Keith scrubbed past the bubbles on his arms, bottom lip sucked between his teeth in concentration. Warm water splashed as high as his elbows, soaking his shirt and the counter with the waves he created.
Hunk passed by to press a kiss against the nape of his exposed neck, his ponytail having been tied up and out of the way at the apex of his skull. His nose scrunched up at the tickle, and he splashed Hunk with a few suds, catching a nearby Shiro in the process.
Shiro leaned away, a startled laugh escaping into his coffee. Steamy hazelnut flooded his nose, and he cracked a smile as he regarded the two of them.

Only to release a hissed breath as the numbers blinked back at him. Serena had a mild fever, and it was only Keith at home to take care of her. Both Shiro and Hunk had been invited on a conferenceâ and Keith had, of course, been invited to come too, but he adamantly refused to leave Serena with a sitter.
âShiro is the better pilot of the two of us.â Heâd said. âPlus, he has the whole⌠smiling thing.â
Hunk had quirked a brow at him, in the way the Keith knew he found what had been said funny, but didnât want to smile at it because he was being serious.
âWeâll be fine.â He promised, like an idiot. âCall me when you land.â

A balled up scrap of paper shot past the overflowing trash can, but Hunk was too focused on actually getting this draft done rather than the cleanliness of his workstation. Which⌠was very unlike him.
Keith looks up from his books for the millionth time that hour at the noise, and he has to blow a piece of hair from his eyes in order to focus on the tense, curled up form that was Hunk at his desk.
The two of them were doing their schoolwork togetherâ not because they had the same classes, but because they generally could keep one another on task and focused until they were finished.
Shiro, for once, had nothing else to work on with them, and so had chosen instead to nap until they woke him up to go out for a night on the town. (âNight on the townâ meaning a walk through the park, and maybe buying a snack or two from a street vendor while they held hands and canoodled). He was curled up behind Keith on the bed, a firm, knocked out barrier between him and the plaster wall.
Hunk gnawed on the end of his pencil, engraving it with his teeth. His fingers tangled in his bangs, and he gripped them so tightly that Keith was sure heâd give himself a few bald spots if he kept it up.
âYou okay?â
The engineering student jerked forward, startled from his own thoughts. He glanced over his shoulder to Keith, who had shut his book and began climbing off the bed. He wore a black hoodie that Hunk faintly recognized to be his own, and he had most of his hair tied back in a ponytail that did little to keep his hair out of his face.
Hunk leaned back in his chair and Keith loomed over him, casting a shadow across his eyes. âIâm⌠good. Fine.â He said, just a touch irritated. âJust gotta plan this stupid machine out so that I can actually start working on it before Iââ He sighed again. âFail, or something. I dunno.â
Keith frowned, and Hunk pointedly looked away, back at his work. âIâm fine. Go back to studying.â
Fortunately for Keith, he didnât really need to study. He mostly did it to spend extra time with his boyfriends. And so, instead of ambling back towards the bed and leaving Hunk to needlessly stress, he pulled the pencil from Hunkâs mouth and tossed it in the trashcan behind him.
âYou need a break.â
âKeith.â Hunk pinched the bridge of his nose, and Keith could tell that he was this close to crying by the way his eyes wrinkled in the corners and his fingers trembled. âI really need to get this done today, or else Iâll never pick up my thought process again. And then Iâll have to start all over, and thatâs hours of work just gone down the drain.â
Keith crossed his arms, leaning over to look down at the paper that was stressing Hunk out so much. It looked like it started as a basic layout for an engine, with a few notes here and there to adapt it for different vehicles, but most of it had been angrily scribbled out with thick black Xâs, and half of it was torn and probably in the trash.
He hooked his hands against the back of the office chair and pulled Hunk out of his desk. âYou need a break.â He repeated. âYou know how you get when youâre stressed out.â
Before Hunk could protest and try to drag himself back towards his work, Keith whistled sharply, startling Shiro awake.
Shiro jerked up, and Keith offered him an apologetic wince. âSorry. Can you help me with Hunk?â
Hunk groaned, burying his hands in his palms. âIâm fine, guys. Go back to sleep, Shiro.â
Shiro only needed to take one look at Hunkâs face, though, to figure out what was more important. He rubbed sleep from his eyes with the back of his hand and rolled off the bed in order to pull the covers back. Keith, in the meanwhile, gathered all the trash and stuffed it in the trash and out of sight before he shooed Hunk from his chair and onto the bed.
âWhatâs going on?â Shiro asked, voice thick with sleep before he cleared his throat. âDid something happen?â He pulled Hunk onto the bed, and the latter reluctantly went, only with a bit of gentle prodding from both of his boyfriends.
âNothing happened.â He grumbled, and Shiro opened both of his arms to offer a warm hug. Hunk took it, burying his face against Shiroâs shoulder.
Keith climbed in behind Hunk, grabbing the blankets to swathe them completely until they were in a comfy cocoon of duvets and snuggles. He pressed himself snug against Hunkâs back, wrapping his arms around his middle from behind in order to squeeze him in a firm, grounding hug. He didnât need to look at his face to realize that he was probably crying by now, but Shiro was probably gonna be soaked by the end of it.
Shiro didnât complain at all. He was probably more asleep than awake, honestly, but he played his role perfectly. He gently shushed Hunk and let his fingers rake through his hair, gently pulling out the tangles Hunk had left there.
âItâs gonna be okay, Hunk.â Shiro promised. âIâll help you study, after this.â
Hunk mumbled something that Keith couldnât catch, but Shiro began to laugh.
âYouâre not gonna fail, babe. Youâre too good at this, and Iâm sure your professor knows it too.â He yawned, burying his face against the crown of Hunkâs head to press a kiss against it. âJust take a breather for a second, okay?â
Keith felt Hunk nod, and he silently let out a relieved sigh.
Shiro was much better at comforting Hunk with words than Keith was, even when he was half-asleep, and Keith was ever so grateful for that. He reached over Hunk to find Shiroâs hand, squeezing it tight.
Keith pressed forward to place a kiss against the curve of Hunkâs shoulder, and Hunk relaxed even more. Like this, Keith could freely bury his face against Hunkâs back and listen to his heartbeat from there, and how it began to slow down from its panicked state, to a calmer, steady beat.
Keith and Shiro had full faith in Hunkâs abilities, and they knew that Hunk did, too. He just got too wrapped up in his mind sometimes, was all.
Lucky for him, he always had two people who would be there to step in and pull him back, and to welcome him with a big hug and a nice, comfy bed. Heâd be just fine.

Early September
It was morning when Shiro woke to the soft noises of their fussy child, bundled up in soft blankets in her bassinet.
He rubbed at his eyes, stifling a yawn as he rolled over in bed to watch her. She had been adopted not even a few months prior, but Shiro was head over heels in love with her from the very first moment sheâd peeked at him behind half-opened eyelids.
Her eyes were a warm brown, bigger than the moon and more expressive than the ocean. And she had the roundest, most perfect nose that scrunched up whenever she was hungry, like it was now. Her cheeks were so unbearably chubby and round that Shiro often found himself pressing against them when he hugged or burped her.
She made a fussy noise again, and he quickly rolled out of bed before the other two occupants could wake.
