She didn't answer him, struggling to swallow the nausea back down. Lucas heard as her belly let out a nasty wet gurgle and he rushed to grab the bowl, just as Bella let out a queasy, "Oh god-" and lurched forward.
She was so harsh that her hair fell out of its knot and Lucas had to quickly switch the bowl from one hand to the other in order to stop her auburn curls from getting coated with vomit. It was a much lesser amount and more liquid this time, but once she finished bringing it up, Bella didn't straighten back up, instead continued to heave emptily.
"Babe," he planted the bowl on the coffee table, "Bells, you're empty, breathe-"
She nodded, breathing in and then being interrupted by another gag. Lucas' hand went for the bowl, but all that came up was a wet burp. Bella sniffled, tears had ran down her face and her nose was red.
He cupped her face, wiping the tears away with his thumb and the drool that still clung to her lips with the back of his sleeve. Bella grimaced.
"You have to start being more normal about puke," she mumbled hoarsely, leaning against him, "I think I'm done-" a wet burp cut her off, "for now."
"...I'm going to get you a hot water bottle, can you drink some gatorade for me?"
"No promises it's staying down," Bella groaned, but took the bottle he passed to her. Her hands were shaking, badly and Lucas frowned.
"Please try to keep it down, baby," he said, voice thick with concern as he once more went to empty the bowl and bring her the hot water bottle.
She was curled up in a ball when he came back, hugging her stomach and Lucas' heart squeezed in her behalf, a tinge of annoyance flaring up as he thought she wouldn't be in such pain if she wasn't so stubborn.
"Bell, open up, let me-" he slowly peeled her arms away from her gurgly belly and placed the hot water bottle against her skin. Her pained frown cleared up minimally.
"It's so crampy," she whined as he sat back down and pulled her to lie across his lap. Lucas sighed, rubbing her back up and down, applying more pressure. It dislodged another burp and it seemed to calm her down for the moment.
"I'm never eating again."
"Maybe just don't eat week's old food," he yawned, causing her to let out a huff and squeeze him a little tighter.
"Be nice to me, I'm dying."
"Uhm," he couldn't help but pull her up, so she wasn't as much resting her head on his lap, but his stomach. Lucas slid down on the couch, legs stretched ahead of him, "I'm not ready to be a widower, so don't die... Try to sleep."
"I'm still really queasy," she sounded uncertain, even if exhausted, "I don't wanna vomit on you..."
He rolled his eyes, stroking her cheek, "I don't mind, just try and take a nap, baby."
"Remember you said this," she mumbled, before hiding her face against his stomach. He smiled, tipping his head back, letting his eyes close again.
I think I ate too much yesterday. My belly was so so full for hours after dinner! ButâŚ.. I had so much fun thinking how much my belly hurt, I had a stomach ache, I felt queasy⌠I touched myself over and over because I couldnât get enough. Ooooh, my belly hurt. 10/10 will be doing again.
"You cannot be serious," Vince groaned, his cheeks puffed out with food and voice muffled because he was holding a hand in front of his mouth in an endearing attempt to be less rude.
Bella draped herself behind Lucas, who was sitting on the couch, so she could plant her chin to his shoulder and wrap her arms around over his chest. To his credit, despite being essentially trapped, Luke didn't pull away, but leaned back into her arms, shaking his head, "but'am," he mumbled, while eating, gesturing with his fork, "he's a horrid quarterback."
Bella had been zoning them out for the majority of the past hour, after finishing her dinner. She had taken one look at the chicken drumsticks and wrinkled her nose, opting for having dessert for dinner instead. Luke ate quicker than Vin, who took his sweet time savoring it, and they had steadily cleared off a bucket by now.
Luke tugged on her wrist, turning his face and rubbing his nose against her arm draped over his shoulder, "come sit with us, Bell."
"Nah, I'm good here," she pressed a kiss to his temple, using the couch's back as support to her torso and smiling as she saw Vin watching them, "you guys wanna watch something?"
Having Vince around sometimes made her feel like she was back in college. It pushed her dynamic with Luke towards more family-friendly than they were used to being, but Bell didn't mind it, she actually really liked enjoying her husband as her best friend, as well as, well... Husband. Plus Vin, of course.
"Uhm, sure," Vince shrugged, "you guys know you don't have to babysit me, right?"
"Fuck off, Vin," Bella rolled her eyes, circling the couch so she could plop herself on Lucas' lap, but first giving Vin's curls a sharp tug and glaring at him, "quit the self pity party and pick something for us to watch."
Luke huffed out a laughter when Bella collapsed onto his thighs with a satisfied groan, wrapping her arms around his neck so she had better support. He spread out his legs, planted his feet on the coffee table and slid down on the couch, causing Bell to jostle on top of him.
Vince picked Emma, which Bella hadn't ever watched and Luke apparently had, because he groaned and threw his head back, "not this bitch again."
"She is not that bad," Vin curled up on his side of the couch, shoving his socked feet under Luke's thigh and smiling at the screen where a blonde woman who looked like a doll and had the tightest curls Bella had ever seen walked to a greenhouse midst dawn.
"Is it a musical?" She groaned, linking her legs with Vin's, since she was sitting sideways like he was.
"No, it's about this meddlesome idiot who ruins everybody's lives," Luke leaned his chin on her shoulder, "and she gets the guy at the end."
"She kinda ruins her life too and then learns a lesson, it's not like Lucas is painting it, "it's cute."
"When did you watch it?" Bella poked Luke's stomach and he rushed a hand up, muffling a burp on the back of it. She wrinkled her nose at the smell, "eeeww Atwood, not straight on my face!"
"You are lying on my stomach, Isabella!" He cried out, then continued on, unbothered, "we watched it together during college, at the theaters."
Bella rolled her eyes at him, shifting around to get more comfortable and getting sucked in by the movie. She was mesmerized. It was pretty, first off. The outfits were to die for and while regency romances, or romances in general, were not her vibe, Bell couldn't look away.
"Is this... From the Pride and Prejudice lady?" She asked, a good handful of minutes later. Luke was drawing little invisible patterns on her back and Vin had gotten up to turn off the living room lights, only the flatscreen illuminating them.
"Jane Austen, yeah," Luke answered, then patted her thigh, "baby, get off me-"
Bella fell onto the couch with a whine, but she wasn't really paying attention, sinking against the throw pillows as she watched Emma make a fool of herself during a piano showing.
"What does he see in her?"
"She's loving, in her heart, she means well," Vin answered, while Luke got up and started to circle the couch, "where are you going...?"
"Reflux," Lucas' voice was muffled and finally Bella took her eyes away from the screen, as she watched Luke walk to the kitchen, where they kept their medicine bottles. He left the kitchen light on as he returned, a couple minutes later, chewing tums and bringing a can of ginger ale, "the chicken clearly has a vendetta against me."
"C'mere," Bell gestured for him to sit back down, "let me rub your stomach..." from the corner of her eye she saw Vin's cheeks turn pink, but she shrugged it off. If he was uncomfortable with them being touchy, he didn't say it and Bell wasn't feeling like prying when Luke was looking clammy and pale.
He collapsed on the couch, leaning his head back with a groan and muffling a burp in his fist, "ew..." it was frothy and gross and Bella wrinkled her nose in distaste, while planting a hand on Lucas' belly.
She hadn't realized earlier, but not only was he bloated, but his stomach was warm to the touch, even through his shirt, and it let out a watery, disgusting noise as she pressed her fingers in, "ah, Lu, that seems nasty..."
"It's fine," his voice was all distorted as he muffled another burp in his hand, "just gotta wait for the tums to kick in... You don't need to pause, Vin."
"Nah, it's fine, I'm-" he grimaced, glaring at the now paused screen, "I think I'm gonna head to bed."
Luke let out a little wounded noise, "what, just because I got up?"
"No," Vin rolled his eyes, getting up, "I think I ate too much, I wanna lie down," he moved forward to plant a kiss on top of Bell's curls and she tilted her head back to look at him, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. He seemed a little pale.
"I will, it's gonna pass in a minute..." Lucas gulped down air, forcing up a thick belch in his fist, "goodnight, Vin."
Bella sighed, moving on the couch so she was by Luke's side and he could rest his head on her shoulder, "you think he's ok?"
"No," Luke groaned, wincing, "probably has indigestion too, the chicken- Urgh, the chicken..." He trailed off, muffling a burp against the fabric of her shirt and gulping down, convulsively, "hates me."
"You think it was off?" Bell frowned, running her fingers through Luke's hair, noticing how sweaty he was getting. It still seemed just reflux, but she had the feeling it was more than that.
"God, I hope not," he gagged at the thought, face scrunching up with disgust, "you wanna keep watching the movie?"
"No, I'll catch up tomorrow. Let's go lie down..." She eyed him skeptically as Luke got up with an arm wrapped around his stomach as if he had been stabbed, "should I grab a bucket?"
"No," he winced, hissing under his breath, "I'm not really queasy, it's mostly cramping like hell."
"Oh," Bella cringed at the idea, "I'm sorry... C'mon up, I'll get you my hot water bottle. It will help."
They made the slow track back to their bedroom and on the way there, Bella stole a quick glance towards the guest room. The bedroom door was shut, not a light leaking from under it and she chewed her lip with concern. Had Vince really gone straight to bed?
Luke faceplanted the pillows, groaning loudly and curling up his legs.
"I know, baby, I'm sorry," Bella cooed, moving around the bedroom to grab the hot water bottle and sitting on the edge of the mattress, sliding it under his shirt, "can I get you anything else?"
His face was pink and Bell's stomach squeezed with worry. She combed her fingers through his hair, lowering them down, lightly touching his cheeks â prickly, since he shaved in the morning â and to his neck, pressing them to his pulse.
"What- what are you doing...?"
"Just checking if you're breathing fine," she replied, leaning in so she could feel his breathing against her fingertips and make sure there was no wheezing. Luke raised his head from the pillow, seeming puzzled.
"What? Why?"
She let out a scoff, flicking a strand of hair away from his eyes, "take a guess."
Luke took a second too long to understand, then rolled his eyes, exasperation clear as he huffed and collapsed back down, "it's not an allergic reaction, Bell."
"I'd rather check," Bella ignored him, leaning forward so she could plant her chin to his bicep and rub a hand down his arm, "I can make you some peppermint tea, what do you think?"
