In the original Gold/ Silver/ Crystal versions, when you first battle your rival, their name pops up as “???”. The implication is that their name is unknown and you get to call them whatever you want.

I was not a smart child. When it was time to give them a name, I typed in “???”.

I went through the entire game believing this child’s name was three question marks.

really love imagining a bunch a kids and teens on their pokemon journeys staying the night on the couches and floors in the lobbies of pokemon centers, having long talks about their experiences and feelings sharing funny and scary stories and myths about legendaries and trading items and sharing TMs along with sugary snacks and pokedex chargers all while their pokemon are out of their pokeballs and all bundled up in blankets sleeping soundly next to their trainers while they stare up at the stars shining through the glass ceiling over their heads

It’s no secret that I adore the concept of assistance/therapy Pokémon, so I decided to explore the concept a bit myself and I thought of two Pokémon that would be very useful! First, Sylveon would work as courthouse facility dogs, they mostly assist children who have been victims of crimes or are involved in legal investigations. Sylveon can make people feel comfortable by grabbing their arms with their bows, it’d be very helpful for children. Second, one I didn’t think before but I realized would work quite nicely… Absol as guide dogs. Come to think of it, Absol can sense when there’s imminent danger, so not only they can be trained in the same way dogs irl are, but they can use their power to protect their companion even more by predicting danger and keeping their partner safe from it. After all, Absol don’t create disasters, they just predict them. So that’s it, some crappy sketches because it’s 5 AM.
