i was bizarrely productive and wrote not one but TWO fics for my yuletide recipient this year, mostly because (a) at one point i had both half-finished and couldn’t decide which i liked better, and (b) i discovered the art of “not writing 50% of the scenes you’re thinking of writing” (the key word this year was “restraint”. lol.) so... happy 2017!

May I ask why you ship mikohori? not to be rude but are there any specific reasons? -a legitimately curious mikokashi/horikashi shipper :"))
hi there anon! i guess i’ll come out of my cave to respond to this, ha ha ha (i… have not really been posting recently).
for starters, this is all just my onion, etc. also if you go back in my mikohori tag (there’s really not that much of it) i think i’ve posted another discussion i’ve had about this.
i ship them since i feel like they could make a great, mutually supportive pair. mikorin is shown as a really insecure guy, who puts on fronts in order to feel cool (but even the fact that he puts on fronts seems to double his insecurities). i really liked his and hori’s interaction in ep 3, when hori prompts mikorin in acting — and then praises him. i feel like mikorin gets very little positive reinforcement like that in the series, so seeing that interaction was really heartwarming. :) similarly for ep 10 when mikorin gets recruited (and fails to stick with) a theater performance. if only he had a consistent encouraging influence, ay? (imo sakura and nozaki are encouraging, but also don’t really push him very hard)
the reverse (mikorin’s influence on hori) is a little harder to motivate (they have so few scenes together and in those scenes mikorin tends to be the butt of the jokes), but i’d say i prefer hori’s dynamic with mikorin to his dynamic with kashima. it seems less contentious/irritation-inducing. (also, in the manga hori and mikorin build and maintain a dollhouse together, without knowing the other is involved. it’s cute. even their manga skillz pair up! flowers+backgrounds = ~*landscapes*~)
so that’s one part of it, which doesn’t have a lot of “canonical supporting evidence”, which is why they’re such a rarepair, hahaha………….
but the other part of it has to do with how GSNK plays with shoujo tropes (great!) while seeming to, in some ways, acquiesce to them (not always so great, imo), and the pairs i ship in GSNK are low-key in defiance of that (on top of the other reasons why i ship them). why do i have to be so ornery? but well, if i go into that this post is going to get stupidly long, and i’m already tired thinking about it (and it’s just more of my opinions, which… who needs those?).
anyway, ship whatever you want, etc. (must be nice shipping things that actually have fanworks… i’m just doomed to my self-imposed GSNK rarepair hell)

Yuletide reveals have happened, so I figured I might as well share that I wrote a Hibike fic. lol....... enjoy..........
rising from inactivity to ramble about Hibike Euphonium research under the cut
i’ve finished my Hibike rewatch (for... something i’m writing!) and after doing some research, i dunno why people (internet, reviews, wikipedia) seem to think that the next competition for Kitauji is Nationals? they’d just competed in their prefectural tournament and qualified for Regionals, which is the Kansai region’s competition.
if the whole thing is organized by the AJBA (which seems likely), perusing their site with some judicious google translating indicates that the regional competition takes place in december, and the national competition in march. these seem to correspond with the school terms (where the three terms of the school year go april-july, sept-dec, jan-mar).
so if season 2 happens, they’re probably either going to (a.) have it take place during fall term, up until the Kansai competition, (b.) accelerate so it takes place over 2 terms (that would be really quickly paced, for this series), so they can present both competitions, or (c.) skip the Kansai competition or only present it briefly and then show the winter term path to actual Nationals. if I had to pick, I’d say (a.) or (c.) would be the most likely, based on the pacing of this season.
(this is all just me prolonging my fate of not knowing wtf i’m writing. i thought i knew, and then i finished my rewatch and was like. j/k. i don’t know anything at all.)