Instead of answering, Lucas shuddered and let out a groan, voice muffled since his face was half hidden by her folding over him, "no... Just leave me here to die."
She snorted, hiding a smile against his shirt, "so dramatic," she whispered. They stayed in that half squished croissant position for a handful of minutes, until Luke stirred with a moan, rolling flat onto his back and pressing the plastic water bottle to his stomach.
"Fuck, it hurts."
"Probably just gas," Bella shrugged, sitting up straight and starting to press around his stomach in a gentle manner. He was so sweaty, it was unnerving her. A gurgle ran right under her fingertips as she pressed under his belly button and Lucas hissed, reaching blindly behind him to grab the headboard and pull himself sitting up.
"Wait, wait, wait, stop," he pushed her hand away from his stomach, then stared ahead as if waiting to see what his body was trying to communicate. Bella held her breath in anticipation, regretting not bringing the bucket-
"Ah, shit," Luke groaned, shoving himself up. He swayed, but kept moving towards the bathroom. She was up and following him immediately, only for her husband to slam the door shut on her face.
Ah.
Bella jumped back at the disgusting cacophony of noises that followed, tapping against the door, "I'm gonna-" give you some privacy, "gonna check on Vin, okay? Yell if you need me."
"Goooooo awaaaaayyy"
The ginger snorted, rolling her eyes and walking out of their room, towards the guest suite.
Bella had a nasty habit of not knocking, so she only thought of doing it when the door was already half open. She shut her eyes, squealing, "sorry!" just in case Vin was in some state of undress, but there was no answer. She opened an eye and then let out a sigh, the room was empty, blankets messed up, but abandoned.
"Vin?" Bella called out, wondering if maybe he had gone down to the kitchen or back to the living room to finish the movie... There was light coming from under the bathroom door. She let out a sigh, walking closer and knocking, "Vin? Are you okay?"
A groan answered her and she paused, weighing her options. She could just go in, but there was a risk of catching Vince naked...
"Can I come in?"
Another groan.
She let out a frustrated sigh and opened the door.
Their guest suite wasn't large, but it wasn't as cramped as the downstairs half bathroom either. Vin still made everything look like it was doll sized in comparison to him.
He was sitting on the ground, wearing loose black boxers and a grey t-shirt that was a size too big, an arm draped over the toilet, curled so he could prop his forehead against his palm, eyes shut as he breathed carefully through his mouth. He was drenched in sweat.
"Jesus, Vin..." Bella moved closer, crouching down, "I'm gonna guess the chicken was bad, uh?"
At the mention of the chicken, he jerked with a gag and fell to the side, just in time to hang his mouth over the bowl and cough up a thin dribble of vomit. Bella cringed, grabbing his shoulder with one hand, the other one gathering his curls before they got in the way.
Vince let out a whimper when the next retch was empty and he was left dry heaving over the toilet bowl, hunched forward so much Bella had to tug on his curls to keep him from drowning.
"You're done, Vin, you're done," she sighed, dropping the hair and rubbing his back, "take a deep breath, dude."
To his credit, he really did try. It turned into a wet belch halfway through and Vince lurched forward once more, making Bella scramble to keep the hair out of the way.
A meager mouthful of dinner fell in the water and he pulled back, face strained, patches of blotchy pink on his pale face, sweat running down his temple, "feel... Fucking awful."
"Yeah, no shit," Bella reached over him, to flush the toilet, "have you been sick already?"
"Nuh-huh," he shook his head, "won't come up..."
"God, that sucks," Bella grimaced in sympathy, "I'm gonna get you some water. Don't fall and split your head, okay?"
"Mmm'kay," Vin nodded, leaning over the bowl to drool once more.
She hurried out of the room and downstairs, quickly correcting courses on how to handle it. Bella grabbed two buckets from the laundry room, then used them as containers to put the gatorade bottles â thank god that Luke stockpiled them â, as well as two different rags, a bunch of different medications and a thermometer, just in case.
Vince was back onto his knees, instead of flat on his ass, and he had both elbows planted on the seat, palms supporting his head as he gagged mercilessly, but was able to bring nothing other than colored saliva.
"God, Vin," Bella crouched down next to him, rubbing his back. His shirt was glued to his back, "better out than in, get it up," she patted his on the back softly and managed to push up a wet, disgusting burp. Vince groaned, panting as if he had run a marathon, and then his next little frothy burp tailed into a productive heave and a mouthful of chunky dinner fell into the water with a nauseating plop!
Bella cringed, turning her head and gagging out of revulsion, but she kept her hand firmly pressed to his back, "that's... Good," she swallowed the excess saliva, "you're doing great..."
Vin let out a little chuckle, "don't make me laugh, my stomach-URurop-hurts..." he belched mid sentence and Bella snorted, patting his back with a little more force.
"Sorry..."
She heard a loud, violent heave and then the startling noise of a lot more liquid colliding with liquid, "Oh there you go!" Bella cooed, turning around and then cringing at the gruesome sight.
There was a beige sludge filling the bowl, having splashed onto Vin's forearms since he was still holding himself up by the elbows. His face was pinched with pain. She reached forward, pressing the flush and grabbing several squares of toilet paper to wipe his arm, "aw, Vin..."
He gulped down, "not'done," his words stuck together, as if he had glue in his mouth and he seized with a gag, so violent she could see his stomach flexing even under the oversized t-shirt. More vomit fell into the now clear water and Vin was left panting, nearly hyperventilating.
Bell waited for a minute to see if more was gonna come up, but despite his convulsive swallowing, his stomach seemed to be done for now, so she flushed again and squeezed his sweat soaked nape, "done?"
"For now..." His voice was all hoarse, "don't feel well, Bell..."
"I know, buddy," she pressed her lips in a small sympathetic smile and passed him more toilet paper so he could wipe his lips, chin and blow his nose. Vince retched as he did it, the movement alone upsetting his belly, but nothing came up and he was simply left clutching the ball of paper and waiting.
"Come on, let's get you lying down," Bella patted his arm, "come on."
Vin nodded, but didn't move. Instead, it took her grabbing him by the elbow and starting to pull him up for him to pull away from the toilet and get up. He swayed on the spot and braced against the mirror above the sink, leaving a sweaty handprint on it, "wait..."
"Dizzy?"
"Just a little," he gulped down and then let out a airy, large belch and groaned, "sorry..."
"You know I don't give a crap about that," Bella rolled her eyes, planting a hand firmly on his back and bunching up the shirt in her fist as if she could, somehow, stop him from face planting in the odd chance he fell.
"Still..." He whined, "rude..."
Bella let out an impatient huff, but didn't say anything and after a minute Vin nodded and let her guide him back to the room, where he fell onto the mattress with a pained groan.
"Okay," Bell plucked the gatorade bottle from the bucket, planting it on his bedside table, and putting the now empty bin next to him, "bucket's here, gatorade to your left," she smoothed his curls back, worried gaze searching his face, "you're gonna be okay while I check on Luke?"
Immediately his eyes sprang open, alarm making them way more alert than they had been, "Luke's sick too?"
"Yeah," She sighed, "uhm- other end tho..."
Vince's face scrunched up and he folded an arm protectively around his stomach, "god, I hope not..."
"Yeah, let's hope you guys don't switch symptoms," Bella nodded, then broke the seal of the electrolyte bottle, "but drink a little bit for me? Small sips, please."
"No way," Vin shook his head, eyeing the bottle with disgust, "it's gonna come right back up."
"Take very small sips," Bella glared at him, "but you have to drink a little bit, otherwise you'll end up sicker."
"I'm fine," he scoffed, closing his eyes in a clear tell he was done with this conversation. Bella felt a wave of fraternal annoyance and considered just grabbing him by the chin and forcing him to drink, before she gave up the thought and let out a dejected sigh.
"Well, try to. I'm gonna go check on Luke and then I'll be back for you."
"I'm fine," Vince repeated, much to her annoyance, "don't need a babysitter, Bell."
"Yeah, yeah," she waved him off, gesturing to the bucket, "bucket. Use it, if you gotta- I'll be right back."
She didn't wait for a response, picking up the remaining items and moving to the master suite. The bathroom door was still shut, so Bella took a deep breath and knocked on it, "Lucas? Are you alive in there?"
A grunt answered her and Bella let out a frustrated scoff, "Lucas, I'm going in, okay?"
"No, Bell-"
"I don't care," she rolled her eyes, turning the knob and holding her breath as she opened the door. He was exactly as she had left him, at the very least, although a whole lot more sweaty, sitting on the toilet with both arms wrapped around his stomach, pale as paper.
"See?" He groaned, staring ahead with his cheeks heating up, "give me... Give me a minute, I'll be right out."
Bella squinted at him, not quite believing, but she nodded, not wanting to humiliate him further and yeah, it was disgusting, "Okay... I'm going to wait outside..."
She took a step back, shutting the door again and heard some annoyed huffing, followed by moving around. A minute later Luke stumbled out, bracing against the doorway and planting his forehead to the wood, thumping it softly, "I don't feel good, Bell..."
"Yeah, the chicken was off," she took a step closer, pointedly ignoring the smell and wrapping an arm around his waist to pull him to bed, "Vin's puking up his guts."
"Wha-" Luke interrupted himself with a little burp and fell sitting down on the bed, "Vin's sick?"
"Yep," Bella smoothed the sweaty hair away from his face, opening another bottle and pressing it to his hand, "drink up, hydrate."
Luke glared at it in a wary way, "I don't know..."
"You're having diarrhea, that kills people, drink."
"The runs aren't gonna kill me, Isabella," Luke scoffed, cheeks turning red, but he did take a large gulp under her commanding gaze. Bella opened a triumphant smile.
"See? Wasn't that bad, yeah?" She leaned in to press a kiss to his temple and her brows furrowed as she heard a nasty growl coming from his stomach, as the drink went right through Luke. He whimpered, hiding his face on her chest.
"Fuuuck..." His hand clutched his bloated belly, "it's fucking killing- Ah, shit, shit, shit, Bell, MOVE-" he pushed her back by the arm, jumping up and nearly falling as he ran right back to the bathroom.
In his haste, Luke had left the bathroom door open and Bella grimaced at the noises that followed, tiptoeing closer to shut it and give him some semblance of privacy, "I'm gonna go check on Vi-"
Before the words were fully out of her mouth, she realized this time it was different. Luke had a hand firmly pressed to his mouth and was seizing with aborted gags, eyes squeezed shut as he fought the nausea.
