tell me why this budgetless gay youtube series made for fun by a group of friends has the best editing and writing of anything i’ve watched in a year.
also tell me how this single scene can contain every single one of the top three most iconic lines in history.
THIS IS WHERE THAT FUCKING MEME COMES FROM?!!!!
The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo is HANDES DOWNES the best series of anything to have been made by anyone ever. You’ll laugh you’ll cry you’ll quote it forever and be silently disappointed that a person you thought would know it doesn’t know it & then you won’t know how to accurately convey HOW MUCH it means to you without sounding like you’re overselling something well anyway
it’s good you should watch it
everyone with heat intolerance deserves 100 million dollars directly out of a billionaires bank account
"I have never seen a cat that showed affection/love for it's owner" is the pet ownership version of "I don't believe in Female Orgasms they don't exist, after all, my wife has never had one"
The Fade kiss.
Okay, Lavellan's kiss was reckless and impulsive and quick and unsure and sweet. (And I think because she didn't have the words to tell him how she felt after 'you change... everything', she hauled off and kissed him instead.)
And then.
That first shake of the head with that little smile as she starts to turn away, unsure of herself. That's not a dude who is thinking any regretful thoughts at all. Solas here, is entirely feeling. To the extent that any thinking is going on at all, that is a dude who is thinking, 'oh no, you don't, I'm not letting you get away that easily', and that is the extent of the thinking.
And then The Kiss.
That kiss is a Kiss. His pride has clearly led him astray here, because Solas clearly has a good amount of experience in kissing, and has forgotten none of it, and is using all of that experience. Lavellan's eyelashes are fluttering open afterwards completely dazed, and who could blame her?
And it is not until the second headshake where he is regretful. That headshake is 'this was a bad idea and I shouldn't have done it' and yet he still goes back in for another one before he goes into his little song and dance about 'we shouldn't, not even here'. And then it's 'wake up', and you just know he's down in the rotunda pacing about it, rehearsing what he's going to say. (I wrote a thing about it.)
And then, of course, ruins all his carefully crafted plans of being distant and reserved with that smug little 'sleep well', because of course he can't help himself.

WIP WEDNESDAY
Tagged by the amazing @vhen-harel thanks for the tag!! I've been working on some silly stuff because I've been working on serious writings and needed to shake things up a bit. So straight from 20th Century Nug Studios: a dragon age 2 western, starring Terrance Hill as Bethany Hawke and Bud Spencer as Garrett Hawke.
Once they were outside, Bethany scowled at Garrett, and said, “You are such a stick in the mud. Did you see how Carver looked at that pretty girl?”
“And it’s none of our business.” he gruffly answered, “He made his bed when he decided to go straight.” Bethany harumphed and pulled her hat down over her forehead. They had only walked a few paces before their path was blocked by a group of four men and two women.
“Afternoon, marshals,” said the tall, pale, and blonde woman at the lead. “I’m Ms. Stannard, I’m sure you’ve heard of me.”
“Of course,” chirped Bethany, flashing a grin. The four men she had shaken down earlier glared at her from behind the women.
“Then allow me to present to you the possibility of a profitable partnership.” Ms. Stannard unfolded her wallet, counted a few bills, and held them out. “I think we can come to some understanding of how Kirkwall functions and will continue to function. What do you say?”
Bethany took the bills and counted them.
“A thousand dollars will close one eye, but what about the other? The chief has two eyes.” Bethany gestured at Garrett, who gave her a stony look for pushing her luck.
“Very well, two thousand.” Ms. Stannard pulled out more banknotes and handed them to Bethany.
“And two times two is four. What about my own eyes?”
“You drive a hard bargain, deputy marshal.” Ms. Stannard snapped her fingers and the young woman, also blonde, beside her jumped and unfolded a second wallet. “Thank you, Elsa. Four thousand dollars. Do we have an understanding, marshals?”
I'll leave the tag open to anyone who wants to show what they're working on and I beg you to go watch "They Call Me Trinity" and "Trinity Is Still My Name"
god the anchor deterioration was so good. remember how terrifying that was when you had no idea what was going on, and every once in a while the inquisitor would spontaneously hiss and flick their hand in first surprise and then pain, and then suddenly control over them would be fully wrested from your hands as they writhed and cried out in agony, and the music was a drumming heartbeat in your ears, and finally you could see it fragmenting and dissolving with shreds of it drifting off in the breeze like it was nothing more than vapor after a detonation. yeah.

