ALEX SHELLEY // PATRICK MARTIN
40-years-old
1/2 Motor City Machine Guns
With a thriving career spanning many years and many promotions, it’s hard to imagine why he’d want something more in life. Ever the workaholic (and also the overthinker), his concern with life after wrestling led him to becoming a physical therapist. However, sometimes you tend to hit your lowest point before you can find your highest. Fresh out of a divorce five years ago, for a time, he also found himself homeless. Putting in the work that to some might see as either psychotic or inhuman, he eventually landed back on his feet — as always.
Overall, he’s a kind-hearted soul who genuinely wants the best for everyone he comes across. He easily takes on a mentor role to many, and some might describe him as chronically self-sacrificing. His rollercoaster journey has shaped him quite a bit, though he still has a temper and a tendency for sarcasm and snarky quips. It isn’t hard to get him rambling on about almost any topic, namely dogs and punk rock (and he WILL likely insult your personal music taste while doing so).
CONNECTIONS
@detroit-made: Josh has always been his soulmate. From the beginning, there was complete understanding and unconditional love between them. They seemed to bypass ‘acquaintances’ and launch into best friends territory immediately. Anyone on the outside could see the inside jokes and the way one of them seemed to know exactly what the other was thinking with a simple glance. The unconditional love still applied at both of their lowest points in life. Patrick can still recount the endless hours spent on the other end of a call (sometimes ones that even lasted through the night after one or both of them accidentally fell asleep), wishing he could physically be there for his best friend through heartbreak. Everything Josh felt, he felt just as strongly. When he found himself homeless and alone just a few years ago, Josh was the one who accepted that no questions would be answered and took care of him regardless. Somewhere along the way, Patrick fell in love with his best friend, and these days, soulmate has a different meaning to them entirely. They complete each other outside the ring just as much as they do inside it.
