Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday...
What an ordinary day! With my internship ended three weeks earlier than expected and no job offer on the table, I currently have a lot of free time on hand. Just like many other recent grads who are in my position, the job search hasn't been easy. And, for the most part, it has gotten me pretty down. For the longest time, I pitied and blamed myself. I was constantly thinking about past events that could not be changed. Soon after, I realized I needed to change my perspective. Instead of pitying and blaming myself, I turned to the scriptures for comfort and guidance. Â
The scriptures I found helpful are the following:Â
"And, If you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all gifts of God" - D&C 14:7Â
Note: I don't know about most people, but for me, whenever I encounter a trial in life, I tend to take a hard look on my life and try to see what I have done wrong to deserve this. But, as I have learned from one of the lessons during FHE, some trials are results of our own doings, and some are actually from what we are doing RIGHT. Regardless, this scripture helps me to understand that no matter what our trials in like are, as long we keep the commandment and endure til the end, we will see rainbows and sunshine at the end of the tunnel!Â
"Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days." - D&C 24:8Â
Note: On many levels, this scripture hits me on a very personal level. For as long as I remember, financial instability has always been an issue in mine and my family's life. I know I shouldn't, but I sometimes look at other people and think " Why can't I be like them? So carefree and never have to worry about money.." But, I know that kind of thinking is very wrong. Everyone on this earth has issues they are dealing with, and I am not the only one. Nevertheless, as much as issues and problems we are dealing with, we have to always remember that we are not alone in this. Heavenly Father is ALWAYS by our side; all we have to do is to turn to him with a sincere heart and ask for guidance and comfort. Because guess what? He loves us and will ALWAYS help us.... "even unto the end of thy days"....Â
"Set in order your houses; keep slothfulness and uncleanness far from you." - D&C 90:18
Note: Whenever I read this scripture, I always think of myself and how much I dislike hobos and their not so pleasant scent. In a way, I think everyone should have the same mindset when it comes to uncleanness and slothfulness: Heavenly Father is pure and clean, and in order for us to be just like him, we CAN'T be dirty! In other words, don't associate yourself with anything that goes against the church's teachings. It's kind of like this. If I aim to become more like Christ, I would receive more and more blessings. And in order for me to be like Christ, I can't associate myself with  "slothfulness and uncleanness"... It makes perfect sense, doesn't like? Well...at least to me ;)Â
