The Vessel, Percy, takes a long while to wake. When they do, they quickly notice the absence of their sibling—for a moment, alarm fills them. Where did they go? Did something happen to them? Why had they not noticed they’d gone?

Hello Percy.

Ghost has woken up and is out exploring once more, visiting a past Sibling of mine.

Do not worry, thou is ok, and has slept much better.

Also, Knight remembered the mention of an injured leg, but didn't know which one, so healed them both beforehand.

Unsure when thy will come back to Dirtmouth, but Little Ghost does not mind if Kin waits or not.

Thine shells will meet again for sure.

They hold the letter close to their chest.

Even though the Deepnest Vessel doesn't know exactly who Ghost is, there are some features on them that are quite...strange.

More strange, they stumble a bit and have their head down as if sleepy, but is holding their own lantern with no issue.

At first, they contemplate running and hiding, fearing it was another odd creature of the caverns when they realize the approaching figure more closely resembled a sibling—like Chip was. Chip said that that evil creature was already gone, but the unusual features this approaching sibling bore was still a cause for suspicion and trepidation.

“…Very lost. For…a long…time.”

The one in the slain Nosk's den yes?

Their appearance was normal, save for a few oddities: Two pairs of black roots on the sides behind their head, curved legs with three sharp toes, and a tail with six pale markings on the top and some strands on both sides.

The analyzing didn't go unnoticed however.

Is Sibling ok?

“Yes…am okay. M-Mostly…” They answer, but their hands and fang were shaking lightly.

Good, good...

Knight has been here before, so thou will be alright.

Am currently heading to Dirtmouth to take rest there, want to come with?

They put their hand down and hold their cheek for a moment as if a bit embarrassed before responding.

Dirtmouth is a town way above here.

A very peaceful town, even if not many bugs live there anymore.

Ghost points upward for emphasis.

The Vessel quietly ponders this. They don’t know what a town is, but if bugs live there, and if it is somewhere above this place, it had to mean it is outside these caverns.

And if their newfound sibling was willing to take them there…

They’d be foolish to refuse.

The Vessel leans closer to them, forgetting about their previous wariness altogether.

Mhm.

Little Ghost has been to Deepnest many times, thou is used to the dangers and twists by now.

They had to take a step backwards to keep their balance, but they hug back just as tight. A purr can be heard emanating from them, tail slowly wagging side to side as the roots hung limp.

Their head suddenly snaps onto something behind the other, the roots now going from limp to spread out. Three more appear from the top of their head, the whole thing in a threatened pose.

Moreover, a low growl escapes them as they pull out their nail from their back.

A Grub?

It makes cute little noises, jumping up and down happily.

In response, Ghost stays quiet for a few seconds until a black, Wyrm-shaped mouth peeks out from under the chin, causing their head to be pushed back a little. Accompanying it was a tongue that looked similar to a Void Tendril, though it had a hooked tip, with spines on the bottom and two different sized white dots on each side of said tip.

Clicks and hisses were made from the Vessel, like it was baiting the Grub to come closer. In turn, the creature slowly reveals itself to be a mimic, inching foward as if confused and curious. When close enough, in unbelievable speed, they lunge forth and slash the damn thing in half like it was butter. After that, the mouth and tongue slither back into the mask, and they clear their "throat" before turning around to face their sibling, completely unfazed and roots going back to what they looked like the first time they met.

Anyways, we can go.

Do not worry, Little Ghost will make sure Sibling doesn't fall.

The journey was an interesting one to say the least. Through the climbing and jumping, they not once lose grip on their nail to keep enemies at bay. Other methods of deterrent were used too, such as swiping claws, tail whips, and even leg kicks. Safe to say, this was quite a strong little beast, yet gentle and graceful all the same.

Though there were instances of taking out a map for a moment to make sure they knew where they were going, it was most likely sparked from their sleepy forgetfulness that wasn't really much of a hindrance, at least for now. It can almost be considered impressive on how they could be so alert while being tired all at once.

Later in the travel, the Vessel tries to strike up a conversation to pass the time.

So how did Kin manage to escape from the lair?

Upon hearing the question, however, they winced.

Thy would ask how but, suppose it is best left unsaid.

Something else lighter in curiosity, does Sibling know of Void Speak?

Me and mine kinship speak it, none other than beings of Void or wield Void can hear it.

They slowly shake their head.

Ghost is not sure if it can be taught, but thy is glad such is still heard.

The Speak is a tricky language for sure.

A bit more adventuring, and soon they reach up below a large opening, some mushrooms spotted in the distance.

But they noticed that their sibling is not jumping. They look at them, quickly noticing their exhaustion, eliciting a worried frown.

For a bit, yes...

After the other jumped off, they stand up, using their sibling's shoulder as a crutch. They start groaning and holding their head, feeling a little dizzy from the whole ordeal.

