If thereās one thing Billy Baker knows how to do itās emotionally manipulate Spencer into playing well. Spencer plays on emotion. Doing that tribute during the game where thereās that many people coming to see Spencer play was strategic. Knowing the scouts were there isnāt enough to make Spencer play well. He canāt play well just because his future is on the line. Youād think that would be enough but itās not. Heās not driven like that. Heās not theĀ āi gotta worry about me and my futureā self preserving kind of person. Heās driven by emotion. Billy knew that wouldnātĀ be enough and it wasnāt. Not until he gave him a reason to play well.Ā
How well Billy knows Spencer. He can read him so well. Anticipate and know what he needs before he needs it and after. The attention to detail when it comes to Spencer vs how bad he is with his own kids. Like he knows Spencer up and down but Olivia and Jordanās emotions confuse him. Heās lost on them. Heās a sick man.
The fact that both the twins rely on Spencer for emotional support and look to him when they need help is a clear indication that Billy has failed them. Billy gives all his fatherly love to Spencer to a point where Spencer has become that fatherly figure to them is so sad.Ā
rating: 3/5 - The rating may not be high but I do have a lot to say about it
graphic + extreme nude content in the film. Please read more for my interpretation of the story. Might have spoilers.
When I first watched the trailer/ read the synopsis I was hooked. I wanted to know why and I wanted to know how they would end up.
I think the story left me with more questions than answers. For the first time, I learned to accept ambiguity.Ā
This story is about a lesbian Rei, who is in love with a woman Nanae. A woman who is being physically and sexually abused by her husband. A woman who has been abused most of her life. A woman who is straight. After seeing what Nanaeās husband did to her, Rei decides to seduce him and then kill him. The story begins from there as they run away together to escape the charges.Ā
This isnāt a typical story where two people are in love with each other and want to be together. Rather, it depicts a very confusing, complex relationship between a woman who is a lesbian and a woman who is straight.Ā
While it may seem that Rei freed Nanae from her terrible life, somewhere in there it feels like Nanae isnāt going to be happy with Rei either. The relationship between the two women is confusing for them and for us. However, that is what I liked about this story.Ā
When Reiās brother and sister-in-law questioned the womenās relationship neither of them were able to answer.Ā More often than not we love to label things and put everything into a definitive box. But sometimes, you just canāt.Ā
Rei was crazy enough to do anything for Nanae. Even have sex with a random taxi driver if it means she could protect Nanae. Nanae had no choice but to obey what Rei said. Sheās so used to abuse that even though she felt suffocated by Rei at times, Nanae felt that it was far better than her previous life.Ā
After Rei achieved what she wanted - to have sex with Nanae, it seemed like she started to see the bigger picture. They couldnāt be happy together. In fact, Rei could never be happy in general. And the only way they could start over was if they faced the consequences in place and that is exactly what Rei did.Ā
It maybe wasnāt until that point that Nanae actually started to like Rei. Rei wanted to start over with a clean slate and be there for the woman she loved.Ā
Ride or die is not a story where you learn a life lesson or try to relate. It is simply a piece of art. You donāt even need to understand it. It shows how reckless people can be for love. It shows how men try to manipulate women and take advantage of them when they are vulnerable. It gives a different meaning to love.Ā
It most definitely wasnāt the best movie Iāve ever watched. Rather it was far from it. However, it made me see films as a piece of art for the first time. And it made me feel okay that I didnāt understand something. That not everything is meant to be understood.
side note: maybe men should not be directing a movie about female relationships

The first thing that I want to talk about is the AMAZINGGGG cinematography. The shots are so perfect and the way they portrayed the scenes added so much more depth to the film. The dark coloring really helped set the mood of the scenes. The cinematography CARRIED. Absolutely loved it.Ā Ā
Secondly, I loved Sudheer Babuās acting so much in the movie. He really fits the action genre and I truly believe this movie gave him so much room to show his potential. On the other hand, even though I am a huge fan of Naniās works, I felt like he did not fit his role. Let me explain. Especially in the beginning of the movie, it was difficult to see Nani in a negative light and beĀ āscaredā of him despite his violent acts. Most of the comedic scenes were also being shown in the first half of the film and that just kept reminding us of Naniās āwholesomeā characters rather than help us to explore and get accustomed to his gruesome role. And Naniās annunciation of the words in the dialogue was also off and rather than keeping us at the edge of the seat, it made the scenes boring as Nani kept dragging his dialogues.Ā
I really liked Nivetha Thomasās character as well. The costume and makeup department really helped bring a unique style to all the characters.Ā Ā
Letās talk about violence. This movie was extremely violent and gruesome which I was not expecting. However, I really enjoyed it as Telugu films usually donāt tend to focus on stomach churning grotesque violence. This was definitely a new feature for a Telugu film. I definitely screamed multiple times and was in shock during E.V.E.R.Y single murder. The gold pouring scene??????? unbelievable.
