âAnd into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soulâ
â John Muir
@noctevigentâ:
For as much as Fenrir had felt separate from most of witches and wizards, there was something just genuinely nice and not something he experienced often. At least not in this level of sincerity. It was different than what heâd usually experience. Different from what heâd usually like, but it was nice every once in a while. With the right sort of person.
As Katherine asked if she could tell him something, Fenrir just nodded silently. He knew he needed to be open with the pack. Agnes had ragged on him enough about that. At least with Agnes and Katherine it was easier than with anyone else. He listened, nodding lightly, his eyebrows knitting in slight as she continued. âMore how?â as he asked, he knew that she didnât have the answer. She said that she couldnât figure it out. âMore out in the world?â He didnât specify what part of it. People. Adventure. Just having space. He couldnât choose for her.
âRunning around or climbing trees does help. I run every day until Iâm tired. Just to start off the day.â Fenrir had seemed to find that werewolves were the sort that were physical. It solved problems, but sometimes didnât fix them. Fenrir shifted in slight, sighing and letting his head hang back for a moment. âI donât know if the war helps or hurts it all.â
â No, not more out in the world, â Katherine responded with heavy sigh. â The world is proving to be a dangerous place. I mean, look at us. Weâre both a danger and in danger constantly. â She scrunched her nose before continuing: â I guess I just want to be a little more like you and Agnes. Purposeful. Maybe I should just find another job, except... that didnât really end so well last time. Being fired isnât great for morale, yâknow. â Kate finished with a twisted smile. She had to find the silver lining otherwise she feared she would completely lose it.
â I certainly donât think it helps anyone, â she responded without missing a beat. â Does it ever... hurt you at times? â She hesitated for a moment, but the words quickly came up like word vomit. Katherine typically wouldnât ask Fenrir such a thing, but he was the one who brought it up. He had to know she would take that kind of bait and run wild with it.
She carefully drummed her fingers against her chin in deep contemplation. â I like running until Iâm tired too, â she chimed in again. â Bet I could even beat you, â she teased.Â
Well, weâre all suffering.Â
â Bloody hell, Albert. Is a little sympathy too much to ask for? Iâm practically having a crisis over here! â

The chance of someone running away from this wasnât just a small potential. The majority of those who turned did. They acted like it wasnât even there. They tries to hide from it. Tried to push it down and pretend as if it wasnât there. That want and need even at times was there for people. It was obvious now as she spoke, that it was there for Katherine as well. âI wasnât. I had always wanted this. I feel more that way about being human than I do about being a werewolf.â
He was quiet for a moment, before continuing. âYouâre not the only one that feels that way. I think most everyone does,â he said. He meant the pack of course, but heâd yet to meet another werewolf that was as passionate about it as he was. âLetting go during the full moon usually fixes that trapped in my own head feeling. If youâre worried about what you can do, then youâve just got to get far enough away so you donât have to worry and you can just let go.â
Katherine was silent for a long moment as she redirected her gaze toward the treetops. A piece of her was sad knowing thatâs how Fenrir felt about being human, but she could relate to a certain degree. â Being human is hard for me too, â she confessed as she gently squeezed his arm. â Can I tell you something? â She turned back to him a little hesitantly: â I donât think Iâve ever been fully satisfied with being just human, or just a witch. I think thatâs partially why I welcomed this change, but I still feel like Iâm constantly going back and forth with myself. Donât get me wrong. This is my home. Youâre my family now--you, Agnes, Albert, Phoebus. I just feel like I should be doing more, but canât figure out what. Maybe thatâs the human part talking, though. â
Katherine absentmindedly hummed as she traced her fingers along part of the hammock. â Itâs definitely easier during the full moon, but... is there anything I can do now? â She felt fidgety despite her best attempts to remain calm and collected like Fenrir was. She had the urge to chew on her thumbnails, but used great restraint not to. â I feel like getting up and running or climbing a tree or doing anything that can distract me from this feeling, but it always ends up coming back. â
@ettootsbruteâ:
Sheâs the worst. Just very obnoxious, though if anyone asks officially, sheâs a hoot. Thatâs my new word. Hoot. I love it. [ she shrugs ] Sheâs not a huge fan of me, which is fine by me. She doesnât like when I talk about politics, because I run a show that talks about plants. She runs a gossip show, which apparently makes it fine for her to launch her political biases into the cosmos. But thatâs not really happy, sorry. [ she nods ] Of course! Iâm happy to help. [ she grins ] Depends on what youâre looking for. Can you give me some hints?
â Oh, totally a hoot. In fact, probably the biggest hoot I know. â Katherine interjected with a playful grin. â Itâs a fun word, I can understand why you feel that way about it. â She continued before her smile finally faltered. â To be frank, anyone who treats you unkindly definitely makes it on the top of my shit list. Itâs not a long list either so hopefully that tells you something. âÂ
â Would you believe me if I said I was completely winging it? Iâm not much of a planner, â Kate admitted with a laugh. â I have been inspired, though. Any ideas where we can find rose water and sheet metal? They arenât exactly standard crafting supplies so Iâve been having some trouble. â
@countesszabiniâ:
âEverything sounds worse once youâve spoken it aloud,â Contessina said, her tone soothing. âWhat can I do to make it better?âÂ
â Do you have a timeturner? Can you go back fifteen minutes and somehow stop me? Please. â
@lunabellatoraâ:
âYeah, it does.â She puts a bowl of macaroni and cheese down in front of Katherine with perhaps a little more force than is strictly necessary. âStart talking.â
â There was an incident, â Katherine responds, her eyes teeter-tottering between Agnes and the bowl of food she placed in front of her before she desperately began shoveling large spoonful's in her mouth. â And by incident, I mean melt down. I had a melt down and got into a physical altercation, Iâd tell you to check out the other guy, but I think I am the other guy. Also--you should probably avoid my room for the indefinite future. Itâs not safe. â

