Facebook Marketing Basics
Of all the social media networks, Facebook is still the biggest and not going anywhere soon. I am no social media expert but it's hard to overstate the power of Facebook to reach your audience. If you have a brand or product that you want to get in front of people here are some good starting points for marketing on Facebook. Pages. Your brand needs a page. The first thing you'll need is a profile image and cover photo. Here are the graphic dimensions to use and here is a tool to create a basic logo if you don't already have one. Be sure to fill out as many of the business details on your page as you can, including hours, location, business description, and website. Those are the details that both search engines and your users will be looking for. The most important piece of any social media strategy is setting up and sticking to a consistent posting schedule. This is way easier said than done and I'm still trying to get better myself, the tool I always come back to for scheduling posts is called Buffer. Videos. Facebook is quickly becoming a video network to rival YouTube. What's especially powerful about videos on Facebook is that they load quickly and play immediately in user's feed. One thing I'm working on is putting more text in my videos. Facebook will autoplay videos but they will be muted. For that reason, many big publishers like Buzzfeed will put text over the entire video. If you want to make your own text based video you can try a video creation tool called Biteable. Boosting. Facebook has some of the most advanced advertising targeting tools of any network but the easiest way to get started with paid advertising on Facebook is by boosting your post. Boosting is pretty straightforward; you take a post that you've already published and then "boost" it to people outside of your followers for something like $10 a day for 7 days. I would recommend first building your page organically (by sharing with friends or existing customers) and then do some boosting after you have some followers. There is a ton to be learned about marketing on Facebook and a lot I don't know, if you have a tip for me please share it!