The songs did not seem catchy to me personally but I do think they fit the film very well. The second half of the film did not really live up to my expectations and kind of took a very normal revenge story plot line which is okay. HOWEVER, since there was so much violence, I wished they made the villain irrational and reasoning for his actions illogical. That would have truly made us uncomfortable and added a whole new spin to the movie. But of course, they had to keep the commercial aspect in the forefront and it was obvious.Ā
Overall, I think the film had a great start but a predictable ending. A villain who was shown to be gruesome and dangerous but we couldnāt really feel that :( But the cinematography certainly held my attention throughout.Ā
Honestly I went into this moving with little expectation and assumed this would be a little too bold and far away from our regular telugu rom coms and I was pleasantly surprised. The movie basically follows a boy Krishna and his attraction towards three females.Ā
This was a very different kind of love story, something that weāve probably never seen before. Loving two people at the same time is extremely taboo and definitely not something that people will encourage but the way this movie explored this concept was very entertaining. The lead male actor was honestly hilarious and was perfect for the role. Krishnaās character is of someone who looks innocent and doesnāt mean much harm but ends up in the most difficult mess without trying too hard.Ā
There were two things I really liked about this movie was how realistically it portrayed modern relationships and how the main character broke the fourth wall multiple times. It felt like every time Krishna made a mistake he would look to us, the audience, for some sort of help which is an elite level of comedy. HAHA it felt like I was part of the movie almost.Ā
All of the female leads also did an amazing job and I loved how the movie portrayed the female leads as strong and independent, especially towards the end and showed that theĀ āheroā wasnāt the main aspect of their lives.Ā
Note: I know the original version of this movie is in mandarin, however I havenāt seen it. I just know that the plot is similar in both the movies.
Honestly it has been more than a year since I saw this movie but I still couldnāt get it out of my head. Maybe because the story was so realistic where there isnāt a boy + girl + love = happy ending type formula. I loved the experience of watching the movie even though the acting wasnāt the greatest. I feel like over time I started to understand the story a little better and now when I think about the movie I donāt see the actors, I just remember the feeling I felt watching it. The reason my rating is so low for this movie is because of the acting. I feel like the main characters, especially the female lead, was very vague in her expressions. It just felt like the guy was chasing after a girl who really didnāt know what she wanted, when the story is not about that. It is about a young couple who had very different personalities but somehow still loved each other and how their relationship didnāt last due to their different maturity levels.Ā
After this movie ended, I felt so uncomfortable, angry and frustrated. I guess I am a bit of an idealist when it comes to love so I couldnāt accept the bittersweet ending. Even though the male lead accepted that the girl moved on, when he kisses her husband to showcase how he would kiss her if he had the chance just shows how much he loves her. Or the time of the earthquake when the first person he checked up on was her. Or the fact that he was writing this story in the first place and thinking about publishing it. It always makes you wonder if maybe the day they had an argument and he was mature enough to apologize to her, they would be together now.Ā
There is something magical aboutĀ Giddens Koās story and I knew it was inspired from real life based on how the story was portrayed. This movie is one of those where you just tell yourselfĀ āThis is just lifeā and move on. Sweet yet sad.
I honestly really enjoyed the movie. For someone who is not that familiar with the malayalam language, the plot was simple to follow. I feel like this movie is the definition ofĀ āfeel goodā where each character has their own little plot line and they all just tie in together as story goes on. The movie brought light to the topics such as finding love at an older age, modern arranged marriages, strained relationships between a mother and a daughter, resentment which eventually turns into love between 2 brothers and cute little community in the apartment. This movie truly made me nostalgic about all the fun times I had when I lived in an apartment back in India. The pastel colors used in this film further emphasized the lightheartedness of the movie and made it more aesthetic.Ā
But did you see the way Paul Munsky ended up falling for Ellie instead of Aster?
Just right after Aster kissed him, he looked straight to Ellieās window. At the start, all he could say about Aster was that she was smart and pretty, but if he was asked then what made him like Ellie (after everything theyāve been through together thus far) I bet he wouldāve been able to list his own reasons the same way Ellie listed hers for Aster. And that scene!!! When he checked on her during the party, tucked her into his bed when she got hella drunk (which would mean heād have to sleep on the floor maybe, idk), and he saw the letters she wrote for the food critics to give his taco sausages a chance⦠ah, the way he sat on that armchair maybe realizing what love really felt like for the first time. After the game where he scored, he looked for Ellie, not Aster. By the time he tried to kiss Ellie, he didnāt mind that Aster saw because his feelings had been made clear to himself. During the ending scene he looked like he had some stuff he wanted to say and couldnāt (knowing who Ellie wanted), but he still chased after her train.
