(It’s my interpretation of Slimeknight irl)

Cause if u think about it derlord KNOWS that Avery loves him, but Avery doesn’t know that derlord loves him back.

Derek never says anything in hopes that in the timeline that he’s in Avery will get over him but it doesn’t happen.

So now after his death Avery suffers his fate not knowing that the one he adored has loved him more than infinite knowledge itself.

The whole story is just a slow agonizing countdown until the flowers Avery coughs up ends up on his own gravestone.

Gift giving

Id say like Avery really wants to learn how to flirt with Derek right? But since Derek is always flirting w Avery Avery wants to flirt with him back

This causes him to search up ways that he can try attempting to court with his friend

But like lowk Avery makes the decision that he likes Derek so much that he decides to do all of the courting rituals right

He goes to a library and there’s a book called A Guide to To Avian Courting or smth how cute

But the librarian warns Avery like take some information with a grain of salt cause it’s pretty outdated

So the first one is trying to gift him something that allows aviators to know that their mate has the wealth to provide for them.

This causes Avery to set a plan to find an enchanted golden apple in various ways

What ends up happening is that Avery looses the apple cause his horse ate it and proceeds to give Derlord a piece of emerald instead (it’s not even a good one like it’s lowk chipped n stuff)

But at some point like he sees Derek holding it up to the light and admiring it and like cooing so Averys ok with it

Music (did u know Derek plays the piano???)

Derek plays the piano sometimes but only when he wants to right

And Avery believes that he could impress Derek with his piano skills by learning something right? Cause that means he also wants to be apart of Derek’s interests

So then Avery starts learning in secret and then one fay before he could even start playing Derek comes in and is like “what are u doing” and Avery is like, “I’ve been learning how to play the piano”

So then Derek is like “I wanna see” and then Avery starts playing ode to joy or smth and sure he’s missing notes but he’s doing a good job

And so Derek’s like “scoot over” and Avery does it without hesitation

Then Derek looks over and then says “play again for me?”

And when Avery does Derek joins in this time

Feeding

Basically derek gets really angry and defensive and feels hotter and was stuck in his room all day

This causes Avery to get really worried cause he hasn’t seen Derlord in a bit and starts freaking out

So when he sees Derlord basically dying in his room he starts to panic and take care of him and Derlord is being stubborn saying things like “I don’t need your help, you can go on ur own to places” and Avery refuses cause derlords really sick

So he takes care of him by washing him with a face towel and making soup

And while he’s making the soup he starts thinking about Derek and how much he’s done for him and Derek enters the kitchen and starts getting clingy

And Avery jokes around and is like “I thought u told me to go away.” And Derek’s is like “mmph… you’re so cool.” “Well thank you.”

And when the soups done he starts feeding it to Derek back in bed but he hesitates cause like that’s kinda intimate but Derek still eats off the spoon anyways

And once it’s done they lay down and take a nap

Preening

Basically after a small incident, Derlordes dominant arm ends up getting hurt and so he can’t use it for awhile

This causes his feathers to be absolutely ruined and a little off but he can’t do anything about it

Avery notices and asks about it and Derek’s like “yeah i usually preen but like I lowk can’t atm.” So Avery offers assistance obv

So they sit down on Derek’s bed and Avery starts moving his feathers around and preening them and it lowk feels so freaking good

Like Derlord be chirping and shaking all over and when he realizes he stops but then Avery’s like, “It’s ok, it’s cute” and Derlord starts doing it again

After a bit there’s like a pile of feathers and Avery keeps one

Showing off strength / dancing

Avery offers to play Skywars with Derek even though he’s like really hesitant (they re in duos)

Flying isnt allowed so theres commands to make sure that it doesnt work

And like theres another avian on the map and dereks lowk caught their attention and throughout the round avery starts to notice how the other dude is trying to flirt with derek, but he doesnt gaf and tries killing him

The guy lowk thinks that dereks flirting with him even though hes not because the way that derek attacks has been building off the way avery moves too so when avery is like “oh my god hes actually really good at this” the other guy is thinking the same way so hes responding to attacks on his own without trying and derek starts getting really frustrated (like hes really pompous n stuff its kinda annoying)

And avery gets really jealous to the point that he feels like a third wheel cause why is this man taking derlordes time

So as the battle goes on, derek starts giving up and proceeds to pull a potion of slowness and harm out of his belt, but before he can throw it, Avery grabs out his fishing rod and YANKS HIM BACK LMFAO

And derek is like, “what the heck? I literally had it?”

