Soleil didnât know what to do with his time. They had a day before they were going on this next mission. It was strange, working with the WRO at the moment. He specifically never wanted to come anywhere near Shinra anything ever again. He trusted Reeve, to a degree, but there was still that shadow of Shinra leaning over everything.
But here he was, blinking tiredly at the two he had just gone throughâŚ..not hellâŚbut something pretty close to earlier in the day. ItâŚ.wouldnât hurt to get to know them, right? He hadnât made an effort in SOLDIER, he hadnât wanted to be there. Sure there were a couple of nice people butâŚ..There wasnât the choice.
But this was a choiceâŚ.To make friends outside of his village. Taking a breath, he stepped up to the other two.
âSoâŚuhâŚ.How do you guys feel about grabbing dinner, later? Maybe?â He wrung his hands gently. âI mean, we donât have to. if you guys donât want to itâs justâŚ..Weâre going to be working togetherâŚagain. So we might as wellâŚget to know each other?â How did people do this?
Mariposa didnât people. He certainly didnât like the idea of being tied down to do people-pleasing jobs but the world was grim and ugly and any amount of work counted. So he went along with it. Being an assassin, being so strongly anti-Shinra, being AVALANCHE- it all had a way of piling up on him, until every opportunity presented to him strongly went against one facet of him entirely.
He wasnât made to do honest work, but he also wasnât made to watch entire cities burn to ashes at one manâs beckoning.Â
So here he was, getting the best kind of exposure therapy he could possibly think of. The type where he jumped right in and as his body went into shock he would be eaten alive. Except the analogy was all wrong and he was instead looking at the two other mercenaries he just met and there was a malfunctioning robot hanging off of his back.Â
âDinner sounds good,â Mariposa said at last, shoving his hands into his pockets and fixing his good eye on the two with what was likely the stiffest expression to ever be seen on a living man. âCanât hurt, need some good rest after that excursion.â
He had enough gil left over from stocking up on goods that it would at least get him something tasty enough to fill his stomach. Then it was going to be back to sleeping out on the streets until his next job, probably. Preferable, he wasnât used to beds or blankets. They were suffocating.
âThough I canât speak for the group but Iâm thinking weâre probably not going to afford a four star meal. Food stall?â
Demetra was done with the job, so she tried to put it out of her head. She tried not to think about the knocking on the door, or the human like voices asking for help. Help she could not provide. Nope she simply would not think about it.Â
Instead she was thinking about dinner, and how nice a good meal would be right about now. Something warm and hearty. Something that would make her muscles which currently felt a little like jam, to feel more like muscles.Â
Food was okay to think about. Nothing else at the moment.Â
âDinner sounds really good to me.â She looked at the other two. Two people she didnât know a day ago. And honestly still didnât know now. Were they going to have a meal and become unlikely best friends overnight? Probably not. But they were company.
And company was remarkably hard for her to find nowadays.Â
âDidnât they offer us food inside the building or whatever?â She gestures, maybe she misheard. Maybe it was wishful thinking. Maybe just maybe there really was a good meal inside for them that wouldnât cost an arm and a leg, âIf not food stalls could be good. As long as we find someplace to sit and eat.â