And you know how he overheard Aster singing from out the music room window at first? He stopping during practice just to listen? We can actually see his affection shift to Ellie when he overheard her composing her song from out her window, and he also stopped to listen.
I know this is a gay coming-of-age movie, but part of it was also a straight dude falling in love with a lesbian. This storyline was blessed with such a soft, sincere, loving, understanding boy. All that concern? Helping Ellieās dad prepare her college meals? Helping her pick out clothes for the seniors talent show? Iām wrecked ā
I donāt appreciate any of yāall hating on him and you can fite me. Paul ended up redeeming himself from that āitās a sin, youāre going to hellā comment just by caring enough to google about gay people so he could expand his perspective ā so he could better understand Ellie. And of course there was the church scene.

Spoilers ahead: I will give you my interpretation of the ending so please read on if you are ok with that.
This is the first Filipino movie Iāve ever watched and from what I could infer, NNLY is not a typical local style movie. I recently got to learn about JaDine and their works after stumbling upon the On The Wings of Love (OTWOL) series and I will review that soon as well.Ā
Ā I think what I loved the most about this movie was how close it was to reality. It is not about cheating or a disruption or a responsibility that keeps the two main characters apart. Itās rather their maturity and their need for independence that changes their love. I felt that Jadaone, the director, tried to portray this idea in OTOWOL as well with the whole Simon situation. There were many parallels to those episodes in this movie. However the way Gio deals with the situation makes the audience fall in love with him. I think what I am trying to say is that this movie focuses on true love. True love is letting a person follow their heart even if it means you canāt be with them. True love is realizing things are changing and addressing the situation. True love is wanting the best for the person even if it means that you canāt be part of it.
Nadineās acting in the last few scenes, before the movie comes to an end, was truly amazing. As an audience we feel the discomfort that she is feeling. There is love but there is also a sense of doubt. A sense of confusion. There is pain.Ā
The ending is open. As the audience we can feel the tension. TheĀ āsparkā that we felt in the beginning of the movie seems to have faded away. Jason at the tattoo shop also mentions howĀ āfinger tattoos fade easilyā. However, Gio and Joanne both decide to get the ring tattoo again. They both give up their work related responsibilities to do so as well. And I guess that it shows that they are both willing to give it another try. They are willing to make that sacrifice.Ā
Personally, the ending felt painful because the realist in me feels like it will not work out. We donāt know if Gio can succeed financially. We donāt know if the awkward silence between them will ever die down. Even though, the actualĀ āendingā of the movie ended in a predictableĀ āhappyā way there is still something that keeps us thinking. While we have symbols to show that the main characters are trying to keep their relationship, the dim lighting of the movie creates another mood for the audience altogether. The lighting in movie gets darker and darker and initial shades of red are replaced with tones of brown/gray. And I guess that could reflect the mood of the characters which we can hope will brighten up or maybe not.Ā
I think one of the most beautiful parts of this movie was the way information was presented to the audience. The screenplay played a key role in making this movie extremely entertaining as the concept of the movie is one that everyone can relate to. The director tackled the contradiction between the lives of the rich and the poor. The termĀ āparasiteā refers to many things. It refers to the poor family that is leeching off of the rich family. But it also refers to the ex-housekeeperās husband living in their basement who is leeching off of the family. What I liked about the movie was how real it was. There was no happy ending per se, nor were the rich people painted asĀ āvillainsā. The movie was raw. It showed the situation as it is. The rich people were too preoccupied to learn about the poor people around them. The poor people learned overtime to do whatever they can to reach theĀ ātopā.Ā
Each and every scene was extremely important to the movie. There werenāt nonsensical characters just for comedy or unnecessary scenes that diverted from the main point of the movie. In fact, there were hidden metaphors and foreshadowing throughout the movie that makes you think about the movie even after it was long over. It might be the paintings made by the little kid of the man in the basement or how that painting was positioned a few meters below the family portrait showing that he too was living there, but underneath them.Ā
It might be the unpredictability of the climax scene that stole the audienceās hearts or confusion on how to react to the death of the man. The movie really shows it is what it is. The ending was a cruel reminder of how the real world works and maybe the poor man will forever stay in the basement of the house underneath the rich.Ā
In this review I will be talking about specific scenes I really liked and some that I didnāt. So spoilers ahead!!Ā
Ok first of all I feel like the reason I gave this movie such a low review is because the movie didnāt live up to the high expectations I had after watching the promotions. The story line was quite generic and many of the main points were confusing. Babies switched at birth is a staple plot in Telugu cinema so that means that the rest of the plot was definitely predictable. There were also many renowned actors (Vennela Kishore, Sunil, etc.) in the film who appeared only for a scene or two and it almost seems like they were only in the film for theĀ ācommercialā aspect that we often mention. There didnāt seem to be a true purpose for most of the characters.Ā
