"Leave," Seungkwan huffed as he shuffled under his covers like a child who was forbidden sweets.
"Oh my god, 'kwan," You sighed heavily, "You're being too dramatic!"
As soon as those words left your mouth, he shot up from under the covers, hand on his chest. "Me? I'm being dramatic?" he whispered-yelled, pouting at the same time.
"Yes, you. I apologized about a million times! I thought we were on the same page."
"Page? We're not even in the same fucking library," He said before hiding underneath his covers again.

a notification appeared on your phone, making your room semi-lit other than the light emitting by the window caused by the moon's light. at the peripheral view of your sight, his name materialized itself on your phone, it was blurry but readable enough for you- how could you ever forget his name?
joshua hong sent a voicemail.
: "it's been a while, how are you? i miss you... so much. you're probably asleep at this time, good you should be, i believe it's midnight over there. it's not easy here (sigh), honestly, i dunno if i can continue. i'm glad i have jeonghan here, but still... i wish you were here. text me if you see this... or call me when you can, love you."
amidst the stress from projects and tests, hearing his voice somehow makes your day easier-less overwhelming. ever since he moved out from l.a. it's been difficult trying to converse with him, he's been busy, a lot more busy than before, and that's when you realized you had a lot more time than him when you find yourself at night, sitting on the floor waiting for his reply, just something from him.
joshua hong sent a voicemail.
: "i can't sleep, i've been having trouble sleeping ever since i left, weird? or maybe because knowing i don't get to see you just makes me sad. probably. (chuckles) i miss you, i miss your voice and hey! leave me a voicemail too, i can't be the only one doing the work haha! oh, gotta go. i might get caught, love you."
and you never once sent a voicemail back, too occupied by the comfort of his voice you go in a trance, daydreaming for the day you'll be able to see him again, knowing it'll take years.

years passed, more than you expected. joshua changed, he stopped sending voicemails, rarely sending messages. you changed, you stopped anticipating on his updates, stopped waiting on his voicemails.