And the bird guy raises a brow

And avery stands in between them and is like “if you wanna dance, then lets dance”

And like they fight and avery lowk gets really aggressive and wins obv and like usually he cheers but in this round he ends up pouting and dereks like “???” and avery turns to him and is like ”good game lmfao”

The nest

Actually wait I lowk have a better plan

Basically when Avery reaches the last chapter it states that like after a bit if the mate recuperates they’ll start building a nest or smth

Atp Avery’s like hecka confused cause like he hasn’t seen Derek build a nest n stuff so he starts freaking out like does he actually like him back? He doesn’t know

But instead of panicking he goes outside and starts messing around and training for Skywars matches a bunchies

And while he does that Derek appears and scares the living daylights outta him he turns around and nearly stabs him

And like Avery’s like “holy shoot I thought u were a mob for a sec” and like when he looks he notices Derek wearing his hoodie and another pair of his Sandles

And Derek’s like “what’s got you so stressed?”

And Avery’s like “nothing.” Even though it isn’t nothing cause he doesn’t wanna pressure Derek into anything and like Derek knows smths wrong obv

And Derek is like “ok.” And it’s silent and walks towards away and sits down and opens a book

And the book is the courting one that Avery has been looking at LMFAO

Avery tweaks out and tries grabbing it out of embarrassment and D3rlord3 starts laughing and trying to get it out of the others grip to no avail

And he’s like “ONG WHERED U FIND THAT “

“On the kitchen table lol is this why you’ve been acting weird lately?”

And Avery starts tweaking out again and takes the book and Derek’s like “I’m surprised you followed a lot of the steps n stuff though this is pretty outdated”

And Avery is like “wait so I actually competed the whole ritual?” And Derek nods and Avery’s like, “but like, you haven’t said anything back”

And Derek’s like, “Dude I’ve been doing things back hello”

It’s been pretty subtle but yeah it turns out Derek has really been recuperating, just less loudly

Derek actually hands him a small gift (enchantment books) before Avery leaves to get the golden apple

He played the piano with Avery

Derek was trying to make food for Avery but ended up being too sick to reciprocate

Derek cleans Avery up by plucking out the leaves and twigs on his body before entering the house lol

Derek actually agreed to participate in a duos match with Avery so they could fight together

And then Avery is like “but what about the nest thing?”

And Derek’s like, “wait, you actually thought I was gonna build an actual nest?” And Avery gets hecka embarrassed cause like yeah he really did LOL

But Derek is like “I mean yeah, generations ago they used to but now a nest is more of a concept, not an actual thing.”

And Avery’s like “Oh whoops”

And Derek lets out an endearing scoff and is like, “Avery, there’s already a nest bro.”

And Avery is looking around and is like, “Where? Is it in the house?”

And Derek’s like “no silly.” Then turns Avery towards the house and says, “It is the house.”

It takes Avery a bit but yeah the way the house is built is more of a circle and both of their rooms are technically in the center of it.

And the funniest part was that yeah Derek has liked him for the longest time cause they built the house TOGETHER. RIGHT AFTER THEY MET.

Every block placed every plan made, that was THE HOUSE. IT WAS THEIR HOME LOL ITS THE NEST

So yeah turns out Derek liked him for longer he just doesn’t gaf

And like Avery lowk just leans in and kisses Derek cause what else is he supposed to do

And so like Avery’s like “so did I do a good job” and Derek rolls his eyes and is like, “you couldn’t have done a bad job even if you tried”

Anyways here’s a WIP of my interpretation of d3rlord3 irl :P

Cause I feel like Derek would be obsessed with F1 but can’t seem to wrap his head around DRIVING SOMETHING SO FAST

And then Avery just really loves driving but relies on instinct instead of strategy which leads him to falling back a few places from time to time

Wait I have a cuter idea

So like college AU Avery surprisingly gets hired as a tutor. Like he’s struggling a bit but he can help out cause he’s both a Botany and Computer Science major.

