having thoughts about my casper so lets make it everyone's problem
Casper was the first character I really established when making my listeners, I think this comes from how much I projected my nostalgia onto him? They are the personification of holiday party stories and sitting in the car with my dad as he talked about his life, and all the people i grew up around pressed into like hope
That no matter how hard it gets or how horrible things get whether what happens to you or your own choices that there is still the chance of getting better even if you have to fight for your life for it [also probably why I latched onto all the bittersweet extended universe stuff so much in general? These are very much so running themes in the text itself]
Like before anything else casper is forced to do things a little bit scared. They can't pretend to be brave to actually get better, and they feel like they've spent so much time in this stasis state and the clock just suddenly broke and hes realizing hes got twenty plus years to make up for that hes got to have as much of the world as he can right now and getting in his own way is only going to keep fucking him over
It's not easy, there's still that instinct, and he is an absolute mess in every way but I dont think that takes away from the joy of it
I think its really easy to get trapped in your sadness and your nostalgia, I think there's always going to be a part of me that wants to lay down in it and never get back up
But more then im scared of not being able to keep up with time that im suddenly realizing is passing, or all the horrors of being alive, im scared of rotting and I feel that in him
And I like that he gets to be happy at the end of it all. That as much as hes choosing to be okay someone chooses to love him and choose that for themselves too
Maybe there's a thousand universes where charlie never ran after them, or they didnt choose to force him to stay, but those aren't the realities theyre living in