Are you gonnaâ be okay?
â Honestly Remus, I ask myself that question daily. Physically? Yes. But mentally, I think I lost all those marbles a while ago. â
@andromedastellaâ:
âI can fix that up for you, if youâd like. Itâs a very easy poultice that I could make just in a moment.â
â Really? You wouldnât mind? Iâd be indebted to you. Last time I tried myself--letâs just say, I ended up making it worse. â

âThatâs fair. I like that attitude, itâs a good one to have. Even if it meant not so good things for me.â He grins. âI donât think sheâs seen it. And Iâm definitely not gonnaâ tell her. But my future child shall know of it, and be incredibly proud of me for earning such a place of honor that I sincerely hope they shall one day earn.â
â With your genes, Iâm guessing that will be highly probable. â Katherine concurred with a laugh. â I can definitely see you and your kid as the future official Zonkoâs mascots. Just better hope that your child doesnât mention anything to mum about all your recreational activities, given your celebrity status in the prankster community. â She said with the utmost seriousness before continuing: â Then again, I reckon youâve got a few years to go before theyâll start talking. Any chance she stumbles upon your portrait in all its glory before then? â

@claraeustaciaâ:
âYes. More specifically, you said you wanted to steal one of their carrots. Unless, does that word mean something different to you?â Clara tilts her head and smiles thinly, ignoring Katherineâs childish attempt at an insult.
She pursued her lips in contemplation knowing she should just let bygones be bygones, however, Katherine had never been known for biting back her tongue:Â â Nope, it has a standard definition in my book. Youâre the one whose logic Iâm questioning. Do you always pick fights with strangers over hypotheticals? Or are you just trying to go for that whole bah-humbug Ebenezer Scrooge look? Because itâs really working for you. â

Heâd never been the bet with words. Fenrir was far better with acting on things than he was about saying things or working them out that way. Either someone got it or they didnât. He gave up trying to make himself eloquent a long time ago and instead just did whatever he wanted.
âAs long as itâs not running away,â he said, looking back towards herânot entirely sure they were talking about the same thing, but confident that it was close enough to hopefully make sense. âI just feel stronger. More ready. More wild, I guess. Like I could take on anything.â He frowned a bit at the explanation she gave him about she felt. âItâs part of you. Donât be afraid of it.â She seemed willing to try, but she needed to give into it all. Something that didnât come easy to most.
Katherine laughed at what he said, though she doubted it was intended to be perceived as a joke. â Donât overestimate me, â she said without hesitation. The thought of running away had occurred to her a time or two before, but never seemed within reason. Besides, she couldnât escape from herself which was what she reckoned she feared more than anything else at this point. â Itâs not fear, Fen. I mean, it is partially, butâarenât you ever afraid of yourself and the lack of control? The things you can do? The things you actually do? Because Iâm feeling all of that, â she said as she leveled him a very serious look before trying to wave the subject off by corking her emotions. â Never mind, I just feel like Iâm trapped in my own head and need to find a way out. â
â Oh, this? Itâs not as bad as it looks, but when you say it out loud... it does sound pretty bad. â