But like not a lot of people really understand stuff when Avery explains it so they don’t really go up to him. All he does is sit at the table while other people teach other people. He’s literally playing skywars and studying for a botanical class every time he’s at work LMFOAOA

At like some point he starts simping for Derek cause he looks kinda cute, but he doesn’t do anything. He does like stare at him a lot and at some point Derek notices and looks at him but Avery looks away in embarrassment.

All of a sudden at some point during work Derek comes in and is like “I need some tutoring n stuff”

And Avery is like “mkay I gotchu”

And like Derek PURPOSLEY MAKES MISTAKES so he can talk with Avery

Like there’s EASY mistakes and Avery manages to get it

And like when he gets back to see his roommate (let’s just make it Hastur lowk I don’t know anyone else he’s doing computer engineering) they laugh and they’re like “Derek? Like Derek Hutchkins?”

And Avery’s like, “The Dude with brown hair and glasses right?”

And the roommate is like, “Yeah. And you’re TUTORING him?”

And Avery’s like “yeah? What about it.”

And the roomate scoffs and is like, “Yeah sure, whatever you say bro.”

And like after a bit Derek and Avery start talking about stuff n stuff

It gets a lot subtle, so like Derek brings in snacks,

And they talk about classes. Or well Avery talks A lot about classes

And like at some point Avery sees a bit of complicated code on Derek’s computer but he just tries to hide it and Avery lets it go

Avery brings in flowers at some point as a gift. Ok well that’s not subtle but it’s Avery so like it’s ok.

And instead of sitting across from each other they start to sit next to each other right.

And when Avery complains that coding is getting harder Derek starts to subtly teach him how to do everything.

Like when Derek’s stuck on a question, he lets Avery explain it even tho it’s a hard topic for him. At some point it actually CLICKS for Avery and even he’s like “Oh wait I get it now” LOL

he actually gets really good at coding it’s actually wild.

And like they re both studing for a coding project and Avery manages to get an A. ON A CODING OROJECT

And like he celebrates and is like “holy shoot I managed to do this”

And Derek nods and is like “that you did.”

And Avery hugs Derek cause it’s been awhile since he got a good grade on a coding project.

And then his roomate lowk interrupts and is like, “Yo Avery, what’s up?”

And they turn to see Hastur bro.

And Hastur is like, “Derek? What are you doing here?”

And Avery is like, “I’m tutoring him bro.”

And like Derek turns away in embarassment.

And Hastur lets out a scoff and is like, “Yeah sure ok.”

And Avery is like, “Wdym????”

And the roommate is like, “Dude, he’s apart of the robotics club.”

And Avery turns towards Derlord with his brow raised

“I’m only a beginner.”

“YOU WERE THE 3X CHAMPION OF THE NATIONAL ROBOTICS COMPETITION.”

“Noo im not.”

And like Avery searches it up and Derek is literally THE FIRST RESULT THAT POPS UP

And Avery is like, “Oh my god.”

And Derek really tries he’s like, “Noo that’s like a different Derek”

And so Avery taps on an image and it’s LITERALLY DEREK.

“Oh my GOD.”

And poor Derek is like, “nah that’s photoshop-“

“that’s literally you.”

“Ok so it might be me.”

And like Avery is going through something cause bro the embarrassment of making mistakes around someone who does it for a living is genuinley wild. And like he thought HE was the one teaching.

It all clicks when like he realizes that Derek was the one tutoring HIM and not the other way around.

And like Avery is staring into space

And Hastur starts snickering but Derek glares at him.

And Derek is like, “Hey so… are you ok?”

And Avery just stands up right.

