Little Things I've Noticed In The Hobbit
|1| The Pipe
There is a scene in The Desolation Of Smaug where the orcs came upon the rocks where the Dwarves were previously before setting off with Bard.
And before the camera focuses on the vile lot, we see a lone, abandoned pipe.
That pipe look familiar? I'd think so, because it is the very pipe we see Fili carrying around in An Unexpected Journey.
Notes: Yay! My very first blog after... A couple of years of making this account... Hehe... ANYWAYSâ
I made this because I didn't see any posts regarding this and well, I took my chance. Hopefully you learned something new! And I will continue to add to this if I ever find more and I hope you stick around for that! <3
|2| The Chest
In An Unexpected Journey, we all know the infamous "Nori, get a shovel" scene right? Where they were digging around the Troll Cave? Well take a good look at the chest Bofur, Gloin and Nori started burying.
You've looked at it? Good, keep it in mind. In Battle Of The Five Armies (did ya hear that splitting crack? that's the sound of my heart breaking by the mere mention of it. </3), when Bilbo and Gandalf finally arrive at The Shire, we see Bilbo carrying a certain chest.
Take a good long look at the details. This is also supported and backed up by what he stated in the very beginning of An Unexpected Journey.
As Frodo told his Uncle about what others think of his wealth, Bilbo replies, "It was one small chest, hardly overflowing... And it still smells of troll."
Notes: As I said! As soon as I found something new. Though I'm not quite sure if it is new considering it's been literal years and maybe people already knew this but still! Doesn't hurt to try for this who don't.
|3| The Light Of Eärendil
This particular thing is not all that obscure. I'm pretty sure most people know or have noticed this already but there will be some people who don't so I'm doing this for them.
In Battle Of The Five Armies, we all know the scene where Galadriel goes creepy dark sorceress mode on Sauron right?
Well, she actually had something to help her fend him off.
It can't really be seen clearly since a lot of light is obscuring it from view but if you look closely at her right hand, you will see a quite familiar figure.
Yes, she was wielding the Light of Eärendil. For those who don't know what that is, it is the gift Galadriel gives Frodo as the Fellowship was about to depart from Lothlórien in The Fellowship Of The Ring.
Notes: Nothing much to note, I said what I wanted to say at the very start of this post so...
Maybe expect another post coming later but for now, that does it for me.
|4| The Orc's Insult
Pfft ok I'm not exactly sure whether this is obscure or not but whatever, I find it quite funny.
You know that part in The Desolation Of Smaug where the Elves capture one orc hostage to interrogate?
Yeah and Tauriel was pressing for answers but then the maggot replied with :
... So either I'm reading between the lines too much or he had just subtly (and quite modestly, might I add) called her a bitch.
... I really don't think I have to elaborate further. đ
Notes: I don't know if anyone else has picked that up or I'm just looking into things too hard.
... But either way, it makes sense doesn't it? Haha you ain't that slick, you orc bastardâ
|5| Thorin's Armor
A little movie mistake I've noticed is that in The Desolation Of Smaug, when Thorin was first thrown into his cell in Mirkwood, he was still wearing full armor.
But the next we see him which was when Bilbo went to break them all out, his armor is gone which leaves him in his undershirt like all the others.
So did the guards come back to like... strip him down? Pfft, must've been awkward for everyone watching if that was the case.
Notes: Heyyy anyone missed me? It's been a long time I know but sadly I still am not gonna be posting consistently.
Though I do have some things to add to this thread of reblogs so I'm not gonna be gone just yet. Ohh have I missed it here though...
|6| The Pig
So we all know in The Desolation Of Smaug how Bofur was rushing out to find a certain weed for Kili's injury right?
Which means we all remember this little fella who was just minding it's business peacefully munchin' on dinner yeah?
Well do I have good news for everyone wondering if he survived the inferno provided by our dear Smaug. In Battle Of The Five Armies, we see a very familiar pig amidst the aftermath.
Good to see you survived, but sad to say you probably aren't alive right now at all... I'd wager pieces of you'd be roasting tenderly for most of the people to enjoy~
Notes: This was purely based on the fact that I think the two pigs in both pictures are similar based on the face patterns as well as the hair.
That's all I'm basing this off of so there's a chance I could be wrong but also, what are the chances of it being wrong right?
|7| Bolg's Signature Move
Okay I feel really dumb for just noticing this in my recent watch of The Hobbit and most of you already probably know this but this is my thread and I'm doing it for the ones who didn't notice.
So in The Desolation Of Smaug, we all know Legolas and Bolg's first showdown wherein which Bolg does this specific move to overthrow Legolas.
He catches his blade and tucks it under his arm and just holds it there which gives him a ton of opportunities. Smart but not very effective to do it on the same opponent, twice.
Especially if your opponent is Legolas.
But that's exactly what he did in Battle Of The Five Armies. Same stance and everything. Heh the fact that you thought it would work twice is hilarious. We all know what comes next after this don't we? Hilarious indeed.
Notes: Again I know this might not be the most obscure of facts but well I had just literally found it out so why not put it here right?
Oh but don't worry this isn't the last of them so you'll be getting more in a few days... As soon as I've recovered from this slight fever.
|8| Even Uncle Thorin Gets
Confused
We all know how confusing Fili and Kili's names are, hell even the brothers themselves get confused on which name belongs to who.
And so we've also probably had our moments where we accidentally switched them up. Well, it seems that dear Uncle Thorin isn't an exception to that.
As you can clearly see, the subtitles say Kili. And yes, I've also checked various sources, that subtitle isn't the only thing I've based this upon.
I've checked the script for An Unexpected Journey and it confirms that he does actually say Kili, it's the same for a transcript I found on theonering.net, both of which I will link so you all can see for yourselves.
But anyway, he says Kili but in that scene the brothers were separated right? Well Kili wasn't with the group that was getting an extra ride while the Stone Giants were battling.
Yeah it was actually Fili that was getting tossed around and who Thorin would've been concerned about. You can check for yourself, both of these scenes are right next to each other plus the fact that the brothers did get separated during the rumbling battle.
And since Fili was the one showed here, that further proves it. It's ok Thorin, it happens.
Here's the link to the other sources I've looked at.

Notes: This took a while to post, sorry bout the wait, school has me stressed rn. But after this I'm afraid the next one is the last...
It's still early to say goodbye again, I'll save it for the last post but I really am sad about it. Well, I'll eventually come back. I'm sure of that.
|9| "Give Him A Pony"
This is a scene we all know too well, after all, it's hard to forget Bilbo's discomfort at that time. Absolutely iconic from An Unexpected Journey.
And as you've gathered from the title, yes, it is indeed the scene where Bilbo and Myrtle gets introduced to one another.
But ever wondered who the two dwarves that picked him up were?
Based on the sleeves, it's easy to say it's Fili and Kili. But of course people will have their doubts and I won't blame you because how am I sure if that's Kili's sleeve? There's no doubt about Fili's though but if you're also not sure about him, I got evidence proving this right here.
This scene is right after Bilbo tries to refuse what Thorin said and is set right before the scene on top. It's really hard to see my point in this scene so let me crop it for you.
As you can see... despite the quality, Fili and Kili were the two dwarves behind Bilbo before he was picked up so I would say that's enough evidence to prove they actually were the ones who did it right?
Notes: Well... I'm sad to say this is the last thing I could offer you all right now. It's probably going to be a while before I come back again but it can't be helped.
I'm sorry but until we meet again, I bid you all a very fond farewell~