What's wrong with them? They usually don't get drained this easily, right? Is it solely because of their drowsiness, or simply because they hadn't done a task such as this before?

The monster looks up. It seemed so high, higher than the other openings. Or was that just their vision?

Regardless, they take a second or two of staring until an idea enters their mind.

They position themselves to just barely seeing the top edge in front of them, then lets their mouth and tongue appear again. The teeth widen as much as possible, pushing their mask back way more than last time. The tendril quickly shoots out and lodges half of its "head" into said edge like a grappling hook. Given how high above the pit is, the added length to the appendage was, to put it lightly, quite absurd.

Nevertheless, Ghost pulls the both of them up at such a fast speed, claws clutching onto the ledge as tight as possible while letting the tongue dislodge itself from the cracked rock it made, hiding it and the mouth once more. Then, the creature climbs up (albeit with some struggle), and once a good distance away from the hole, finally do they let themselves collapse, deep breaths taken, but still very much conscious.

Wide eyes take in the many mushrooms around them, wonderment filling their gaze. The sights, the colors…it’s nothing like Deepnest.

They purred and purred, truly happy for their relative. Then, a little (slightly awkward) nuzzle.

It takes them a long while to calm down, and when they finally do, they look up at them with a weak smile and watery eyes.

The two begin their next destination, encountering new dangers (at least to the Deepnest Vessel) along the way. While the little Knight was becoming a bit more clumsy due to the call of sleep trying to dig its fingers into them, they do their best to stay awake by any means necessary.

Soon enough, they managed to reach the station, and they wack the bell to call the Last Stag. After giving directions on where they wanted to go, they get on, then hold their hand out for their relative to hop on as well.

As the ride continued, Ghost was deep in thought. Remembering what a friend of theirs told them down in the Ancient Basin, about the battle at King's Station, how they had to be subdued into sleep, and yet having no memory of it afterwards. Next, wonders of how their other friends and siblings were doing came to their drowsy mind. Perhaps they can check in on a few of them once they rest proper.

When the travel had reached its conclusion, they get off, helping their sibling down.

Even if the colors weren't as vibrant as the wastes, it still invoked a sense of calm and welcome.

They approached the bench, perching beside Ghost. For once, they feel relaxed. Any anxiety or fear that had once taken up every part of their shell had simply dissipated, filling them with a sense of peace.

Moreover, a low growl escapes them as they pull out their nail from their back.

It makes cute little noises, jumping up and down happily.

In response, Ghost stays quiet for a few seconds until a black, Wyrm-shaped mouth peeks out from under the chin, causing their head to be pushed back a little. Accompanying it was a tongue that looked similar to a Void Tendril, though it had a hooked tip, with spines on the bottom and two different sized white dots on each side of said tip.

Clicks and hisses were made from the Vessel, like it was baiting the Grub to come closer. In turn, the creature slowly reveals itself to be a mimic, inching foward as if confused and curious. When close enough, in unbelievable speed, they lunge forth and slash the damn thing in half like it was butter. After that, the mouth and tongue slither back into the mask, and they clear their "throat" before turning around to face their sibling, completely unfazed and roots going back to what they looked like the first time they met.

The journey was an interesting one to say the least. Through the climbing and jumping, they not once lose grip on their nail to keep enemies at bay. Other methods of deterrent were used too, such as swiping claws, tail whips, and even leg kicks. Safe to say, this was quite a strong little beast, yet gentle and graceful all the same.

Though there were instances of taking out a map for a moment to make sure they knew where they were going, it was most likely sparked from their sleepy forgetfulness that wasn't really much of a hindrance, at least for now. It can almost be considered impressive on how they could be so alert while being tired all at once.

Nevertheless, Ghost pulls the both of them up at such a fast speed, claws clutching onto the ledge as tight as possible while letting the tongue dislodge itself from the cracked rock it made, hiding it and the mouth once more. Then, the creature climbs up (albeit with some struggle), and once a good distance away from the hole, finally do they let themselves collapse, deep breaths taken, but still very much conscious.

Little Ghost has been to Deepnest many times, thou is used to the dangers and twists by now.

They had to take a step backwards to keep their balance, but they hug back just as tight. A purr can be heard emanating from them, tail slowly wagging side to side as the roots hung limp.

Their head suddenly snaps onto something behind the other, the roots now going from limp to spread out. Three more appear from the top of their head, the whole thing in a threatened pose.

Moreover, a low growl escapes them as they pull out their nail from their back.

A Grub?

It makes cute little noises, jumping up and down happily.

In response, Ghost stays quiet for a few seconds until a black, Wyrm-shaped mouth peeks out from under the chin, causing their head to be pushed back a little. Accompanying it was a tongue that looked similar to a Void Tendril, though it had a hooked tip, with spines on the bottom and two different sized white dots on each side of said tip.