“… Avery..?”

AND THEN HE JUST SPRINTS OUT OF THERE LMFAOAOOAOAOAOAO

And so he goes back to his room n stuff and slams the door and he lowk starts tweaking out. Like he screams into his pillow and everything

So then he’s like “bro I actually embarassed myself so bad there.”

And then his phone was ringing and texting from Derek n stuff and he’s like “are u ok? U left all ur stuff here but ur roomates bringing it back.”

And like the more that he’s thinking about it the more he feels a little hurt.

Like think about it Derek was a liar at some point Avery feels like the man was being pitiful.

And he lets out a groan.

And so after an hour of just doing nothing except mourning n stuff Hastur dropped his stuff off and is like, “Dude you ok?” And Avery just groans in annoyance.

And so the roommate is like, “Sorry man I didn’t mean to expose him like that. But honestly I was wondering where he goes after clubs.” Or smth

And Avery’s like, “Yeah, I really shouldn’t have left him there.”

So then he opens up his phone to see one message from Derek being like.

“I’m sorry Aves. Can we talk?”

And so Avery lets out a sigh and is like, “Ok.”

So like the next day Avery gets there at the cafe early and starts tweaking out and gets worried cause like what’s Derek gonna say. Like bros probably gonna leave him n stuff or smth

So then Derek says hi and Avery says hi and then they order n stuff and then it’s like hecka akward right

So then after a bit Derek sighs and is like “Avery, I-“

“I’m sorry for ditching you yesturday!”

Derek blinked, “It’s ok I understan-“

“No! I was a coward and-“

“Avery hold on-“

“I got really embarrased because I was trying to impress you-“

“Wait-“

“And I feel like you were pitying me a bit because why would you help me anyways?”

Derek stared at the other in confusion, “I’m not pitying you.”

Avery crossed his arms, “Well it seems like it.”

“ I’m not.”

And then it’s like silent n stuff

And then Derek is like, “Ok well that’s not the reason why I did all that. I did it cause I wanted to spend time with you.”

And Avery is like, “What?”

“I didn’t know how to interact with you but when I noticed you were tutoring I decided to take the chance.”

Avery was about to speak but then Derek put his hand on his mouth.

“As we got alone I started to like the way you re always confident. I adore your little mannerisms. The way you tap your foot when you’re frustrated. Or even giving me random things that remind you of me cause they’re my favorite color.”

Derek signs sits back and puts his hand away, “I guess when I think about it I just like you. In general.”

And then Avery’s jaw dropped.

“Holy shoot.”

Derek nods and is like, “Yeah.”

And like Avery breaks. Like he’s hecka flustered, “I don’t- I dunno what to say.”

And like Derek grabs his hand and started fiddling with the others fingers, “You don’t have to say anything it’s ok.”

And Avery’s like in his mid tweaking out like his crush literally just confessed to him like be so fr

And then like Avery’s like, “Yknow I have like, a massive crush on u”

And Derek laughs and he’s like, “Yeah, I know.”

And Avery groans and he’s like, “was it that obvious?”

“You stare at me a lot, what else was I supposed to think.”

And he slams his head on the table in embarassment. But after a bit of calming down he looks up and is like, “sooooo what are we?”

Derek shrugs and is like, “Whatever u want us to be.”

And Avery hums and thought and is like, “We’re partners.”

“Partners?”

“Yeah, cause you’re my favorite person.”

And Derek’s eyes soften and he’s thinking about how sweet Avery is, “You’re my favorite person too, Aves.”

And then it’s silent but then Derek’s like, “Soooo… you still up for tutoring?” And Avery shoves him.

honestly they’re so sweet it makes my teeth hurt

also ngl I feel like Derlord would be more of a words of Affirmation person while Avery tends to turn to Physical touch/ quality time

and also a lot of people really like shoving them into college AU’s which I def agree with.

but I do also think that since college is so dang expensive I would take advantage of Derek’s knowledge and start selling it off (if he still has it) 😭💀

I also headcanon Avery as FilAm it just feels right to me 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️