"Oh shit, wait, Luke-" Bella rushed back to the room to grab the bucket â dumping the medicine on the bed â then ran back to the bathroom, but she was too late, because right as she skipped to shove the bucket under his chin, Luke lost the battle and gross, chunky mess splashed down his shirt and collected in the boxers pooled at his ankles.
He whimpered, a hand darting out to grab the bucket out of her limp grip and brought up an even bigger stream of vomit inside of it, barely having to retch this time around.
'"Fuck, okay," Bella breathed out through her mouth, trying to ground herself, starting to feel overwhelmed. She blinked quickly, "okay..." then planted a hand on his forehead to help with the aim, the other one going to the bin's edge in order to keep it put in case he lost his grip.
Lucas, unlike Vin who suffered and took forever, seemed to be a fucking fountain of puke. His retched were violent and loud and Bella was biting down her lip worriedly, because it just kept coming. He whimpered, she heard another gurgle coming from his belly and more ejecting into the bowl under him. Bella closed her eyes, in a feeble attempt to block out the sound.
Revulsion and concern were making her pulse race, "shhh, get it out of your system, mi vida..."
Luke coughed, hunching forward a little more and Bella let out a squeal as the bucket got even heavier as he projectile vomited inside of it, bits and pieces splashing onto her knuckles and causing Bella to have to bite down a groan. Ew ew ew ew ew.
Then he just hung there, as if he was a doll whose batteries ran out. Bella gulped down, "baby? Are you done...?"
"Think..." He opened his mouth and another thin dribble of puke fell into the mess, "I think so..."
"Okay," Bella squared her shoulders and kept her gaze firmly above Luke's head, so the disgust wouldn't show on her face, "stay put, I'm gonna- I'm gonna get you out of this mess..."
"Don't feel... My head's woozy..."
"Whoa, whoa, HEY!" Bella nearly dropped the half filled bucket, planting it on the edge of the sink as she rushed to grab him by the shoulders before he could fall off the toilet, "LUCAS!"
"Uhmm..." He squinted at her, blinking quickly, "wha...?"
Bella slapped his cheeks, forcing some sort of consciousness to his eyes. It worked, he frowned, "why are you slappin' me...?"
"Oh santa maria madre de dio," Bella whispered, relief washing over her, "hey... Don't pass out, okay? Just sit back a little-" she pushed him by the shoulder until Luke could rest against the back of the toilet, "take a breath for me, baby."
"Hm'kay..." He blinked at her slowly, like a cat, "don't feel good... Sticky."
"Sticky," Bella giggled, hysterically, "yeah, you could say that, babe..." she stretched in order to keep a hand on his shoulder and run the other one under the faucet, then wipe at his face with it. The cold water seemed to do the trick and he was standing up a little less limply under her hold, "don't move."
"I'm sorry," Luke whined, as Bella crouched down next to his feet and started to pry the ruined boxers from around the ankles, folding them with a gag of her own.
"Eh, sickness and health, right?" She chucked them inside the trashcan and then pressed the flush several times, before starting to peel his ruined shirt off, "still nauseous?"
"Yeah," Luke's chin quivered and he gulped down audibly, "and I don't think... The other stuff is done either."
"Huh," Bella shuddered, "let's hope it is, you're freaking me out."
Luke let out a little amused huff, agreeing, then folded in so he could plant his elbows to his naked thighs and his head on them, "you said... Vin's sick?"
"Yeah," Bella moved around the bathroom, putting the bucket away so she wouldn't accidentally hitting it, but so it was still close enough she could reach for it if needed, turning on the shower, "okay, uhm, lean onto me..."
"Can you go check on Vin?" Luke asked, instead of obeying, staying firmly in place. Bella frowned.
"I will after I get you washed and back into bed, baby."
"You don't need to help me, I can do it," he argued, weakly, and Bella rolled her eyes with a dramatic groan.
"Lucas Atwood, get the fuck up," she grabbed his bicep, pulling him up with all her force, and while normally he would indulge her by doing what she was urging him to do, this time he didn't even pretend she could move him. Bella stomped, "baby, I know you're embarrassed, but I pinky promise I won't look at your unwashed ass. Alright? Pinky promise you."
His face turned pink again and he squinted at her, "pinky promise?"
"God, you're ridiculous," Bella bit down a smile, hooking her finger with his and then pulling them apart, "there. Okay? Now, up, into the shower-"
This time around he let her help him up and true to her words, Bella kept her eyes ahead and up.
"Fucking disgusting," Lucas whined as he braced under the hot water, movements lethargic as he reached for the soap bar, but he had shoved her hand away as she went for it, "don't you dare."
"There's nothing I wouldn't do for you, you idiot," Bella shook her head, moving away because she might as well make herself useful and emptying the bucket into the toilet and washing, "I'm gonna take the ruined clothes to the laundry room, okay? Don't fall."
"Not gonna," Luke mumbled, forehead pressed to the tiled wall as the water ran down his head and back.
Bella rushed out of the room, but before she could even reach the staircase, she heard another sharp retch, now coming from the guest room. Immediately forgetting the gross clothing balled up in her hands, she moved towards it and found Vin nearly toppling out of the bed as he heaved into the bucket she had left him.
"Aw, Vin," Bella sighed, moving further in and crouching down so she could pick it up off the ground and hold it under his chin, pushing him backwards a little so he wasn't about to fall off the bed. The bucket was still empty, but his face was pink and strained, covered in sweat, "you're doing so great, uh?"
"Astonishing-" Vince spat inside of the bucket, "investigative skills."
"The next Sherlock Holmes, really," Bella snorted, lowering the bucket as she figured he wasn't gonna bring anything up and running her fingers â from the clean hand â through his hair. Hell, she might as well have used the puke sticky one, given how sweaty it was.
"How...How's Luke?" Vin groaned and Bella flicked a curl away from his forehead, moving so she could sit on the edge of his bed and rubbing his chest over the fabric, as she could easily tell he was dying of heartburn, given the little acidic mouthfuls of nothing he had brought up earlier.
"Pretty bad shape," Bell cringed, then her eyes widened as she felt his stomach churn right under her palm, "Vin..?"
He whimpered, curling up and squeezing his hands into fists, breathing through his mouth as if he was having contractions, "fuckin' cramps..."
"Oh no, not that too..." Bella whined, "no point fighting it, Vin, you'll just end up hurting yourself."
"I hate-" he cut himself off, gulping down, "Bell, bucket-"
"Here!" She brought it up to his mouth, but all Vin did was dry heave over it. It went on for so long, Bella patted his arm, "babes, I really don't think you got any-"
Then he coughed and a significant amount of puke fell inside of it. Vin panted as if he was having a panic attack, eyes squeezed shut as he rode out another wave of cramps, "cazzo, it's killing me-"
"C'mon," Bella grabbed his sweat drenched shirt, made a mental note to get him a new one, "let's move this back to the bathroom, Vin. You'll thank me later-"
He nodded, then whimpered again, like a dog left outside, and Bella sighed, lowering the bucket so she could grab him with both hands, "heeeelp me, you're so fucking heavy-"
Vin went up with a groan, leaning heavily against her as they walked back to the bathroom. As they crossed the doorway, he pushed away from her in order to use the sink as support and turned around, "end of the line, Bell. Get out."
"Let me just clear the bucket for you first... Luke already had it both at once, you don't want to-" she rambled on, nervously, as she emptied its contents on the toilet and used the bidet to rinse it off, leaving the now clean bucket on top of the sink, "I'll come back to check on you, okay?"
"You don't have to," Vince steered her to the door, hunched over as if he was an elderly man and cradling his stomach, "I can handle it-"
"I wasn't asking you," Bella glared at him, "don't lock the door."
"Bella, get out."
"Don't lock it!" Just as she said that, Vin gave her back a push and she stumbled out of the bathroom, so he could slam the door shut. She sighed, pressing her back to the wall next to it and groaning. What a mess...
What was she supposed to be doing? Before coming to the guest room?
Bella paused, puzzled, and looked around as if she was searching for clues. The ruined little ball of pukey clothes were next to Vin's bed. Oh yeah.
She rushed out of the room to dispose of them, then ran back the stairs two steps at a time and burst back into the master suite, "Luke?! I'm sorry, I got side tracked with Vin- LUCAS!"
"M'kay, m'kay,m'kay," Luke slurred, collapsed onto the shower ground, with the water still running and falling on top of him. Bella skipped closer, nearly falling as she realized water had splashed out of the wet area, and dropped to her knees next to him.
"What the fuck, Luke?! Why didn't you shout or say anything- Oh shit, did you hit your head?!" Bella rambled, cupping his wet face and trying to get a good look at his pupils, "did you!?"
"Stop yelling at me," Luke groaned, shaking his head out of her hold, "just got dizzy- Had to... Sit down..."
The bathroom was stuffy, the hot water running for too long...
"Oh baby, I'm so sorry," Bella groaned, turning off the water and grabbing her husband's arms and throwing them around her neck as she hugged his waist and tried to pull him sitting up. The wet floor helped him to slide up against the wall, but no further than this, "that's it, I'm- I'm calling Jonah."
"What?" Luke's head lolled and he jerked with a hiccup, tilting to the side so he could cough up a splash of bright yellow onto the tiles, splashing some of the flooded water to push it towards the drain, "gross... I just wanna lie down, Bell..."
"I know, baby, but you're so weak already-"
"It's just been a lot," he yawned and she took a small comfort on the fact he at least sounded coherent and weren't slurring his words, "I can't keep water down..."
"Yeah, exactly the reason I'm calling a doctor," Bella moved up, grabbing a towel and throwing it over his head, starting to vigorously dry his hair, "you and Vin are both sick as dogs. I- I don't know what to do..."
"Just," Luke yawned again, then grimaced as another cramp hit him, paling considerably, "there's no reason to worry Jon... Leo was just sick..."
Ugh.
She hated when he made sense.
Bella scrunched up her nose in distaste, considering rejecting Luke's words entirely and calling their friend anyway... But yeah, Jonah had just handled a sick Leo, the guy needed a break too and she could, technically, handle the two men, right? Just as long as none of them passed out on her or fell in the shower...
"Uhm," she grunted, instead of giving in to Luke's reasoning, pressing a kiss to his brow, "let's go back to bed? Think your legs are working now?"
