EXTREMELY niche and self-indulgent headcanon but the concept of ravi panikkar being transmasc and having pmos/pcos :(

imagining him being diagnosed with endometrial cancer when he's younger and even after going into remission still having to deal with the condition that contributed to it, and with the medical system's mistreatment of afab brown people, especially those with reproductive health issues, and THEN transitioning and still experiencing some of the symptoms. and now it's serving as a reminder of his past, as a source of gender dysphoria, AND constant pain and discomfort :(

ranking the begins episodes

buck begins

forever my favorite - it makes me cry every single time. i relate to buck and maddie so much, and it just hurts. so emotionally devastating and so profound. i love every minute of it. i don't rewatch it a lot, though, but that's only because every time i want to, i have to emotionally prepare myself for weeks. it absolutely murders me whenever i watch it.

2. eddie begins

the flashbacks were interwoven so well with the main story, both being equally entertaining. super suspenseful, and i loved the montage at the end. really great for eddie's character. also, huge episode for buddie.

3. athena begins

incredibly sad and i loved seeing athena's backstory and path to becoming a cop. also, that actress who plays young athena.. i collapsed. but that's not the point. it really helped me understand athena more, and emmett was so sweet i hated that i knew what was coming

4. chimney begins

not as good as the top three, and it sort of broke up the flow from the previous ep to the next one, but it was important and entertaining. plus, music edit at the end was a banger.

5. point of origin (bobby begins)

my god i felt so bad for bobby this episode. great intro to his backstory, and it was super sad, but they were still trying to find their footing in s1 and it doesn't hit as hard as the other begins episodes.

6. first responders (unofficial josh begins)

josh isn't a main character but he is an iconic king and i thought seeing his path to becoming a 9-1-1 dispatcher was really cool. the main plot didn't really interest me though - i like sue, but i'm not really attached enough to her for it to majorly make me emotional.

7. hen begins

listen i love hen with my whole heart she is absolutely amazing, a queen fr. but her backstory just didn't interest me as much as the others'. also, any episode with eva or even a mention of her just annoys me. let henren henren please, they're so perfect for each other and i don't want to be reminded of eva.

8. bobby begins again

honestly just unnecessary. we didn't need it, and it's really forgettable. i love bobby but no one needs two begins episodes.

buck isn't to christopher what bobby was to him, he's to christopher what bobby was to may and harry. bobby was the closest thing buck had to a parent. to may and harry, he was still very much their dad, even if it wasn't biological, but may and harry's parents were still very present and loving, as opposed to buck's parents, who were barely there. bobby was the only person who actually loved buck like a son, in the way a parent is supposed to do. when we're discussing buck and chris, buck is obviously a father figure to him, but he isn't chris' only parent. chris has a genuine, strong relationship with eddie. to say that buck's relationship with bobby parallels his own with chris is to imply that he has taken on a role eddie couldn't fulfill. but to me, bobby's relationship with may and harry is very similar to buck's relationship with chris. bobby was buck's only true parental figure. chris, meanwhile has a relationship with buck that i feel can only be encapsulated by something may said to bobby once.

i have two dads, and you're one of them.

like, is that not literally what buckchris is? bobby is described IN THE SHOW as the 'man who raised [buck],' by buck's biological father. we cannot argue that buck was the man who raised chris. he definitely helped, but he wasn't the father chris never had, much like bobby wasn't the father may and harry never had. he is another loving parental figure who supports chris in a similar way to how eddie already does. he adds to the love chris already had, and he makes the family dynamic deeper and stronger, but eddie is a good dad. athena and michael are good parents. margaret and philip weren't.
