His heart began thudding uncontrollably and his mouth almost immediately ran dry at the sight of the Gryffindor. Despite his extreme discomfort in Potterâs presence, Severus gave no indication that he was the least bit anxious. He glared determinedly at Potter, eyes dark. Severus immediately closed the book, not wanting to give the other a chance to vandalize his hard work. He held the book firmly, immediately stiffening. How would James even know what Severus had gotten on the last test? He hadnât bombed it, per say, but McGonagall was meticulous when grading and Severusâ messy, sometimes almost ineligible writing certainly wasnât helping him in any way. âAnd I suppose being the star of the Gryffindor Quidditch team certainly didnât assist you with your, Iâm sure, perfect marks.â Severusâ mind was scrambling for something to say, anything to make the Gryffindor leave as quickly as possible. His fingers twitched, aching for his wandâs contact. âThough, I donât understand the appeal; being the golden boy of Gryffindor is almost as prestigious as being a mudbloodâs house elf.â
âIt really didnât Snivellus, itâs sad to think that you are trying to come up with some sort of excuse on why I am better than you,â James knew the games Severus played, he knew it was all an attempt to get rid of him. His eyes looked down at the otherâs twitching hand and sighed loudly. âIâm the best in transfiguration and you know that,â James was about to continue his compliments about himself until he heard the word âmudbloodâ come out of the other maleâs mouth. âMudblood? Really? I canât wait till Lily hears about this, how would she feel if her precious best friend--donât see how you could have friends--hears about this?â he squinted his eyes knowing full well Lily was more powerful than a hex to use against Severus. âI knew you were a greasy friendless git, but I didnât think youâd be this rude to your crush.â
