Owen stood on the outskirts of Oakhurst, it had been three days since Shelby was turned, honestly he was isolating himself from the town to the best of his abilities. He spied Shelby entering the woods, moving to right behind her.
"Hey."
He said as he let her become aware of his presence.
"How are you doing?"
Shelby was actually caught off-guard. "Hi, Owen." It was Owen. Out of the three other vampires, he was the one she knew the least. Always so silent... yet there was a hatred, too, as if he carried a great pain within him... she wouldn't know.
She might ask later.
"Your footsteps are so quiet, I couldn't hear you!" She smiled at him. Perhaps there was a chance of getting to know him better?

Owen didnβt quite anticipate bumping into Shelby a couple days after the incident. He would never admit it but heβ¦ missed how close and familial they were.

πΎhelby had been avoiding Owen, actually. And Pyro. Honestly, Shebly only wanted to be around the two others that missed Avid, and besides, the thoughts swirling in her mind towards Owen weren't... friendly. It was probably for the best that they were drifting apart.
If there was anything to drift away from to begin with.
"Hi, Owen. It's fine." Shelby replied back, eyes averted, looking as though she wanted to get as far away from the conversation as possible. But his quietness was unprecedented. She never expected anything but tolerance from him, anyway.
"...Are you... just going to stand there?"

"Well, I was going to ask how things have been, catch up a bit. It's been... Quiet in the manor."
Owen began he looked away to the side. He didn't want to come out and say he missed it. It was roundabout. He did miss the closeness.
"Scott's been in the crypt downstairs a lot more recently. I heard him and... Pyro retrieved his body. I guess it makes sense to keep him out of the reach of the humans who would desecrate or experiment on his body."
He didn't want to mention the name. He didn't regret his action of killing Avid, no... he did regret the consequences of doing it.
"Pyro's quiet too. Both of you are, and it's rather unnerving. I asked Scott about it. Scott simply told me that 'it's something only a sire and their fledgling would understand.'"
He took a step away from Shelby though.
"But I can leave. I didn't mean to bump into you, so I apologize."
Isolation. That's what he felt. The family he grew to appreciate, undone by his actions... If he hadn't accepted Louis's proposal of turning maybe he wouldn't be... He turned away from Shelby, keeping his back to her.
"...If you want to talk, I guess we could." She called to him.
Shelby did like Owen. He was her family, after all. Even after what happened, what they β Pyro and Owen β did to him...
"Oh, I see."
But he was the one who said that they were family. ...And he was also the one who made sure there could never be a familial bond between them ever again. But maybe, talking would make some things better.
"It's probably for the best, keeping Avid away from the others." Pyro, too? Pyro retrieved his body, of all people? Huh. Scott must've done something.
She sighed. "Scott's right. I'm only quiet because..." Avid.
"...Well, I'm grieving." Thoughts, thoughts. All these thoughts that somehow always end up circling back to him, she didn't want to think about it. And Pyro's silence might've been a good thing.
Maybe those two were both... feeling guilty for what they did? Shelby didn't make any move to walk away from him, but she didn't come any closer, either.

πΎhe couldn't move. "A-Abolish..." Shelby was cornered, and Abolish's intentions were clear. She was about to die, but she didn't understand β she never hurt anyone, never killed, never did anything wrong. She turned Avid, sure, but she did it for a noble reason; she helped him. She was good, she was still a virtuous person β her identity as a vampire never hindered that. And surely, Abolish knew this too? Although the two of them never spoke, their relationship was not that of friends. They were more or less enemies. But she didn't want to die. And she wanted Abolish to see that they need not be on two opposite sides β and that Abolish could be someone she'd befriend. "Let's talk about this." Her body, covered with cobwebs, silver surrounding her, shook with nerves. Shelby was scared, admittedly, for what was going to happen next.

β± The young man had set the trap in hopes of catching one of the other vampires. After all, despite how he often came across, he was well aware of what a good vampire looked like and what a bad one looked like. So when he found Shelby caught within the cobwebs and the silver blocks, a soft sigh left him as he stood before her. Instead of killing her, he lightly rested the silver axe against his shoulder as he took out his pocket watch.
"...You have exactly five minutes to convince me... I know your not a bad person Shelby..."
He did, he had been watching everyone, whether they knew or not. He had been silently observing, taking notes and writing down thoughts about each and every person who had come to Oakhurst; when they became vampires and what they did during there time as a vampire. After all, it was good to keep a log of everything that he had witnessed. He'd start the timer once he was done talking, he carefully pocketed the watch as his dark gaze focused on the woman before him once more.
"But standing by while they hurt and kill people... And a bystander who does nothing... is just as bad as those who cause harm."
He gently hit the top button on his pocket watch as he shifted his weight before moving to put the axe down so that center of the staff was perpendicular to the ground. He truly hoped she would be able to plead her case... after all, he knew that not all vampires were bad. Hell his lord, his mentor and adoptive parental figure was a vampire. And he knew a few vampires among the ranks of the Shadows that he got on with. He just hoped he was right about Shelby.
"Your time starts... now."
"It's not... e-everything we do has a purpose, Abolish." Shelby started. "What they do, I mean. Everyone we turned, it's better for them. Like Avid, I needed to help him from... that... thing... that monster he would become if I didn't turn him into a vampire. Everyone's happy."
Shelby hoped her words had their intended effect on him.
"Yeah, Drift, Cleo... oh and β Apo... deserved it." Yeah, okay, mentioning Apo probably wasn't the best move. But they still did it for a reason, right? A good reason. To protect themselves...
"And I know you never wanted to get mixed up in this business. None of us did... but I'm happier than ever, really. I have a family." She looked up at him, determined.
"You burned the forest, we merely burned the walls of Oakhurst. I don't... see the evil in that."
Shelby didnβt want Abolish to be someone she was supposed to hate.
"Everything would be so much simpler if you just joined us. Or if not, left us alone. We won't hurt you β I won't hurt you if you leave us alone." She failed to mention the vampireβs grand plan of another massacre.
