“oppa speak english, i can’t understand” fuck off and stop demand bigbang to speak english. you have more free time than them, go study korean!
Being a non-Korean speaker myself that pissed me off so bad. Every other comment was “oppa, why aren’t you speaking english? You should think about your international fans. What about us?” No, no, and no. I didn’t understand any of it, but just seeing his smile was more than enough. He looked relaxed and happy like he was really enjoying himself, I couldn’t wish for better.
It’s his native tongue and if you don’t like it, wait til it comes out subbed or don’t watch it live where it isn’t subbed. Not everyone speaks english and certainly not everyone speaks korean, so if you want to watch the broadcast and understand it, learn korean
Hi! I’m currently learning Korean and I use Talk to me in Korean. (start here)
They’re very straight forward with their lessons, but they’re also fun so it makes learning a bit easier. They speak almost exclusively in English in their lessons, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to understand it. They explain everything thoroughly and use examples. You can even download or print out PDF versions of the lessons. I copy them into a notebook because I learn language best by writing. If you use this method I recommend copying this into the front of your notebook in case you forget which hangul letter makes which sound. (I also recommend TenguGo Hangul (GooglePlay/Itunes) to help learn hangul. Its got tables and quizzes and history to help you learn. You can take the quizzes as many times as you need.)
TTMIK also has a youtube channel! There they do things like pronunciation guides for popular song titles (Sober), shows (Running man cast names), and even Kpop band member names (Exo)! They also have Story Time where they talk in Korean about a topic. (Escalators with Hyunwoo). My favourite series though is the radio show Hyunwoo does with Catch the Wave (as in the hallyu wave ㅋㅋ). In the most recent show they talk about different words for the subway, how to say that you’re sleepy, and talk about the lyrics to Its Okay by BtoB.
The point of this is, there is a lot of free material that you can use to learn Korean. I see a lot of complaining about “ooh my oppa never speaks english for us waaahhhh” “Why doens’t he think about the foreign fans blooooo” You guys need to remember that he’s foreign to you also. Why don’t you speak Korean to him once in a while? Don’t use “there aren’t classes I can take!” as an excuse. Be your own teacher, learn at your own pace.
행운을 빌어요!
