Mavuika would struggle a lot with Kinich suddenly being absent, huh? She must’ve been worried when Kinich suddenly vanished, only for him to show up in the Fontainian news being hailed as a hero for bringing down an international smuggling ring.
(On that note, why and how does Kinich keep getting himself into the most random bizarre situations? First he falls into an abyssal rift when trying to figure out the Kongsmsto situation, then he accidentally gets kidnapped/smuggled into Fontaine by stowing on a boat he deemed suspicious, only to become a key witness in not just one, but two separate international smuggling cases, and also get accused by the tabloids of showing up to assassinate Neuvillette? The canopy has to put this boy some serious lockdown before he gets isekai’d into a different dimension.)
I have a headcanon that Kinich is actually a descendant of Mavuika’s sister, Hine. I think Mav and Kinich have some physical similarities, but there’s no real basis lmao. Sure they both fight in a very similar style, but that could just be tribal techniques that have been passed down, or even Mavuika training Kinich herself.
But if I’m being honest, I just like the idea that they are some of the last blood related family that they both have left, even though they were born 500 years apart at the minimum. I like to imagine family dinners in the tribe with Elder Leik. Mavuika has distanced herself from the tribe and humanity as a whole since she chases perfection, so having a place where she doesn’t need to be a god just feels right. Also the concept of her teasing Kinich by calling him “nephew” makes my heart just melt.
On the note of Mavuika and perfectionism. The reason that she’s good at so many things, is because she refuses to let herself be bad at anything. Any and every hobby she tries out, she does it over and over again until she becomes proficient because she just cannot stand not being perfect, she can’t stand making human errors. She knows in her head that she’s human, but cannot accept that because that means accepting there’s limits to what she can do to protect what she cares about.
Humans are mortal. They age, they die. Whether it be in war or old age. Mavuika lost her family, her sister that she loved so much, she lost Burkina, her best friend and rival, and the rest of the heroes, she even lost her home to time, The Scions of the Canopy is structurally completely different from when she was a kid. Maybe if she lived as long as the gods, she could’ve protected them all, instead of giving her life to the sacred flame so she could exist in the present day…
Despite how strong she is, despite the authority over pyro, she is still human. A human who tries so hard to be a god, but they cannot shoulder the same things as a god, for she is only a human. She gets perceived by her fellow people as perfect because that’s the only part of her that she shows. Everything that isn’t perfect gets buried. Buried behind fake bravado, sweet words, and liters and liters of alcohol.
Mavuika is an alcoholic. She can handle her beer. She drinks a ton. But it’s not healthy how she uses it to cope.
Kinich sees this at every party, every banquet. He stays distant when she drinks, but not far enough away to not be there for her should she need him.
His father always needed him when he drank too much. Kinich knew what alcohol did to people, how harmful it could be, and he didn’t want Mavuika to kill herself accidentally because she did something stupid while drunk.
Yet another burden Mavuika unknowingly placed on Kinich, yet one he was willing to accept without hesitation.