"Maybe," Luke leaned into her touch, "how's Vin?"
"Your boyfriend is fine," Bella rolled her eyes, grinning as she realized that had to be the most asked question that night, "let's get you lying down and then I think I'll bring him to our room, then at least I can keep an eye on both of you..."
"Vin's gonna hate that," Luke mumbled, sleepily, pressing his cheek to her shoulder, "lemme sleep here, baby..."
Your naked partner has stuffed themselves to the max, and then kept going. Their stomach is hugely distended, swollen to the point of agony. But they keep going. You can hear the heaviness and pain in each swallow as their stomach is completely packed and food is beginning to back up into their throat. You seat yourself so theyâre between your legs as you wrap you arms around their swollen midriff, light touches and strokes only. No pressure at all. You want to see how much they can force in, how far they can go before their body gives up.
They pause for a moment, cake midway to their mouths. You feel the ripple of stomach muscles clenching beneath your palm as they snap their mouth shut and hold back a gag. You lightly stroke their tummy and lean in closer, putting your head into the crook of their neck so you can whisper loving praise and soothing reassurances as they battle to keep the food in them a little longer. Their stomach clenches again and they let out another gag followed by an awfully wet burp. Another hard clench constricts their stomach and they pitch forward, still clamping their mouth closed but unable to control the involuntary movement as their body tries to get into prime puking position. You hear the silenced wretch in their throat, deep and wet. They finally drop the cakes slice and slam their hand against their mouth, but another wretch has undigested food and saliva spilling out between their fingers and onto the floor.
âOkay darling, itâs okay, you did so good. Let it out. Iâm here.â You soothe them as they finally let go, torrents of undigested food projectile from their mouths, splattering the floor as you gently rub circles on their tummy, wanting to soothe the gut wrenching constriction of their severely bloated tummy. It was like rock beneath your palm, completely and utterly solid. No give, not even the slightest squish to it, just completely solid distended stomach against your hand. You feel your arousal come on hard and fast, and know that despite the vomiting and obvious discomfort, your partner is surely as, if not more so, aroused as you.
There is a small break in the vomiting, and you guide your partner to the bathroom, one hand round their waist and on their tummy at all times. By the time they make it in front of the toilet their stomach is already clenching, still so stuffed with food. Your partner whines, leaning over the toilet, one hand supporting them whilst the other finds its way on top of your spare hand. They guide your hand between their legs, their touch eager, clearly desperate for sexual release. You respond with gentle yet firm touches, then lean your hips into them as they lean over the toilet sickly. You grind against them, pushing your crotch against their ass hard. They groan in pleasure but itâs stifled quickly by a wet belch and a sickly trickle of vomit running into the toilet. Your hand on their stomach can feel the torment beneath it. Their stomach is bubbling angrily, muscle spasms constantly threatening to take over and expel the contents.
More sickly burps, small amounts of saliva and minimal puke follow over the next few minutes. You continue to touch your partner and grind against them, pleased by the wetness youâre both creating and feeling. They turn their head and look pleadingly into your eyes.
âHelp me. Help my tummy. Please make me feel better.â They whine seductively.
You lower your pants, and bend your partner so theyâre leaning over the toilet. You insert into them slowly, gentle not to hurt them or their distended belly. Then you slowly grind yourself into them. You use your hand on their stomach to begin massaging harder, pushing into the solid mass of their stomach. They gag hard, small amounts of chunky vomit splattering into the bowl. But you keep going, moving your hips faster and you insert yourself deeper inside them. Then you clench your hand into a fist, and with a slow yet strong motion, push into their sickly swollen tummy. The response in instant. Vomit cascades out of their mouths, splashing forcefully into the bowl time after time. Their wretches bringing up vomit in time with the deep thrusting of your hips and pulsating of your penis. Pushing and kneading, massaging and caressing. You move with each other, basing your movements on the reaction of your partners turmoiled tum. And as the wretches grow less productive, they let out a groan that only comes with climax. The noise is all you need to allow yourself to join them, cum forcefully ejecting itself inside their already aching and full insides. As the pleasure washes through you your knees grow weak and you lower each other to the ground, bathing in the intense relief orgasm has bought you both. You snuggle into them, hands back on their tummy, still solid and severely upset. They are not done, and neither are you. You both enjoy your reprieve and begin readying yourself for round two.
Of course the problem child had to be the pork roast.
Lenaâs parents did Christmas big. There were candles everywhere, a real tree shedding needles on the hardwood, her motherâs âgoodâ tablecloth, and an absurd centerpiece that looked like a florist had lost a bet. The house smelled like cloves, wine, and the star of the show: a garlic-rubbed pork roast that had been ârestingâ on the counter for suspiciously long.
Mara eyed it as Lenaâs dad carved.
âDid that sit out for a while?â she asked, trying to sound casual.
âOh, just a bit,â he said cheerfully. âNeeded to come up to room temp before the oven, then rest afterward. Itâs perfect.â
Lena caught Maraâs eye, a flicker of shared concern passing between them.
âDo I want to know how long âa bitâ is?â Lena asked.
Her dad waved a hand. âYou two doctors worry too much. Itâs fine.â
âIâm a psychiatrist,â Lena muttered under her breath. âI worry about different things.â
But the roast did look good. Juicy. Crisp on the outside. Everyone took some. Mara took a smaller slice. Lena, lulled by nostalgia and her dadâs proud grin, didnât.
⸝
The first sign came right after presents.
Theyâd migrated to the living room, paper everywhere, carols still looping softly from a speaker. Lenaâs little niece was making a Barbie and a dinosaur get married on the hearth. Mara was halfway through a second cup of coffee when she noticed Lena go still beside her.
âYou okay?â Mara murmured.
Lenaâs hand was pressed flat against her upper abdomen, just below the sternum. âMm.â
âMm like âI ate too muchâ or âsearing abdominal dreadâ?â Mara asked.
Lena gave her a tight, humorless smile. âAsk me again in five minutes.â
The answer arrived in three.
A cold, oily wave rolled through Lenaâs gut, the kind that made your spine feel hollow. Suddenly the room felt too hot, the smells too loud. The buttery scent of pastries, the waxy tang of candles, the cloying pineâeverything hit at once.
She swallowed. Her mouth flooded with saliva.
Mara saw the color drain from her face. âBathroom,â she said quietly, already setting her mug down. âNow.â
Lena shook her head once like she could will it awayâthen another, stronger spasm hit, and that was that.
They slipped out of the living room under cover of a story about âgetting more coffee.â The moment they turned down the hallway, Lenaâs shoulders hunched.
âOh no,â she whispered.
âHall bath is closer than upstairs,â Mara said. âYouâre not going to make it if we get fancy.â
They barely got the door shut.
Lena went straight to her knees, hands grabbing the rim of the toilet. The first heave tore out of her with no warning, a violent, wrenching spasm that sent a rush of vomit slamming into the bowl. It was loudâechoing off tile and porcelain, wet and forceful, the unmistakable sound of a stomach emptying in a hurry.
Mara winced in sympathy, already movingâhair back, tap on, toilet paper pulled and ready. âBreathe when you can,â she murmured.
There wasnât much room between heaves for anything but sound.
Lena gagged again, a guttural, miserable noise, and more followedâpale, frothy liquid carrying the distinct smell of rich meat and garlic. It hit the water and splashed up, spots of it flecking the inside of the bowl. Her shoulders shook with each contraction.
âOh God,â Lena rasped between surges. âThat roast isâŚhaving opinions.â
Mara couldnât help it. âStaph aureus is very chatty,â she said. âKeep going. Youâll feel better once your stomach files all its complaints.â
Another heave answered her, more bitter this time. Lenaâs fingers were white on the porcelain. Sweat beaded at her temples. She spat, coughed, and then doubled over again with a harsh dry retch that brought up mostly air and a little stringy bile.
âOkay,â Mara said softly after the next pause stretched longer. âCall that Round One?â
Lena stayed folded for a moment, breathing heavily, then reached blindly for the flush handle. The roar of water filled the room, washing away the evidence if not the memory.
âIâm going to kill my father,â she croaked.
âWeâre going to educate your father about the danger zone for protein,â Mara corrected gently, wetting a washcloth with cool water. She squeezed it out and pressed it to the back of Lenaâs neck. âCan you sit back?â
Lena shifted clumsily, pivoting so her back rested against the side of the tub. Her legs were shaky. She let her head fall back, eyes closed, the washcloth sliding a little down toward her collar.
Mara studied her. Pale. Clammy. No real cramps yet, but that would probably come.
âYou think itâs the roast?â Lena asked, voice thin.
âFast onset, lots of nausea, violently ejecting the main course? Yeah,â Mara said. âStaph loves improperly handled meat. Merry Christmas from microbiology.â
Lena groaned. âThis is not the holiday content I ordered.â
A knock sounded at the door. âEverything okay in there?â her mom called, concern muffled by the wood.
âWeâre fine,â Lena called back, managing a passable chirp. She glanced at Mara, widened her eyes in mute warning: Do not rat out the pork yet.
Mara answered more professionally, âFood might not be agreeing with Lena. Weâve got it. Can you start some ginger ale?â
âOf course, honey,â her mom said. âTell her I love her!â
The footsteps retreated.
Lena leaned her head against Maraâs shoulder with a sigh. âThis is humiliating.â
âYou should see Thanksgiving at my house,â Mara said. âThis is downright restrained.â
Lena snorted, then winced as her stomach rolled again.
It didnât stay restrained for long.
⸝
Within the next hour, the house developed a pattern: someone would go pale at the table, excuse themselves a little too quickly, then the distant, unmistakable sounds of retching would drift through the halls. The downstairs guest bath, the half-bath off the laundry room, the powder room near the front doorâevery toilet was now in active duty.
Text messages bloomed on Lenaâs phone from her brother in the other bathroom:
bro: ugh
bro: why is the pork coming back
bro: tell dad heâs banned from pinterest recipes forever
Lena showed Mara the screen, then had to clamp her lips together as another wave hit.
âOkay,â Mara said, moving fast. âRound Two, letâs go.â
It came just as violentlyâfast, explosive, unloading the rest of what her stomach wanted no part of. Lenaâs whole body shuddered with the force of it. Between heaves, she gasped, âI am neverâeatingâanimal protein again.â
âYes you are,â Mara said. âYou just wonât eat meat that sat on a Midwestern countertop for three hours.â
When Lena finally sagged back, eyes wet, breathing like sheâd run a mile, Mara wiped her mouth gently with a damp corner of the washcloth.