Clicks and hisses were made from the Vessel, like it was baiting the Grub to come closer. In turn, the creature slowly reveals itself to be a mimic, inching foward as if confused and curious. When close enough, in unbelievable speed, they lunge forth and slash the damn thing in half like it was butter. After that, the mouth and tongue slither back into the mask, and they clear their "throat" before turning around to face their sibling, completely unfazed and roots going back to what they looked like the first time they met.

Anyways, we can go.

Do not worry, Little Ghost will make sure Sibling doesn't fall.

The journey was an interesting one to say the least. Through the climbing and jumping, they not once lose grip on their nail to keep enemies at bay. Other methods of deterrent were used too, such as swiping claws, tail whips, and even leg kicks. Safe to say, this was quite a strong little beast, yet gentle and graceful all the same.

Though there were instances of taking out a map for a moment to make sure they knew where they were going, it was most likely sparked from their sleepy forgetfulness that wasn't really much of a hindrance, at least for now. It can almost be considered impressive on how they could be so alert while being tired all at once.

Later in the travel, the Vessel tries to strike up a conversation to pass the time.

So how did Kin manage to escape from the lair?

Upon hearing the question, however, they winced.

Thy would ask how but, suppose it is best left unsaid.

Something else lighter in curiosity, does Sibling know of Void Speak?

Me and mine kinship speak it, none other than beings of Void or wield Void can hear it.

They slowly shake their head.

Ghost is not sure if it can be taught, but thy is glad such is still heard.

The Speak is a tricky language for sure.

A bit more adventuring, and soon they reach up below a large opening, some mushrooms spotted in the distance.

But they noticed that their sibling is not jumping. They look at them, quickly noticing their exhaustion, eliciting a worried frown.

For a bit, yes...

After the other jumped off, they stand up, using their sibling's shoulder as a crutch. They start groaning and holding their head, feeling a little dizzy from the whole ordeal.

What's wrong with them? They usually don't get drained this easily, right? Is it solely because of their drowsiness, or simply because they hadn't done a task such as this before?

Knight has never done this before...

The monster looks up. It seemed so high, higher than the other openings. Or was that just their vision?

Regardless, they take a second or two of staring until an idea enters their mind.

...Sibling, come behind and grab mine horns tight as you can.

They position themselves to just barely seeing the top edge in front of them, then lets their mouth and tongue appear again. The teeth widen as much as possible, pushing their mask back way more than last time. The tendril quickly shoots out and lodges half of its "head" into said edge like a grappling hook. Given how high above the pit is, the added length to the appendage was, to put it lightly, quite absurd.

Nevertheless, Ghost pulls the both of them up at such a fast speed, claws clutching onto the ledge as tight as possible while letting the tongue dislodge itself from the cracked rock it made, hiding it and the mouth once more. Then, the creature climbs up (albeit with some struggle), and once a good distance away from the hole, finally do they let themselves collapse, deep breaths taken, but still very much conscious.

Wide eyes take in the many mushrooms around them, wonderment filling their gaze. The sights, the colors…it’s nothing like Deepnest.

Ah, there there...

Sibling is free...

They purred and purred, truly happy for their relative. Then, a little (slightly awkward) nuzzle.

It takes them a long while to calm down, and when they finally do, they look up at them with a weak smile and watery eyes.

It was a wide, completed map, names labeled and everything, and they showed them the travel from where they are currently to the town above.

A stare straight ahead, then a facepalm with a grunt of self-annoyance.

The Vessel looks at the map, but they can’t seem to comprehend it. They still didn’t know how to read maps—so all they had was just their sibling’s word.

Knight just remembered Stag Stations.

There was one in Deepnest that could take us up there...

Rest assured, me and Kin will not go back down there.

One isn't too far off anyway.

They point their claw at Queen's Station before putting the map away.

Don't worry, Vessel has been through much worse.

Even though the Deepnest Vessel doesn't know exactly who Ghost is, there are some features on them that are quite...strange.

More strange, they stumble a bit and have their head down as if sleepy, but is holding their own lantern with no issue.

The Vessel sees Ghost approaching in the distance. At first, they contemplate running and hiding, fearing it was another odd creature of the caverns when they realize the approaching figure more closely resembled a sibling—like Chip was. Chip said that that evil creature was already gone, but the unusual features this approaching sibling bore was still a cause for suspicion and trepidation.

Their appearance was normal, save for a few oddities: Two pairs of black roots on the sides behind their head, curved legs with three sharp toes, and a tail with six pale markings on the top and some strands on both sides.

The analyzing didn't go unnoticed however.

Is Sibling ok?

“Yes…am okay. M-Mostly…” They answer, but their hands and fang were shaking lightly.

Dirtmouth is a town way above here.

A very peaceful town, even if not many bugs live there anymore.

The Vessel quietly ponders this. They don’t know what a town is, but if bugs live there, and if it is somewhere above this place, it had to mean it is outside these caverns.