There was no way he could be back.
You feel this is all part of some twisted joke the universe has set you up with. To bring back your first love and your first heartbreak and have him enter your shop. You wish you could say you hated Wonwoo, but you knew that was a lie. You missed him, and seeing him laugh with the same friends he had back in university brought it all back. He's swapped out his regular sweats with business casual. It made your heart swell with anticipation.
Still, it's safe to say you still were furious with him.
The rational part in your head said, "He's a new person; he's become just like his father." but your heart differed. Wonwoo was still... Wonwoo. The boy you loved since forever. But you had to move on. He had to embrace his destiny as a CEO and yours in Autumn's bookstore. He made his choice and you made yours.
"Here you go, that will be 35.50," Vernon spoke, delicately packing a customer's order. His voice managed to snap you back into reality. He turned his focus to you. "Are you ok?"
"Fine, better than anything. The best a person could be." the cashier merely laughed. "Fine. What a big fat lie."
Seokmin coincidentally just HAD to chime in. "Vernon, you will not BELIEVE what I found in the— oh, Y/nnie, are you ok!?" Seokmin gasped.
"Not you, too..." you huffed, shaking your head. Vernon handed you a hard candy from the treat jar on his desk, hoping the sugar would alleviate your worries. You popped the guava flavoured candy into your mouth. "I just— it's—" you struggled to find the words. "I feel sick. Like I'm going to vomit." you lied through your teeth. Fortunately, from how flushed you looked, the two believed you. You weren't ACTUALLY going to vomit, well, maybe it was partially true.
“Are you sure it’s not ‘cause of—" Vernon nudged towards Wonwoo and Soonyoung.
"You should head to sleep, you always overwork yourself." Seokmin sighed, patting your head. "There there, WOAH YOUR HEAD IS BOILING! Vernon, do you have an egg?"
"I got quail, does that count?" Vernon nonchalantly brought out a rack of speckled eggs from underneath the counter. A voice interrupted before you could interrogate Vernon on using the desk as a pantry.
"Y/n!"
Everybody turned around, and the wave of nostalgia crashed upon you. It was Soonyoung, and behind him was Wonwoo. Soonyoung was always the most approachable one in the friend group and, frankly, the least business-savvy. Whenever you and Wonwoo would study together on the campus library, Soonie would ALWAYS find a way to interrupt.
"Soonie! It’s been a while!" you smiled. Fortunately, Soonyoung was the least of your concerns. It was his brooding friend that followed him that occupied your mind. You wanted to hear Wonwoo's voice after all the time spent away from him. You wanted to throw your arms and hug him, like old times. But all you could do was fantasize.
"You mean it’s been too long! The whole campus was worried when you left," Soonyoung filled in for you. You smirked to yourself. You knew that they all could care less about your disappearance had it not been you were an academic weapon. "They thought you were expelled. From your uniform, it looks like you work here," Soonyoung gushed.
"I run this place, so, yep, living the dream!" you smiled. The words "I missed you, Wonwoo," lingered in the air. "What about you?"
"I'm working at a school now! I teach dance and humanities, and, actually, I almost forgot! We are doing a group reading session on Jane Eyre, but I kinda lost mine." Soonyoung laughed. You smiled back at him, and being the ever so wonderful owner, you personally guided the two to the classics section of the store.
You wanted to talk about your newest favourite authors, your upcoming projects, but most importantly, you wanted to be alone. With Wonwoo. You knew he was paying attention to you, even if he wasn't expressing it vocally. You felt the hard gaze of his eyes following your figure and the small smirk appearing on his face when you cracked a joke.
He still liked you.
"This is such a pretty book," Soonyoung awed at the craftsmanship of the cover. "I'm definitely not loosing this one. I'll tell everybody at work about this place!" he smiled, giving a playful thumbs up. Score! Securing a new demographic!
Soonyoung scurried off to the cash register, and Wonwoo gave a small nod of acknowledgement. It was just you two now. In the classics section. It didn't help that the shelves were close together, so close your shoulders kept on bumping into each other.
He finally spoke up.
"You know, I never thought I'd see you again."
God, you just loved the sound of his voice. Why must it's sound still hold such power over you?
"I thought you'd erase me from your memory, after rejecting me. I must have humiliated you for calling you out on kissing me." you scoffed. Your eyes adverted from his. Now they were staring at you, directly. He could see just how nervous you were, but also, happy?
"I'm not here to continue a fight from the past." Wonwoo replied. "I merely am here for my friend, to buy him a new copy of Jane Eyre."
"Knowing you, you probs scolded him for loosing it before coming here." you teased. Wonwoo chuckled. You quickly changed the subject, trying to not let his laugh mess with your emotions. "I don't mind if you hate me. In fact, I don't care!" Another lie.
"And here I thought we could both be adults," he said. "I didn't want to reject you, you know."
You scoffed at his answer, although from the corner of your eye, genuine emotion crept from him. Was that sorrow? No— he was manipulating you! Years after you severed contact, he returned the second you thought you could re-piece your heart. Better and shinier than ever. But did he have that in him?
"Some things take ages to mend, Jeon. You don't know how much pain I've been in without you. I hate you." The last words must have seared deeply into Wonwoo's mind the way he choked on whatever smartass sentence he had. There was an eery silence that filled the classics section. Reminiscent of the time he kissed you, and the time you knew more than anybody that it would be the first and last time you would feel so much love and fear for somebody.
"I wish you all the best in your endeavours." He bluntly responded, before walking off to reunite with Soonyoung at the cash register. You snapped your head to face him desperately to have the last word, but your rage ruined any chances of forming a coherent thought. Not only did he treat you like just some business associate, he didn't return your hate! Just once, you want to hear him say, "I hate you." Then it would clear the fog in your head that always wondered if you should have kept contact with him if things could have changed. Or maybe you wanted him to say "I hate you" to reaffirm yourself that you and him were never meant to be. That there was no room for you in his big life. His big life that was never meant for people like you.
Damn you, Jeon.
