Not my normal content but this is something that has been peeving me off for years now and I would like to talk about it here.
Rentry and Editing spaces are becoming more and more inaccessible to disabled folk each day and its taking a toll on me as someone who's visually impaired and dyslexic in both spaces.
I've been using Rentry since 2023, I've been in editing spaces like Editblr and such since 2023, and every day the accessibility is getting worse and its taxing on me.
This problem is especially bad on Rentry and Rentry spaces. I've seen so many unreadable and poorly contrasted Rentries since forever now, and it's just gotten worse with metadata being added. White or very pastel text on a white background isn't going to be automatically readable just because you added a small shadow to it?? And don't even get me started on people not adding an E2R to their unreadable pages.
And with all the flashing edits and Rentries not having any sort of warnings??? I am personally not epileptic but I have many friends and family members who are and I have seen how it affects them. It's terrible. There's also people who are just sensitive to flashing lights in general without epilepsy. I dont get why some of you people just dont add warnings, it takes only a couple of seconds.
Do better. Keep disabled people in mind when you make Rentries or Edits. Add eyestrain, bright color, and flash warnings, add easy to read pages, OR just don't make poorly contrasted or flashy stuff in general if you don't want to do that! It's really not that hard to add a simple warning or easy to read.
If you need help on figuring out if something is poorly contrasted or not, use this website. I highly recommend it!