"I can't believe humans would hunt the thylacine to extinction, humans are fundamentally evil" Hey, did you know that extinction was long thought to be impossible, and within 50 years of humans realizing that extinction via overhunting was a possibility it practically stopped happening? Did you know that humans are so desperate to prevent more losses that they're funneling millions of collective hours and billions of euros into helping other species? Hours and euros that could be spent on humans, and species on whom humanity's own survival does not depend? Did you know that due to an accidental introduction of rats, the Lord Howe Island stick insect population was brought down to 24 individuals and now there are tens of thousands of them?
This bug. This bug that, to most humans, is utterly useless, relatively gross, and completely foreign. Humans saved it because humans do not want to cause another extinction ever again if they can avoid it.

as someone in the field of ecological conservation, I can promise without a shadow of a doubt that people DO care. SO MANY people care.
I have to race to sign up to volunteer trips because even with dozens of spots available, people rush to devote their unpaid free time to helping the environment. these trips often fill up within hours. people care.
you will see a lot of bad news because that is the kind of news that people pay the most attention to. I know this more than you'd think from my optimism- not only do I live somewhere facing some of the most extreme ecological issues on the planet, I also spend my time studying the Bad Stuff every single day.
to see all of this firsthand and stay hopeful is proof enough that there IS hope. I promise there is good news, brilliant news, all the time. it's just less visible. but it's no less important or impactful.
imagine being a bird watching hot ones. you'd be like "wtf is 'hot sauce,' peppers don't do that" bc you don't have the neural receptors that cause a burning sensation if your tissues come in contact with capsaicin; you can stick your whole head in a ghost pepper no problem, so you'd think, wow these bald apes are full of shit they are faking a whole big physiological response to normal food for entertainment. weird. and then you'd be like wait, what are they eating? what are they eating?
[Transcript: Look, Penelope. Look. There is nobody out here. Nobody. Do you see that? Do you see that? Look- Look over here. There’s nobody. Look over here. There’s nobody! There is nobody out here. End transcript.]

obsessed with the way epic manhood is defined as being remembered– doing great deeds that will be the stuff of song for generations to come, dying in glory and being memorialized by tombs that inscribe greatness on the physical landscape– and epic womanhood is defined as keeping memory alive– helen weaving the images of men about to die, penelope weaving laertes’s glory into his shroud, cassandra raising the cry and andromache the lament for hector–
something about manhood as passive and womanhood as active in relation to memory is just… such an incredible way of framing things
oh and the way it’s helen who calls it κακὸν μόρον, ὡς καὶ ὀπίσσω ἀνθρώποισι πελώμεθ᾽ ἀοίδιμοι ἐσσομένοισι (a terrible fate, that we will become the songs of men yet to be)!
because helen wants to be a storyteller, helen is meant to be a storyteller. helen wants to encode men’s lives in tapestry and eulogy. that’s how we see her when she’s left on her own: striving for domesticity and simplicity, not fame. she is, in homer, the ideal woman, not just beautiful but devoted to her family, modest and hardworking, and so very aware of the responsibility of carrying the memories of those who die.
but her curse is to be the stuff of stories, not a storyteller. the very epitome of woman, yet cut off from the purpose of womanhood within epic.
#the ideal woman in accordance with ancient greek misogyny stays within the home and therefore has no reputation #helen is automatically disqualified by leaving with paris but also by having such extraordinary beauty that she has kleos #this would be acceptable for a goddess but not a mortal woman #helen is on the threshold of those two states as a demigod #anyway i love op’s point that women are expected to preserve the kleos of men while having none themselves!
