especially when she and stratt are regressed together, stratt tries to tough it out. she's not a baby, she can handle a ghost story. but ilyukhina's gritty descriptions of things with hundreds of teeth and dozens of legs lurking in the vents and clattering around — the ship is constantly creaking, how could anyone tell what's a normal noise and what's The Creature — are starting to get to her.

grace has to step in because stratt doesn't want to admit to being freaked out. gently points out that scaring people is a lot more fun when everyone's having fun, and maybe we can lay off the monster descriptions, or tell a funny story. or, if olesya really really wants to share something spooky, she can ask him or carl—

- Stratt does not become a caregiver so much as she decides to become one. She assessed the situation, determined it was necessary, and committed completely. That's just how she operates. - Stratt does not ease into caregiving. She approaches it the same way she approaches everything - she identifies what needs to be done and she does it. The softness comes later. It surprises her more than anyone. - She is not naturally gentle but she is naturally precise, and it turns out that precision looks a lot like gentleness when it's applied to someone small and tired. She always knows exactly what you need. She just doesn't always know what to call it.

- For all of the coldness she likes to project, she is soft at her core. - Stratt does not do empty comfort. She won't tell you everything is fine if it isn't. What she will do is sit with you in the middle of the hard thing and stay there until it passes.

"Is it going to be okay?" She pauses, honest. "I don't know. But we'll handle it." Somehow that's better.

- Stratt spends an ungodly amount of money and resources to give you the best life possible. Whatever you might want, you get.

- She's very efficient in how she cares for you - if there's a problem, it's immediately addressed.

- She is not soft in the way other caregivers are soft. She is steady. There is a difference and her little learns it quickly. Soft bends. Stratt holds. - Stratt learns your routines the way she learned logistics - methodically, thoroughly, without making a fuss about it. Within two weeks she knows your preferred snack, your tells for overwhelm, and exactly how long you need before you're ready to talk after a hard day. - Stratt learns your preferences with the same focused attention she would apply to any mission-critical variable. Your preferred snack. The blanket weight that helps. Whether you need noise or quiet. She catalogs it without making it feel clinical.

- Rules in Stratt's house are explained, not handed down. Every single one. She will tell you exactly why and exactly what the thinking was. She considers this basic respect.

"But why?" "Because if you skip lunch your blood sugar drops and then everything feels worse than it is. Eat." A pause. "...Okay."

- Stratt always has a plan. Including, apparently, a regression kit. Organized. Labeled. Restocked automatically. Her little found it once and didn't say anything for a week because they were so moved by the specificity of it.

- She keeps things running so smoothly that you don't notice until much later how much she was quietly managing. The snacks that were always stocked. The noise that always got turned down before it bothered you. The plans that always accounted for exactly how long you actually needed.

"How did you know?" "I paid attention."

- Stratt has absolute authority over every nation on earth. She now uses that same decisive energy to win arguments about whether it's too cold for a jacket. Her little never wins. The jacket always comes. - Her little falls asleep sometimes in the middle of her explaining something. She doesn't stop immediately. She finishes her point, tucks them in, and then sits there a moment longer than necessary before she gets up.

- She doesn't say "I love you" easily or often. But she says "you did well today" with such precise, unvarnished honesty that it means more.

- Physical affection does not come naturally to her and she knows it. She tries anyway. A hand on your shoulder. Sitting close enough that your arms touch. It gets easier. She notices when it gets easier. - She reads to you in Dutch sometimes, not as a lesson, just because some things sound right in her first language and she has stopped apologizing for that. - When you're little and scared, Stratt doesn't immediately try to fix it. She assesses first - what kind of scared, how bad, what's needed. Then she acts. It is surprisingly comforting to be that carefully looked at.

- Stratt does not lie to her littles. She will simplify, she will soften the edges, but she will not invent a comfortable untruth. You learn to trust everything she tells you because of this.

- If you do something brave, Stratt tells you once, specifically, and then never mentions it again. Somehow, that makes it mean more than if she'd said it a hundred times.

