My parents, despite their own personal issues, endeavored to create a peaceful home where the world's cruelty would not reach us children. I was brought up that if you have nothing nice to say the best response is silence even if another person is disrespectful. I was not privy to the insecurities and hardships of other peoples lives and therefore could not pass judgment by being disrespectful to them. It wasn't until I was approaching my 20's that I found the inner strength to rise above the pettiness and see people as human beings with their own wounds and walls. Despite my ignorance I try to be respectful and choose my words wisely, sometimes I stumble and get brought down. I'm human, I only hope to continue this journey as I meet and make connections with other humans.