âCan you sip a little water?â she asked. âTiny sips. Just to rinse.â
Lena nodded. Mara passed her a cup theyâd commandeered from the hallway. Lena swished, spit, then took the tiniest swallow.
They traded gallows humor while they waited to see if it stayed down.
âOn the bright side,â Mara said, âyour abs are getting an incredible workout.â
âGreat,â Lena muttered. âIâll die with a six-pack.â
⸝
Mara held out longer.
Sheâd taken only a small piece of the roast and avoided the jus, but staph toxins didnât really care about portion size. It was just a question of time.
Theyâd relocated to Lenaâs childhood bedroom to escape the bathroom lineâa twin bed, old band posters still on one wall, a bookshelf filled with teenage paperbacks. A big mixing bowl sat on the floor beside the bed in case Lena couldnât make it down the hall.
Mara sat behind her, back against the headboard, one arm around Lenaâs shoulders as Lena leaned against her, eyes half closed.
âThis is surreal,â Mara murmured.
âWhat, being semi-conscious in my old room while my entire family recreates a food safety PSA?â Lena said.
âPretty much,â Mara said.
She was just thinking, Maybe I dodged this, when the same cold flip sheâd seen on Lenaâs face earlier clenched in her own gut.
Her mouth watered. The room tilted a fraction.
âOh,â she said.
Lenaâs eyes snapped open. âYou too?â
Mara nodded once, swallowing around the sudden lump in her throat. âYep. Incoming.â
She swung her legs over the side of the bed too fast; her stomach lurched in protest. Spots danced at the edges of her vision. Lena was already on her feet, a little unsteady herself, but determined.
âBathroom?â Lena asked.
Mara looked at the hallway and did a quick, bleak internal calculus. âBowl,â she said. âRight now.â
Lena grabbed it, pressed it into Maraâs hands just as the first heave hit.
It was ugly and fast. Mara bent over the bowl, the world narrowing to the sound and sensation of her body trying desperately to empty itself. The smell of garlic and pan drippings hit the back of her nose on the way up and made her gag harder.
Lena knelt beside her, one hand between her shoulder blades, the other holding Maraâs hair out of the way. âYouâre okay,â she murmured. âYouâre okay. Just let it out.â
When the wave ebbed, Mara coughed, spit, and rasped, âRemind me why people slow-roast meat for hours and then leave it sitting around like a biology experiment.â
âTradition,â Lena said. âAnd hubris.â
Mara gave a breathless huff that turned into another gag. A smaller surge followed, splattering on top of the first in the bowl, the smell intensifying.
âOkay,â Lena said quietly when Mara slumped back, eyes squeezed shut. âWelcome to the club.â
Mara wiped her mouth with the back of her wrist. âThis isâŚnot how I imagined my first Christmas with your family.â
âSame,â Lena said. âI was hoping for, like, board games. Maybe mild political arguments. Not a household outbreak.â
Outside the door, someone yelled down the hallway, âDoes anyone have any more trash bags?â
âNo!â another voice answered, despairing. âWeâre out!â
Mara laughed weakly, and even that made her wince. âWe should get them all âFood Safety 101â pamphlets next year.â
âHard no,â Lena said. âWeâre deep-cleaning my parentsâ recipe repertoire and buying them a meat thermometer.â
They ended up camped in the bedroom for the rest of the night.
A second, smaller episode hit each of them. They took turns stumbling to the bathroom when it was free, but mostly they stayed putâdozing, sitting up when the other one shifted too abruptly, murmuring, âYou okay?â and âDo you need the bowl?â like a strange call-and-response.
Sometime after midnight, when the house had gone quiet except for the occasional distant flush and the hum of the furnace, Lena reached across the rumpled blanket and found Maraâs hand.
âHey,â she said softly.
Mara turned her head, eyes heavy. âHmm?â
âNext year,â Lena said, âChinese takeout at our place. No roasts. No buffets. No potluck proteins.â
Mara managed a tired smile. âAnd bleach wipes as stocking stuffers for your parents.â
âDone,â Lena said.
They lay there in the dim glow from the hallway nightlight, both wrung out and hollow, listening to the house settle. It wasnât the cozy, picturesque Christmas Lena had imagined bringing Mara home forâbut as Maraâs thumb traced slow circles against her palm, Lena realized it was something quieter and maybe just as important:
They kept choosing each other through all of itâthrough the mess, the mistakes, the biology experiments disguised as holiday meals. Through sidewalk incidents and bathroom floors and now, apparently, contaminated pork.
Staph aureus would be a terrible souvenir.
But thisâthis stubborn, gross, ordinary togethernessâwas a pretty good one.

Mara had done everything ârightâ that morning. Half a Unisom, her OB-approved antiemetic, a dry cracker before she even sat up in bed. Sipped water slowly. Waited ten full minutes before standing. Sheâd even sat on the edge of the tub, eyes closed, doing those slow, counted breaths Lena had taught her.
By the time she got to the car, the nausea had eased to a background hum. Manageable. She could do manageable.
She texted Lena from the driveway:
heading in
nausea: 4/10
optimism: foolish but present
Lena replied almost immediately:
Text me if it bumps above a 6
no heroics today, mara
đ
For the first ten minutes of the drive, it almost felt normalâsun just up, radio low, the familiar route to the hospital. She rolled her shoulders, watched the light change on the buildings, tried to think about her first patient instead of her stomach.
Then the wave hit.
No escalation, no warning. One moment she was at a stoplight, the next her gut twisted like someone had reached up under her ribs and wrung.
Her vision fuzzed at the edges. Her mouth flooded with saliva.
âOh no,â she whispered to no one.
She swallowed hard, one hand clenching on the steering wheel. The light turned green. The car behind her honked, short and impatient.
She managed to ease off the brake and roll forward, blinking fast, breathing in ragged, careful pulls. You are not going to throw up in the car, she told herself. You are notâ
Her body disagreed.
The next wave slammed into her even harder. Her stomach clenched, a deep, unstoppable spasm. She felt that horrible, familiar rush up her chest.
Panic flared.
She flicked on her blinker and veered toward the shoulder, heart pounding. The tires bumped over the rumble strip. She jammed the gear into park with more force than necessary, fumbling for the window button with her other hand.
She didnât make it in time.
Her throat convulsed. Her mouth opened on a helpless gag and it all came up at once.
The vomit burst out in a thick, hot surge, splashing straight down the front of her scrub top and into her lap. It was louder than she expected in the small cabinâa wet, awful splatter against fabric and vinyl. Half-digested water and the ghost of the plain toast sheâd forced down, tinged yellow with bile, spread rapidly, soaking into the waistband of her pants and dripping between her thighs.
Some of it bounced off and flew forward in a messy spray, spattering the lower part of the steering wheel and the center console. Droplets hit the radio knobs and the climate controls; a thicker ribbon ran down into the seam where the dashboard met the little storage cubby, disappearing into the place crumbs always went to die.
Mara gagged again, coughing. The car filled with the sour, acid smell almost instantly.
âOh God,â she choked, eyes watering.
She grabbed blindly for anythingâher lunch bag, a napkin, anythingâand came up with nothing useful. Another heave rocketed up and she turned her head without thinking. This time it went sideways, splashing onto the door and the plastic baseboard panel by her feet. It ran down in uneven streams, pooling on the rubber floor mat and seeping into the seam where the door met the frame.
When it finally paused, she was panting, trembling, the taste of stomach acid burning the back of her throat. Warm wetness spread under her, soaking through everything.
She sat there, frozen, staring at the smeared mess on the steering wheel and the bright, obscene splashes on the dark dash. It felt like the whole car was tilting around her.
And then, because she was exhausted and pregnant and so, so tired of this, she started to cry.
Her phone buzzed in the cup holder.
She wiped her hand on a relatively clean corner of her scrub leg and fumbled it up.
You at work yet?
need a pre-clinic check in đ
Her vision blurred. She typed with clumsy thumbs:
pulled over
threw up all over car
all over me
idk what to do
The typing dots on Lenaâs end appeared almost immediately.
Where?
Mara glanced at the nearest cross street sign, squinting through tears.
71st just before the 435 ramp, east side shoulder
Seconds later:
Stay put
turn on hazards
crack windows if you can
Iâm coming
She stared at the screen.
Youâre at work
Iâm closer to you than you are to clinic
thatâs all that matters
hazards. windows. deep breaths.
Mara set the phone down, hit her hazard lights, and managed to crack the driverâs window a few inches. Cold air slid in, diluting the smell a little. She focused on breathingânot too deep (that made her stomach threaten to rebel again), not too shallow (that made the panic worse).
By the time Lenaâs car pulled up behind her, hazard lights blinking in sync, Mara had gone from crying to hollow. The worst of the nausea had ebbed, leaving behind exhaustion and a sticky, cooling mess.
Lenaâs knock on the window was gentle.
âHey,â she called softly through the crack. âItâs me.â
Mara reached for the lock with shaking fingers. Lena opened the door carefully, then stopped, taking in the scene.
Vomit down the front of Maraâs scrubs, soaking the seat. Splashes across the lower dash and center console. Yellowish streaks on the plastic baseboard by the door and droplets clinging to the edge of the steering wheel.
âOh, honey,â Lena said, voice going very quiet.
âIâm so sorry,â Mara blurted, humiliation flaring hot again. âIt justâit came out of nowhere. I tried to pull over, I tried to get the windowââ
Lena shook her head immediately. âNo. You did exactly what you were supposed to do. You pulled over. You stayed safe. The rest isâŚcleanup. Thatâs all.â
She crouched beside the open door, trying to meet Maraâs eyes.
âAre you still nauseated or justâŚwrecked?â Lena asked.
âMostly wrecked,â Mara said, a little hysterical laugh escaping. âMaybe a five out of ten nauseated. I think my stomach accomplished its goal.â
âOkay,â Lena said. âThatâs information. Can you swing your legs out without feeling like youâre going to go for round two?â
Mara swallowed, tested a small shift of her weight. Her stomach protested but didnât surge.
âI think so,â she said.
