It’s hard not to find a blog or social media post we’re teachers are limiting their dissatisfaction with the profession. More teachers are talking about leaving than ever before. Granted this has been an incredible year coming back from the restrictions required by the pandemic; but truthfully has been discontent among teachers for a very long time. The discontent grew by 100 fold after schools reopened and districts had to figure out how to transition thousands and students + staff back into something that halfway resembled normalcy. And it hasn’t been easy. At. All. Although parents were given a firsthand understanding of the trials and tribulations of teaching their own children, the gushes and accolades for teachers waned almost immediately. Teachers bear the brunt of most things possibly wrong in education. As if teachers have any say-so when it comes to curriculum that is chosen or the instructional practices that are implemented. Teachers are held accountable for decisions that are made well above their heads and pay grades while little attention is given to the actual perpetrators of crimes against education. The teaching profession was once revered alongside professions like doctors, lawyers, law enforcement, firefights, and clergy. Now teaching has a bad wrap, and it isn’t fair. Weekends are spent preparing for the next week, summers are dedicated to professional development, and paychecks budgeted to include classroom resources. The moral of the story: blaming teachers is nonsensical. Seek out the real culprits and require them to take responsibility. Or don’t. Just stop bashing teachers. That is it. That is all!