- Stratt does not baby-talk. Not once, not ever. She speaks to her little the same way she speaks to heads of state - directly and with full expectation that they will understand her. They always do. She is never surprised by this.

- Stratt remembers everything her little has ever told her. Offhand preferences or things mentioned once in passing. She never makes a show of it. Stratt just does it. It shows up as the right snack appearing or a small thing handled before it became a problem. Her little eventually realizes she has been paying attention to every single word from the very beginning.

- Stratt is extraordinarily difficult to rattle. Her little figures this out and finds it deeply comforting. There is no version of events that makes Stratt lose her footing. Whatever happens, she will already be thinking three steps ahead.

hello anon yes absolutely!! i love little eva so much... ♡

i feel like eva is an older regressor, usually leaning around 9 to 13

she usually goes completely quiet when she regresses. words are hard for her to put together

grace can usually tell she's feeling smaller cause of how silent she gets, picking at the loose threads on her clothes

with the weight of the entire world on her back, eva doesn't usually get a lot of time to herself, so her regression is usually pushed aside for other matters

it takes a lot of gentle needling and sad puppy eyes from grace for her to make some real time in her schedule to just be, without all the pressure of project hail mary and saving the planet and being earth's newest 'dictator'

when she's small, she likes reading picture books. grace tries to encourage her to play, but she spends more time organizing the toys then actually doing any playing

speaking of organizing, she loves ordering things. separates her toys over and over in different categories. sometimes grace can tell she's gotta regress when she starts fussing with her desk organization (big eva couldn't care less)

is not particularly entertained by plushies but she does have an emotional attachment to a raggedy little stuffed lion keychain a family member gifted her. it's always on her desk when she's big and always in her arms when she's small.

she's infinitely softer when she's small – once, after watching grace trip over something, she made him sit down so she could pat over his legs with worried eyes

likes listening to old records! it makes her feel calm. her perfect day in involves some quiet music, a pile of things to sort through and grace's reassuring presence next to her 🩷

grace is the perfect caregiver – he's patient, and kind, and doesn't get mad at her when she can't use her words or isn't interested in playing like other kids would. she likes him a lot

she might be a bit touch averse, but if you give her time she'll soften up and you might even catch her leaning her head against grace's shoulder while she reads.. don't point it out though! she'll get shy.

ough yes,, baby gracie on erid my sweet boy.. gonna tur this ask into a brain dump bc I cant be normal about this little baby;; with that said.

I do feel like his regression the first few weeks on Erid was HORRIBLE be it between the malnutrition and scurvy, everything hurt; nowhere was comfy and poor thing just couldn't do much aside from sleep and eat whatever nutrition puree Rocky and Adrian had come up with to try and help him with a very lengthy road to recovery.

Poor thing was worn thin, metaphorically and physically. But once he was [mostly] recovered, his regression stabilized [not really] but I feel he'd be padded during any form of his regression; as he tends to focus in on one thing and then just forget to use the bathroom. Poor thing had so many accidents before Rocky helped.

And while he's much younger than Eridians, I feel that Rocky is sure to make it known while Grace is a pebble in their years, he is an adult on his planet! Which, does complicate his regression to some Eridians who may not be aware what regression is.

Which of course Rocky was quick to explain to the best of their abilities. "Savior Grace sometime pebble, human brain go fast fast fast, this help Grace brain slow."

But once that settles in? Grace can quite literally regress whenever or wherever he wants as long as he's not actively teaching a class or working on something with Rocky, Adrian or Simon.

Now... does that mean he regresses when he should? No, he is STUBBORN about it. If Rocky or Adrian picks up on Grace feeling "pebblish" in their words, they're quick to move him to somewhere where he won't be harmed by any of his research.

While i'm on that track, Rocky noticed Grace slept best when he was regressed. [be that because he hadn't slept the prior 3 days before] but he does try his best to get Grace regressed before he sleeps.

He'd also have a Granbull, Primeape, and Hitmonchan.