âGood,â Lena said. âIâve got supplies.â
She stood and moved around to the trunk, popping it open. When she came back, she had a roll of paper towels, a half-used container of baby wipes, an old towel reserved for âdog emergencies,â and a small trash bag.
âBeen married to a pediatrician before,â Lena said dryly. âAlways keep a vomit kit in the car. Occupational trauma.â
Despite everything, Mara huffed out a laugh.
âOkay,â Lena said. âOne thing at a time. Can you stand up and step back toward me? Weâll deal with you first, then the car.â
Mara grimaced, then nodded. Lena offered both hands, bracing herself. Mara pushed herself up, feeling the awful squelch of the soaked fabric shifting against her skin. For a second the smell intensified and her stomach fluttered, but Lenaâs grip was steady and she managed to plant her feet on the pavement without incident.
As soon as she was upright, Lena draped the towel over the dampest part of Maraâs front, shielding her from the world a little.
âThere,â Lena murmured. âTemporary dignity cloak.â
Maraâs throat tightened. âYouâre going to be late,â she said weakly.
âI texted my chief,â Lena said. âTold him I have a pregnancy emergency. If he complains, I will invite him to stand in a puddle of vomit on the side of 71st Street.â
Mara made a strangled sound that mightâve been a sob or a laugh.
Lena took a few baby wipes and gently started cleaning Maraâs hands, wrists, and any splatters on her arms. Her touch was carefulânot treating Mara like she was disgusting, justâŚmessy, like a kid whoâd fallen in a puddle.
âAny in your hair?â Lena asked, peering around her ear and ponytail.
Mara shook her head. âJust all over everything else.â
âOkay,â Lena said. âWeâre going to do a field strip. Iâve got spare scrubs in my car. You sit in the passenger seat, Iâll clean the worst of this, then we drive home. Work is canceled.â
âYou have patients,â Mara protested, out of reflex more than conviction.
âI also have a pregnant partner who just redecorated her dashboard with breakfast,â Lena said softly. âTrust me, the ethics committee will be on my side.â
She got Mara settled into the passenger seat of her car with the towel over her lap and the window cracked, then turned back to the crime scene.
She stood for a second, justâŚlooking. Vomit on the seat, streaked along the stitching. Globs on the baseboard where the door met the frame. A sticky line dripping down from the dash switches to the little ledge above the cup holder.
âOkay,â Lena muttered to herself. âWeâre doing this.â
She pulled on a pair of nitrile gloves from the kit, tore off a wad of paper towels, and started with the biggest, thickest mess. She worked methodically, scooping, blotting, using wipes for the smeared patches on plastic and vinyl. The smell made her own stomach lurch more than once; she paused to breathe through her mouth and shake it off.
Mara watched through the windshield, cheeks burning.
âYou shouldnât have to do this,â she said when Lena came up for air.
Lena leaned in the open driverâs door, resting her forearms on the roof, gloves hanging loose.
âI want to,â Lena said simply. âYou think Iâd rather be in a windowless room arguing with insurance about someoneâs medication refill? This is gross, but itâs ours.â
Maraâs eyes stung. âI feel like I canât do anything on my own,â she whispered. âI couldnât even make it to work withoutâŚthis.â
Lenaâs expression softened. She stepped closer, one gloved hand still holding a balled-up wad of paper towel.
âHey,â she said, voice low and serious. âLook at me.â
Mara did.
âYour job right now,â Lena said, âis to grow a person while your body behaves like itâs on a sinking ship. That is not a small thing. If that means I get to be the designated vomit-cleaner and chauffeur for a while, thatâs not you failing. Thatâs us being a team.â
Mara swallowed hard. âI hate that you see me like this.â
âI hate that youâre suffering,â Lena said. âBut seeing you like this doesnât make me love you less. It just makes me want to fight harder for you.â
Something in Maraâs chest loosened a little at that.
âOkay,â she whispered.
âOkay,â Lena echoed. âIâm going to finish damage control in there. Then weâre going home. Youâre getting in the shower and then back in bed. Iâm calling your OB about work leave. Deal?â
Mara made a face. âI hate being the patient.â
âToo bad,â Lena said gently. âRight now, you are.â
She went back to work on the car, finishing the dash and the floor mat as best she could with the supplies at hand. It wasnât perfect, not even close, but it would be tolerable until a professional cleaning.
When she finally peeled off her gloves and tied the trash bag, she slid into the driverâs seat of her own car and glanced at Mara.
âYou ready?â she asked.
Mara nodded, looking wrung out but a little calmer. âYeah.â
As they pulled back onto the road, hazard lights off now, Lena reached over the center console and found Maraâs hand, giving it a firm squeeze.
âNew rule,â Lena said. âAs long as your stomach is staging a coup, you donât drive yourself to work. If youâre well enough for clinic, youâre well enough for me or an Uber to take you.â
Mara stared out the window, watching the familiar route in reverse.
âThat feels like giving up,â she admitted.
âItâs not giving up,â Lena said. âItâs adjusting to reality. Thatâs good medicine. You tell your patients that all the time.â
Mara sighed, leaning her head back against the headrest. âYouâre very annoying when youâre right.â
âI know,â Lena said lightly. âOccupational hazard.â
They drove in silence for a bit, the air slowly clearing, the worst of the morningâs chaos receding into something that felt survivable.
Mara watched their hands together on the consoleâLenaâs thumb moving in slow, unconscious circles against her skinâand thought, not for the first time, that there was nothing pretty about this part of their story.
But there was something solid in it. Something that smelled like bleach and ginger and car freshener and love.
âThank you,â she said quietly, breaking the silence.
Lena glanced over, the corner of her mouth lifting.
âAlways,â she said. âYouâd do it for me.â
âYeah,â Mara said, thinking of norovirus Thanksgiving, of bathrooms and basins. âYeah. I already have.â
âExactly,â Lena said. âThatâs the deal.â
And for the first time that morning, Mara felt a tiny, stubborn flicker of okay-ness under the exhaustion. The car would get cleaned. Work would wait. The pregnancy, messy and brutal and miraculous, would keep going.
Iâve heard of bubble guts before but Iâve never experienced it for myself. Until today. This morning I had a latte with coffeemilk (coffee flavored milk) and then very rich cheesy pizza for lunch. Iâve been noticing my increasing lactose intolerance lately (itâs always been there. I just never connected the dots between autism, digestion challenges, and family genetics lactose intolerance).
But today was rough. I could hear my stomach bubbling angrily in the back seat of the family car. My sister recently got over the stomach flu, and Iâm very cautious when it comes to irl vomiting.
When we got home, I went straight to the bathroom.
Content warning below! Graphic descriptions of bowel movements.
My stomach was bubbling so loudly and as soon as I sat down on the toilet, the sounds amplified.
My stomach contracted and pushed all the food downward. My intestines pushed all the waste out of me in liquid form and it was disgusting. Bubbles inside me moving, always downward. The toilet was a gross mess after just a few seconds.

Yesterday night was the start of it. Iâve been testing out some food intolerances per doctors orders, and seeing what is the worst- needless to say, my tummy has been VERY upset recently. Nausea, bloating, vomiting, you name it. Granted Iâm not feeling well, I havenât been eating a ton.
last night I went out with some friends. My tummy started to hurt after the first few drinks, the world spinning and the booze and liquor sloshing around in my gurgly belly. At one point, I blacked out- Iâm missing a chunk of time, but came to with my head out the window of an uber, swallowing back heaves while I fought desperately to keep all the tummy stew down. Eventually, the sickness won- I spewed all down the side of the car, retching and dry heaving until I got to my apartment. Belly churning but much emptier, I fell into bed.
this morning, I went to get breakfast with a friend. Hungover, nauseous, and queasy beyond belief, I tried my best to get through my meal. I was feeling decent until we got to our location. I knew it was coming on- I ate something I didnât agree with, making my belly swell up like a balloon, tight and squelching. I tried to take deep breaths, but eventually ran out to the sidewalk and immediately projectile vomited chunky breakfast in a corner, splashing onto my jeans and tee shirt. I burped and spewed until the belly soup was out of me. All those barely digested bites swirling around had to come out. My tummy immediately felt better! Still a bit nauseous, but all in all much better.

imagine a girl holding everything in while she's at work all day. the barista at her local cafe made her coffee with a bunch of whole milk, her lunch consisted of cheesy pasta and broccoli. and just to add a cherry on top, her office gave out complimentary ice cream. now everything is bubbling and churning away in her upset belly.
her tight dress is stretched out, her belly so bloated that she struggles to hide it. she shifts uncomfortably in her chair and attempts to hide the loud gurgles and groans that her belly is making as everything brews inside of her... she's also struggling to hide her arousal.
she gives in a bit and reaches underneath her desk to rub her upset gut, feeling every rumble and churn underneath her hand. all the bubbling is driving her insane, and the feeling of all the gas rolling around inside of her swollen belly is almost too much to take. she lets out a short gasp as a loud groan tears through her belly. she bites her lip and clenches her legs together as her panties dampen.
"fuck, my belly is so gurgly" she thinks as she feels more gas bubbling in her stomach. thankfully it's just about time to clock out. she wraps up her work for the day before leaving and heading to her car. once she's settled, she looks down at her insanely bloated, noisy belly and gently rubs it.
now that she's in her car it's like the sounds are amplified. all she can hear is her belly gurgling and bubbling away, begging for a release. she moans softly, her arousal starting to grow once more. she decides she wants to record her upset belly so she can use it later...
she sets up her phone and grabs her mic, showing a good angle of her swollen belly in her tight dress. as she hits record she presses the mic to her belly and every gassy churn and long groan can be heard. at first she tries to contain herself, but it's not long before she's moaning and gasping in the background shamelessly as her gurgly belly turns her on more and more. as she continues to hold it all in, her urge to go gets stronger and her belly gets louder. at this point she has the bubble guts bad, and she can feel all the nonstop gurgling under her hand as she presses the mic deep into her swollen lower belly.
"ohh" she gasps, "it's so loud.. and bubbly..". a loud groan tears through her belly once more, making her realize just how badly she needs to go to the bathroom. she decides to keep holding it, too lost in her own arousal to stop and drive home to relieve herself. she bites her lip as her eyes roll back. the gurgling was getting really aggressive, and she could feel everything burbling against the skin of her round, packed gut.
