Let’s take a look at Ulla’s #nyfw2019 Autumn collection. First of all, it’s a tightly edited collection of 40 looks. More is not always better and I like a designer who has the guts to send out fewer looks with a higher percentage of kickarsed-ness. Also this COLOUR PALETTE. Divine. Perfectly autumnal and not in a depressing way, more in a cosy, aren’t I fabulous, I haven’t given up on life because the temperatures have plummeted kind of way. I think you buy @ullajohnson if you get that buying lovely pieces can also mean you’re aren’t following trends and you want to wear them ten years from now. Afternoon folks and welcome to Day 3 of #nyfw2019 .Today we’re heading over to @sally_lapointe ,who was inspired by Elvis Presley and his 1968 Comeback Special for her autumn 2019 collection. You probably can’t see how this works, but bear with me, because I’ll tell you how I see it and I love that it’s not immediately obvious. Elvis is quintessentially American, much like New York Fashion Week and its plethora of easy to don sportswear. But Elvis was also incredibly subversive, with all his hip gyrations and making all the young girls quiver in potentially satanic ecstasy. And I think that our LaPointe woman is also a little bit subversive, because the all American sportswear she clothes herself in is pretty luxe. We’re talking lilac snakeskin pants and discoball onesies (@fleamackenzie please get yourself exit 20). And like 1968 era Elvis, it’s also pretty damn sexy. Today our LaPointe woman is wearing a warm cosy turtleneck but it’s also midriff baring and she’s taking the subway in late autumn and doesn’t give a fuck that she’s cold and is likely not wearing a bra. She works in a PR company and enjoys going to fancy events where she gets to gobble lobster and drink real champagne. As Lucas from Prom says she’s a sexy little Rubik’s Cube but no, you can’t work her out. Does she have a boyfriend? A girlfriend? Red hot sex with random strangers? Give up. Day 2, #nyfw. I’ve recently discovered Paul Poiret so it was great to see his influence when @carlycushnie designed her Autumn/Winter 2019 collection for her label @cushnie. I love a tightly edited presentation with a great colour palette....this one was pretty dreamy. And yes to pastel pinks for autumn #groundbreaking. Also, runway diversity. So who is our Cushnie woman? Well to begin with, she’s a damn woman, not a girl. She’s wearing this fabulous dress to a charity dinner tonight. She doesn’t really want to go to the charity dinner but got roped into it by Becky from HR. She dislikes Becky from HR and if we’re being frank Becky doesn’t really like her either. This comes from a position of jealousy, because our Cushnie woman is a working mum in her mid 30s who nails squats at the gym and this is why her legs are so great. Her husband is rather cute with a shaved head but is also mildly incompetent. He forgot to arrange the babysitter for their two kids, Jordan and Jaclyn. Our Cushnie woman forgives him because he has abs as hard as a granite mountain range. She sorts the babysitter whilst curling her eyelashes and ordering an Uber. She’s in a good mood because she knows she looks pretty epic in a bias cut dress. I’ve been patiently waiting for @showstudio to call and ask me to illustrate A/W 2019 Fashion Week so they can put me on their Tumblr. Now that fashion week is actually FINISHED my patience is wearing thin, so matters have been taken into my own hands. Here’s exit 7 from my first highlight of the New York shows - @tomford giving us fake fur pimp coat realness. You can’t knock any catwalk show with a Chaka Khan soundtrack - although some weren’t happy, saying Tom was just harking back to his Gucci glory days. Dear Jesus, give Tom the wisdom to always, ALWAYS hark back to his Gucci glory days. One of my favourite things to do is imagine what kind of woman is wearing this. What’s she doing? I’ll tell you. She used to be a model (because no mere human lady can wear dem satin pants) but now she works in an art gallery. Yes, she does know Jeff Koon’s mobile number. She’s on her way out to meet her boyfriend for a drink at a very exclusive New York bar. She will probably have a dry gin martini with two olives. Her boyfriend looks like @davidgandy_official . Lucky bitch. Legs for days and a stupidly hot boyfriend. Later he will take her out for dinner and she’s considering if she’ll break up with him or not. Because that’s the kind of thing you can consider, if you have a coat this good. (It will all depend on where he takes her. So about a month back I attended a behind the scenes at the @ngvmelbourne , hosted by Amanda Cumming and Kate Reynolds of @pageant_studio . There are TREASURES at the NGV people, treasures. One treasure is this @prada coat from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection. I got to draw it. Also, there was Raf, Moschino (proper Moschino not this Jeremy Scott nonsense) and Courrèges.