Specifically, two things that I really didnāt like in the film were:
1. The red-coat board meeting scene where they tried to replace Bantu with one of the people in the boarding meeting. It is ironic that the whole reason Amulya was involved in the meeting was because of how skilled she was in business. However, they ask her to leave the meeting? So her employee can take over instead? The other main dude just sat there the whole time not doing anything? It is also ironic how the director, Trivikramās, last film was about female empowerment and he basically gave no scope to the one female character that actually had the potential to shine in the scene.Ā
2. Tabu, his actual mother, never even knows that he is her actual son and they basically just let the movie end that way. More than half of the time, the main character is confused as to why he wants to be involved in his birth familyās life. This made the ending even more generic and boring. Even almost rushed.Ā
With all this being said, there were some incredible scenes in the movie. The fight scene that was choreographed according to the song was absolutely amazing! Usually fight scenes are directed in a way where scenes move really quick and the audience can barely keep up with the (already non logical) fights. However, making this fight almost like a dance added a new element to the movie and definitely made it unique and very interesting to watch. I also loved the comedy parts of the red-coat board meeting scene and I know that this scene stood out for most people. It was a unique style of comedy and I liked it. Most of the movieās main source of comedy was that one scene, to be honest.
The sound track to this movie was even better than the movie itself. Thaman outsold. He is a legend.Ā

The love I have for this movie is on another level.Ā This review is a little too long haha!
A good story and great acting are truly the pillars of a successful movie. There is nothing much I can say about this movie that hasnāt already been said. I didnāt watch the original movie which was shot in Korean. However, I did watch the chinese version of this movie before I watched Oh Baby. I think the small tweeks in the movie were well done to adapt to the telugu audience and that made this movie relatable. Not only does this movie talk about the importance of senior citizens but it showcases the relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law which is often humored about on television. Mainly the movie talks about the sacrifices parents make for their children and grandparents make for their grandchildren. It really makes us think about how certain family problems are no oneās fault but every family memberās fault at the same time. You laugh with Baby, you cry with Baby and you dance with Baby. This movie has everything that you would want in a good movie - love, emotion, family, grief, friendship, music, comedy and even confusion lol. Lakshmi garuās acting was phenomenal and honestly when you watch her on screen you cannot think of any other actor who could act in the same way. She was peeerfect for this role. Samanthaās acting was remarkable. Watching her on screen, didnāt make us only feel like we were watching a young bubbly person but constantly reminded us that she was supposed to be a grandma haha. Maybe it was the slang that she spoke in or the way she walked or her hand movements but Samantha really gave her best performance ever. The music matched the situations of the movie and was a added bonus. Our favorite frustrated woman on Youtube was perfect for the role as Chantiās daughter. Last but DEFINITELY NOT the least our two amazing actors of TFI, Rajendra Prasad and Rao Ramesh were so natural that it didnāt feel like I was watching a movie at all. This movie is definitely an amazing ride that you could go on as many times as you would like (I already watched it 2 times now lol). Also can we just talk about the ending? Why is the ending the highlight of the movie? hahaha
Okay so as you can tell, I didnāt really enjoy the film as much as everyone else. I think the best parts of the movie were the humor and the acting. It felt like I watching 3 real friends interacting with each other when I saw R3. The reason why my rating is so low, however, is because of the second subplot - the one of the upcoming director (Vishal) and the actress (Shalini). For the R3Ā and Mithra subplot, there is a progression. Whether it be the beginning of their friendship or Mithra's family situation, the plot was developing. However, the subplot of the director narrating his story to the actress remained stagnant for the most part (especially compared to R3 and Mithra subplot). It is difficult for us not to compare these two. This type of screenplay is quite new to the Telugu industry but also quite familiar. Strangers' lives coming together due to an incident is not that uncommon. I do not think that it was executed well in this movie. I wish there was more story to Vishal. The ending seemed rushed. Honestly the second half of the movie seemed rushed. As the audience, even before we could wrap our minds around the fact that R3 and Mithra are NOT part of the story that Vishal was narrating to Shalini in the other subplot, the story was already going further and further. However, I think the director did an amazing job not making the story confusing and still sticking to logic. Last but not the least, the cop friend of Mithra's dad was not the best character. I guess they were trying to be funny with the character but it really backfired -_-