"mmm fuckkk.." she moans loudly as she starts to lose it. she clenches her legs together once more and pushes the mic further into her belly, desperate to feel every single gurgle against her hand. she then reaches down with her other hand to play with her belly button. she slowly and seductively rubs circles into it as her upset gut continues to churn violently.
she could feel her belly getting more bloated and upset as the time passed. everything had really brewed up inside her poor belly, and needed to be let out. suddenly a long string of loud, aggressive bubbling hit her, making her quickly grip her lower belly and gasp.
"ohhh my god," she moans breathlessly "fuck, I need to go so bad.."
she records for a few more moments, rubbing her upset belly as it continues to gurgle up a storm. as she drives home she presses her palm to her gut, feeling her belly bubbling and churning like crazy before rushing to the bathroom.
A/N: Sorrynotsorry for all the head-hopping/changes in POV here. It just kind of had to happen. Also, this got really long and I had no idea how to end it and I wanted more follow up from Rory and Jeremiah's talk and to see Noa again but I'm out of steam. So it will be in the next fic. Also this is extra unedited.
âCan I tell your girlfriend itâs okay to slow down? I donât think anyone here cares if the food trays have decorative flowers on them.â Avery plopped himself down next to Rory on the sofa and handed him a beer. âI donât think sheâs stopped moving since I got here.â
âFiancee,â Rorry corrected him with a grin. âAnd, my mom cares.â He inclined his head towards the kitchen where his mother was talking and gesturing exuberantly at the pizza squares Noa was arranging on a platter. Cindy Landis was an interior designer who believed her talents deserved to be shared with everyone and not only her paying clients. Her style was more formal and embellished than Noaâs preference for clean lines and industrial details, and Noa was a very good sport about all the decor pieces Cindy sent them as gifts. The platter holding the pizza squares was gold-rimmed Annieglass and looked rather out of place next to the hammered iron trays and copper bowls holding the rest of the food.
Rory watched idly as Noa accepted a Diet Coke from Jeremiah and then leaned in to ask him a question. Sheâd pulled her hair back into a sleek ponytail and was wearing a fitted black turtleneck dress and high black boots that Rory couldnât wait to get her out of later. It was as if she was a sexy piece of industrial decor herself, he thought, right down to the emerald-cut platinum and diamond ring on her finger. Getting engaged hadnât changed anything between them - but at the same time it had changed everything. He couldnât wait to discover what it felt like to actually be married.
As if she could feel the weight of Roryâs thoughts, Noa looked over and gave him a private smile that made him seriously consider kicking everyone else out of the condo. He couldnât, of course; their engagement party was in two days and their families were already in town. Tonight was just a casual hang-out, but asking them all to leave so he and Noa could have some alone time was obviously out of the question.
And anyway, Noa seemed to be deep in conversation with Jeremiah and he didnât want to interrupt. The doctor had arrived early, carrying a dozen Dotties Donuts and looking pale and tired and a little bit lost. Rory knew heâd just gotten over the same bug Noa had had, but that clearly wasnât all. It had something to do with Drew - and the reason for his absence -Â but Rory hadnât had the chance to ask his friend what was going on. Noa would get to the bottom of it; assuming she hadnât already.
âYour mom wants to know where you keep your vases.â Logan interrupted Roryâs thoughts as she put a tray of sushi and another of mini gourmet sub sandwiches on the coffee table. âI guess she and Mrs. Calder both brought bouquets?â She asked the question hesitantly, clearly trying to skirt any tension between the mothers. Rory snorted and grabbed a sandwich.
âFirst of all, call them Cindy and Rachel; they both want to pretend theyâre still in their twenties. Second of all, vases are in the high cabinet above the fridge.â Rory started to point and then stopped. âNo, wait. Get one from above the fridge and use that crystal one on the bookshelf.â It was another gift from his mother - ornate and expensive - and Noa hated it. It had earned a permanent place on the bookshelf after a FaceTime call when Cindy had noticed that they were displaying the modern-edge, black ceramic teapot Noaâs parents had given them for a housewarming gift on that same bookshelf, and wouldnât her vase be a striking contrast?. Rory had suggested that he could âaccidentallyâ bump into the vase but Noa pointed out that would just encourage his mother to buy them another one.Â
âAnd I assume it matters whose flowers go in which vase?â Logan asked. âYour mom brought lilies and Mrs. . . I mean, Rachel, brought a mix of what look like very fancy wildflowers.â She smiled apologetically. âI donât want to make a mistake.â
âYou wonât,â Rory reassured her. âThe moms are actually very good friends, and itâs usually safest to just let them do their thing. Give them the vases and let them figure it out.âÂ
âWill do,â Logan nodded. âThank you.â Her eyes lit up suddenly and Rory assumed Gabe had finally arrived from work. But instead Logan was smiling at . . . Adam? He watched, amused, as the two of them greeted each other like old friends whoâd been apart for a while - hugging, kissing cheeks, chattering at each other. Next to him, Avery sat up straighter. Rory bit back a grin.
âI didnât know Logan and Adam were such good friends,â he commented casually. He kind of wished Noa was right there because sheâd want to hear this conversation.
Avery shrugged, equally casual. âAdam drank a bad protein shake or something; puked all over Gabeâs apartment a couple of weeks ago. I guess Logan took care of him.â Â
This was news to Rory but then, heâd had a few other and more important things on his mind recently. âAhh,â he nodded. âLoganâs good at that sort of thing.â And then he paused, considering his next question before ultimately deciding to ask it. âWas that before or after he got you sick the day Noa and I took care of you at work? Or . . . was it the other way around?âÂ
Maybe it was nosy of him, but Avery was generally very open about his relationships. Not that Adam Calder was a relationship, but still. It would be practically irresponsible for Rory not to try to figure out what was going on with those two, since they were both likely to be in the wedding party.
But Avery looked genuinely startled. âWhat?â he stuttered. âHe didnât . . . or I wasnât . . . â His cheeks turned red. âI donât think he was sick, sick. He just had a stomach ache.â
âWho had a stomach ache?â As if summoned by the conversation, Adam suddenly appeared in front of the sofa. Gabe had finally arrived and he and Logan were talking to Noa and the mothers. Roryâs and Noaâs fathers had wisely taken Roryâs younger brothers back to the hotel to swim to give them a break from all the wedding talk. Gabe caught Roryâs eye and gave a tiny shrug that clearly meant Rory was going to owe him one for running interference with their moms.Â
âYou did,â Rory answered. âThe night you were supposed to go out to dinner with Noa. You know, the night Morrison here came down with the same virus from hell that he passed onto Noa and then she gave to Jeremiah.â Rory wasnât sure how heâd avoided the bug but somehow heâd managed to stay healthy, even though heâd ended up taking care of both his fiancee and then his friend while they took turns battling the fever and nausea.
Adam frowned. âI didnât think I was contagious; it was just an upset stomach.â He turned to Avery. âWhat day did we . . .â He glanced at Rory, wheels obviously turning. â. . . I mean, we hadnât seen each since your concussion. Right?â
âRight,â agreed Avery immediately. âThat was more than two weeks ago, so you couldnât have infected me.âÂ
âExactly. No way I could have gotten you sick.â Adam seemed satisfied with that conclusion. He glanced back towards the kitchen. âDâyou think maybe you should go save your fiancee? When I was in there they were deep in a debate about french service versus a plated meal for your wedding dinner. I think Noeyâs head was about to fly off the way she was swiveling between each of them.â
Rory jumped up. âFuck. She wants stations; we werenât going to tell the moms until weâd secured the venue.â He didnât mention that Noa had begun planning certain details of their wedding months ago - even before they were officially engaged - to avoid this very scenario. She had a very specific vision for their wedding and as far as Rory was concerned, his primary job was to make sure Cindy Landis and Rachel Calder didnât take over with visions of their own. He rushed off in the direction of his fiancee and the mothers. Â
Adam sat down and started loading sushi onto his plate. âThank you for not mentioning that weâve been together more recently than your concussion.â Avery rolled his eyes.
âIâm not that stupid.â He watched Adam eat for a second. âSo you donât think one of us got the other sick?âÂ
Adam shrugged. âMy stomach hurt and I threw up a couple of times but then I felt better; Iâm not sure I had a fever like you did.â He held out his plate. âWant a piece?â
âOnly if you torch it first,â Avery shot back. âYou know I donât do raw.âÂ
âAnd yet youâre perfectly eager to put other things in your mouth,â laughed Adam. Iâll turn you into a sushi lover yet, Morrison.â
âDonât count on it,â muttered Avery. He looked around the condo. âMaybe we uhh, shouldnât be sitting here talking just the two of us, you know? Lots of suspicious minds in this room.â
Adam laughed again. âMy sister and future brother-in-law are at the top of that list but I can guarantee theyâre more wrapped up in making sure their mothers stay in their lane. I love them both, but Cindyâs a lot on a normal day and this wedding seems to have taken over the rational parts of my momâs brain too.âÂ
âWhat about Gabe, Logan, and Jeremiah?â Avery subtly nodded at the trio standing across the room. âDo you think any of them know?â Â
Adamâs lips tightened for a moment and Avery tried not to stare at them too hard. âLoganâll figure it out,â he said finally. âNormally Jerermiah would too but I think heâs got . . . other things on his mind.â His tone implied that he knew what those things were, but that he wasnât about to tell Avery. Not that he would have asked. Instead he nodded. Â
âWell then letâs go talk to them and head off any suspicion.â He reached forward and grabbed a couple of sandwiches. âYou can keep your sushi.â
âPeasant,â muttered Adam.
An hour later Noa was still talking to her and Roryâs moms about wedding details but she released Rory to go play host to their friends. âTheyâre likely to get into trouble without supervision,â she urged, pushing him in the direction of the living room. âAt least Gabe and Adam will and I donât think Jerâs in the right headspace to manage them.â
âLogan can be in charge,â he protested weakly. To be honest, as much as he wanted to stay and support Noa, Rory was kind of relieved at the thought of being able to go sit down. Without really realizing it, heâd been eating all throughout the entire wedding discussion. Besides all the sushi and sandwiches there were platters of bbq meatballs, potato salad, chips and dip, cheese and crackers, and several trays of elaborately decorated brownies - and Rory had eaten too much of all of it. He was stuffed, and what had started out as twinges of indigestion had now developed into a full-blown belly ache. The Pepto heâd taken on his last trip to the bathroom hadnât even put a dent in his discomfort. Â
Plus, he didnât want anyone to know he wasnât feeling well. Normally he would have told Noa, but the thought of complaining that heâd overeaten in front of their families made him feel like he was about six years old. Not to mention that if Noa excused herself to take care of him, there was no telling what wedding decisions their moms might make on their own. He couldnât let that happen, so instead heâd stifled his need to burp and pressed his stomach into the side of the kitchen island whenever a cramp hit him.Â
Now he kissed the side of Noaâs head and squeezed her hand and walked into the living room, wondering if anyone would notice if he unbuttoned his pants.
