ryan reaves was willing to be the only player walking out on tonight's game, as he was willing to be the only player kneeling for the anthem. i'm deeply glad that he wasn't, that other nhl players on his team and others stood with him. the fact that he would have done it anyway despite the not-low likelihood of it impacting his career.......players of color shouldn't have to take point on this. i'm glad they aren't alone now. but damn, i've never respected an nhl player like i respect ryan reaves, matt dumba, and jt brown.

nhl announcers talk about veteran players like they’re talking about an elderly dog they’ll be like “well, he’s getting up there, he’s slowing down, he’s only got so much life left in him 😔” and the guy in question is 31 years old

Here’s my thoughts: Keefe kinda screwed this up. He should have kept the big line till the third. Kept 11-34-16, 88-91-and whoever than in the third go 91-34-16. i feel like some people don’t understand why us hockey fans that support the blm movement get so excited when a player shows their support for the black community. not just posting about it on social media, but going to protests (peacefully and wearing a mask) and acts like tyler seguin, jason dickinson, robin lehner, ryan reaves, and matt dumba kneeling during the US national anthem. hockey is a predominately white sport with fans that are also mostly white. some of these fans and even the players themselves are racist. seeing these guys show their support and actually speak up instead of being silent in fear of getting judged by their teammates or fans is just amazing. if you look at comments on the nhl’s official page or any popular hockey page that has posted about standing in solidarity, you can see all the comments saying “keep politics out of hockey” or “just lost respect” and more unkind stuff. also, the players in this league who are poc, have been called slurs. k’andre miller for example. the black community has been oppressed for too long. human rights is NOT politics. THE CHANGE IS WHAT WE NEED. BLM ISN’T A TREND. HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE. thanks for coming to my ted talk 🥰✨🧚🏽‍♀️
