why is it that ppl hear "fetish" and immediately think "devoid of morals" like ur genuinely not making sense. ppl dont actually become inhuman and beast-like when theyre turned on, thats something we are told bc it aligns with christian patriarcal values, u know that right? desire isnt actually bad. it doesnt make you evil, or incapable of having/respecting boundaries
i got a response to this abt how men get horny and "lose their minds" and "causes" them to behave vile. i rlly rlly neeeeed ppl to understand that men behaving inappropriately when turned on is something they are *choosing* to do, and when you equate that to human nature you are enabling them and diminishing the seriousness of that choice

Surreal insect paintings by Nathiola on Reddit (Posted with permission!)

I’m watching that documentary “Before Stonewall” about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.
The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one “known homosexual”. The “known homosexual” is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.
So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there’s nothing wrong with him mentally and he’s never been arrested. When asked whether he’d take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows he’s gay, he says that they didn’t up until tonight, but he guesses they’re going to find out, and he’ll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like …why are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says “I think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.”
1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.
Despite the pseudonym, Dale’s boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.
Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson’s disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.
It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought I’d make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.
RATING: RELIABLE
you can listen to the clip of the 1954 interview here and find him on wikipedia here
Remember early on in the AI boom where people were asking if the same woman appearing in generated images all the time meant there was a "digital cryptid" and then it turns out that AI just inexplicably gets stuck on stuff and keeps making it over and over and

Text of tweet under the cut because it is loooong.
But... Stochastic Parrots.
Me: "Damn people are REALLY BAD at knowing when to tag their eyestrain art/images...either that or they just don't care about photosenitive epileptic people like me. I feel really sad now." Person: "But Allison, what if they just don't know or understand what qualifies as eyestrain and what doesn't?" Me: "You know what? That could be a factor...While it is always better to be safe rather than sorry (so YES people should always tag eyestrain even if they're unsure if it "counts" or not) maybe you've got a point?"
Anyways! HERE'S YOUR HANDY GUIDE TO WHAT CAN COUNT AS EYESTRAIN! I'm pulling this straight from the Artfight rules page about what needs to be labeled and filtered as eyestrain because it's VERY helpful and VERY accurate! I also know not everybody has an AF account and might not always have access to this handy guide, and this is an important resource; That's why I'm sharing it here! (under the cut)
PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY!!! THIS IS ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OTHERS!!!
by the way this is medical. this could save somebody from a migraine all the way to a seizure. this has always been serious. treat this seriously.

How they get barack obamma and joe bidden to say this stuff toigether
Based on what I've read, this year's exhibit largely focuses on the body. There's sections devoted to the Classical Body (real and fictional idealized beauty standards throughout history), the Abstract Body (how the body has been forced into the unnatural through fashion), the Naked and Nude body, “Diversity in Bodily Being” (differences in body types including Pregnant, Corpulent, and Disabled), and “Bodily Being in Its Universality” (focusing the structure of the body such as blood, bones, musculature, aging and mortality).
It's also going to highlight the question that has kept the Costume Institute separate from the rest of the Met which is "Is Fashion Art?"
"The Mortal Body"
"The Vital Body"
"Fashionable Ink"
"Abstract Body"
"Naked and Nude"
"Corpulent Body"
This year, for many reasons, I think the ratio of celebrities to influencers will favor influencers, and I think many of the influencers are more concerned with looking good/getting attention than the artistry. Considering the dress code and exhibit title are incredibly vague, I don't think most of them are going to do anything particularly interesting, or even really look into what the exhibit is about (remember the Garden of Time debacle?)
I'm expecting most people to not have read about the exhibit and just wear something vaguely artsy. Those who did read about the exhibit, I'm expecting to wear naked dresses. The irony of an exhibit celebrating the body and having a section on body diversity is not lost on me during one of the years where thinness has been the most celebrated.
The most interesting looks I expect to see are based on the literal body. Some are featured above. I'd love to see a group show up in the FW24 Robert Wun "Bone, Muscle, Soul" dresses
Also if I see anyone dress up as disabled, fat, or pregnant and they aren't, immediate shame list.
ETA: If someone is focusing on the "Art" part, I'd love to see one of these victor & rolf looks