To his surprise only Jeremiah was there, sitting on the sofa and looking at something on his phone. Rory collapsed down next to him, not even bothering to muffle his queasy grunt when everything in his stomach shifted. Jeremiah lifted his eyebrows. âYou okay there, Ror?â His eyes drifted back to his phone. Â
âAte too much; Iâm an idiot,â he admitted. âWhere is everyone?â Since it was only the two of them he went ahead and opened his khakis. It eased the feeling that he had a steel band wrapped around his middle but did nothing to relieve how overfull he was. In fact it just gave all the food in his stomach more room to spread out and churn. That got Jeremiahâs attention. He whistled.
âDamn, you werenât kidding; youâre bloated as fuck.â Without asking he pushed up Roryâs shirt and rested his palm over his navel. âAre you in pain? This is really tight.â He lay the back of his other hand against Roryâs cheek and clucked with disapproval when he felt how clammy he was. âEveryone went upstairs to play videogames in your office,â he explained. âGabe got a new gaming system or something.â His fingers traced around Roryâs middle. âDoes this hurt?â
Not for the first time, Rory was glad to have a friend who was a doctor. âA little crampy off and on but mostly really uncomfortable,â he agreed. He paused for a second, and then figured there was no reason to hold back. âAnd kind of queasy.â
âHmm.â Jeremiah pressed lightly into his side and Rory gulped when his nausea spiked. âI canât tell if this is all food-related or if thereâs air in there too. Drew would know what . . . â - he froze for a moment and then abruptly pulled his hand away. - âNever mind.âÂ
Rory forced himself to burp so he could respond without gagging. âDâyou want to tell me whatâs going on with you two?â he asked bluntly. Noa had told him a lot but he wanted to hear it from Jeremiah. Normally he might have eased into the conversation or waited to see if Jeremiah brought it up but he was feeling too lousy for tact. âHeâs been gone . . . Hic! . . . a long time.â Â
Jeremiah grimaced; he was more than a little familiar with the way Rory got the hiccups when he was nauseous. âShould we have this conversation in the bathroom?â he asked, equally blunt. âSince youâre going to end up there at some point anyway.â When Rory didnât answer right away, Jeremiah gave an impatient huff. Â
âAnd fine; once weâre there Iâll tell you whatâs going on with me and Drew.âÂ
âYeah, okay, â Rory agreed. He wasnât sure he was going to puke but if he was going to be feeling sick for a while heâd rather suffer without an audience of his friends and family. âMine, not the . . . hic . . . Hic! . . . powder room.â His stomach turned over with each hiccup - the mass of food heâd consumed rolling like sludge and trying to crawl up his throat. He revised the chances of him throwing up as he stumbled down the hall and pushed into the bathroom.
âIâm not sure when Drewâs coming back.â Jeremiahâs voice was so flat Rory had to strain to hear him over the gurgling of his stomach. He lowered himself to the bathroom floor and leaned back against the wall - away from the toilet in the hope that he wouldnât need it. Even with his hiccups the nausea seemed content to hover just underneath âneed to pukeâ territory and so he settled in to listen. With any luck heâd start to digest and be able to avoid getting sick altogether. Now he tried to focus on what Jeremiah was saying about his boyfriend. Because it didnât make sense, given what he knew about the couple. They were endgame, to use one of Noaâs favorite phrases.Â
âWhat do you mean, you donât know?â Rory tried to push himself upright so he could look at Jeremiahâs face. The manâs expression was closed off, but Rory knew him well enough to see through the mask. It was clearly bad - worse than Rory had guessed. Fuck. His next hiccup was wet and he gulped down the taste of salami and sushi, feeling worse with each spasm of his stomach. But if he threw up now heâd never find out what was going on, so he forced himself to take slow deep breaths until the nausea dropped back to manageable level.
Jeremiah had been quiet, watching him, and obviously ready to jump in if needed. But as soon as Rory exhaled and slumped back into the wall he started talking again. âWe had a fight, and now I donât know when heâs coming home.â The other word - if - hung in the air, so heavy Rory could almost see it bearing down on them. It wasnât possible - Jeremiah couldnât be saying what it sounded like - that maybe Drew wasnât planning to come back. At all. Â
Rory loved Jeremiah like a brother. He was a beacon of calm - a balance to Roryâs intensity and one of the few people Rory felt comfortable opening up to completely. Gabe was his best and oldest friend and their relationship would always have an element of the little boys they had once been. Avery and Jack he trusted with his life. But Jeremiah understood his mind and his heart, and Rory liked to think he offered him the same. And now it was clear that his friendâs heart was hurting.
âWhat . . . what did you fight about?â Roryâs mouth felt sticky and bitter. He gave a harsh cough to clear the lump in his throat and leaned forward over his lap until the pressure worked up a belch. âIâm fine, I swear,â he reassured Jeremiah quickly. âTell me what happened.â
âScoot closer to the toilet first; youâre starting to look grey.â Jeremiah kicked Roryâs leg until he shuffled a foot to the right. The movement made everything in Roryâs stomach shift uncomfortably and he closed his eyes for a second, willing himself not to throw up. Jeremiah kicked his leg again. âFor godâs sake, Ror; puke already if you need to.âÂ
Rory shook his head. âIâm . . . hic! . . . Iâm fine,â he said stubbornly. âOr, okay, yeah. My stomachâs killing me but nothing seems to want out yet so you may as well talk.â Â
Jeremiah sighed, looking defeated. âIt shouldnât be complicated, but it is, you know? I assume you know the situation; Noa told you, right?â When Rory gave a tight nod, he kept talking.
I should be happy that Drewâs connected with his father, and I am, I really am.â He paused for a second. âItâs just . . . I canât stop thinking that itâs not real. And it hurts that Drew doesnât trust me when I tell him that.â His mouth twisted. âEven though I understand why. Iâm just too understanding. Noa told me I enabled him and sheâs right. I should have known better.âÂ
Rory blew out a breath. âNo . . . no blaming the victim,â he gasped. âYou make it easier for the rest of us to be better, okay? Including Drew. He . . . HrrurRP . . . sorry - â The burp was frothy and wet and sent a wave of prickly discomfort over Roryâs skin. âHe loves you. You know that.â He glared at the toilet and then finally reached over to push up the seat. âFuck I wish I hadnât eaten so much,â he groaned. âIâd be . . . Hic! . . . saying this a lot better.âÂ
âYouâre doing fine.â Jeremiah stood up and filled the cup on the side of the sink with water. âAnd I know he loves me. I just wish he wasnât taking me for granted right now.â
âThatâs . . . thatâs fair,â agreed Rory before he leaned forward to spit into the toilet bowl. âBut sometimes itâs easiest to hurt the ones we love the most.â He started to sit back again and then decided that it would be a good idea to stay where he was, drooling into the water. âIâm going to throw up soon,â he warned.
âObviously,â said Jeremiah dryly. âI think you ate half your weight in sushi.âÂ
The thought made Roryâs stomach turn over. âFuck . . . fuck you,â he gagged. Behind him Jeremiah chuckled.
âJust trying to help get this over with.â He scooted forward and planted his hand on Roryâs back. âCâmon now, one good burp.â Â
At that point Rory would have settled for a bad burp. Instead, he hiccuped again and lurched up onto his knees so he could brace his arms across the rim of the toilet. Pressure built in the back of his throat. Jeremiah thumped between his shoulder blades and he retched. âF-f-fuck it hurts,â he stuttered as another cramp rolled through him. The ball of food was so heavy it felt like he was trying to throw up a brick. Â
It came to him suddenly that Drew probably would have known what to do, even better than Jeremiah. The doctor was good at . . . doctoring, but Drewâs bedside manner when someone was feeling sick was top notch. The man seriously had a gift for helping ease nausea and it made Rory feel oddly bereft, missing it. He could only imagine how bad it was for Jeremiah.
That was the end of his maudlin thoughts though. Roryâs stomach twisted again, and this time it pushed up a bubble of air that was so thick it almost felt solid. He belched, deeply enough that the water ruffled below in the toilet bowl and he let out a tiny whine as his face heated and his jaw grew heavy.
He hovered there in the absolute misery of waiting to be sick for what felt like ages, panting. And then suddenly his dinner was in his throat and he was vomiting up wave after wave of partially digested sushi and sandwiches and brownies and all the other mess heâd shoved down. It was violent and noisy and every time he thought it was getting a break the feeling of being too full came back and he threw up some more.Â
Jeremiah stayed quiet - not bothering with encouraging words - and Rory appreciated it. When he was finally reduced to just burping up little mouthfuls of spit and bile, Jeremih handed him a hand towel, one of the old ones Noa kept under the vanity for cleaning. Â
âThanks,â he rasped. He felt wrung out and exhausted but at least the nausea was gone. âThat sucked.â
âNot so fun from this end either,â Jeremiah agreed. âI texted Noa; she says, and I quote, no pressure, but if Rory can make an appearance to say goodbye after heâs done losing his dinner it would save me a lot of explaining.â Jeremiah shrugged apologetically. âAs both your doctor and your friend Iâm telling you to go.â
Rory nodded. He knew it would make everything easier if he came out to talk to his family - and didnât let his mother know heâd been sick. âLet me just splash water on my face.â He stood up slowly and grimaced at his image in the mirror. Pasty and ill - there was no way to hide it. He rubbed at his cheeks, trying to work color into them.
âIâll tell them you look fine to me; and not to worry because Iâm a doctor.â Jeremiah pushed Rory in the direction of the bedroom. Noaâll back me up.â
âShe will,â Rory agreed. Now that the nausea was mostly gone he could handle anything. âThank you; this went above and beyond.â
Jeremiah shrugged. âNo, thank you for letting me dump my relationship problems on you. Probably not what you wanted to hear while you were getting sick.â
