I kind of love how Tolkien writes about Sauron's admiration of Strength (with a capital S) leading him to follow Morgoth.
It ties so well with how Sauron branded Morgoth as 'the Strong' in Numenor, when he was promoting Melkor's worship. He tried to make everyone fall for Melkor in the same way that he himself did.
Also, Tolkien was really inspired, wasn't he? "...and fell with him down into the depths of evil". I adore the wording.
