The University of Arizona is known for its sustainability program. Although not every UA student or Tucson citizen is in the program, UA shows its effort in the sustainable field to the public by designing the campus environment in an ecofriendly way. Since Arizona is known for its sunlight, one of the strategies that the university uses to be sustainable is designing the buildings to cooperate with the solar energy. Many sustainable buildings have installed solar panels on them. Some of the buildings are designed to actively interact with the sun; for example, the buildings only allow needed sunlight into the building and eliminate excessive heat from the sun at the same time. This book also records other sustainable features that a UA student can notice when they walk around the campus, like the design of recycle bins, public transportation, bike roads and the widely installation of solar panels.

The third proposal that I would do is the adventure of the campus. In order to get photos for this project, I went to many weird spot on the camps, like trying to get close to many roofs of the buildings. I think I will never go there if I did not take this class. Therefore, this book also serves like a diary of my adventure on the campus.

For the second proposal, I would focus on the interaction between nature and buildings. I would put the attention on not only the landscape around the architectures, but also how the buildings are being ecofriendly to this place. Therefore, I will put more photos that capture the sustainable features of buildings. With this concept, I would also put some public transportation inside to show how the campus is achieving the goal of sustainability overall.

The first proposal that I would do is transportation because I have many pictures that related to the bike; for example the bikes themselves, the bike lane, and the tunnel. I also took pictures about other public transportation, like sun link and sun train. I want to use these transportation related pictures to connect some buildings on campus in order to show the flow and movement of the campus.

I also want to convey that the culture shocks happen on both Asian students and local Americans when they meet each other. Although these photos are exacerbated, they are still understandable in Asia. However, these actions may seem weird from Americans’ perspective. Different understandings of the same action are the reflections of the conceptual and cultural difference between Eastern and Western culture. For example, the idea about being tanned, eating manner, learning style, and taking photos. To narrow the general experiences down, I decided to depict my personal experiences in these four images, so these are the thing that I have done and then being corrected when I just came to America.

For thethird proposal, I wanted to show how a person is searching a new path on his orher life in order to show the uncertainty. I would take picture of my uncle because he recently got retired. He is actively trying out new things, but he hasn’t found one that fits him yet. Also he also wants to find a new job although he retired from the previous one. So I would asked him to read newspaper and call on phones, walk into a church that has no people around, sit in his car to show how he tries to connect with the world again after leaving his original one.

For my first proposal, I want to show the culture differences. Some actions seem normal in Asian countries, but may seem incredibly strange from Americans’ perspective. Therefore, I would photograph some actions that Asian students might do when they first came to America in order to show the culture shock that international students would face.

For my second proposal, I will show the creative and energetic mind inside a quiet and shy person. To achieve that I would let my classmate to do some imagination with her cane; for example, imaging the cane as a baseball bat or fishing rod. Since I think the cane let her look calmer because she walks slower, the cane would represent both her and calmness in the photos. However, I think her artwork is filled with energetic elements. Therefore, I want to use the contrast between active movements and the representation of calmness to depict the energetic inside her.
