Swarms of scattered thoughts and half-formed schemes fall still when Shuck feels the presence of the other. Not just close, in.
The perpetual, too-big grin that meanders across the dog’s features falls into a snarl--a creasing of lips that, in their new position, frame the veritable wall of cobbled teeth that dominate his face as even more eager to rend flesh and snap bone. With this visual spectacle comes a thick, guttural noise that manages to sound like the screech of bending steel and the disembowelment of a large animal all at once.
Lowering his head to accompany the contortion, Shuck slinks towards the man. Despite the softness of the wet dirt road, his footfalls leave no discernible imprints in the thick mud. The dog’s growl stops long enough to speak to the stranger.
