Day 2 Favourite spy tropes:
Undercover as lovers, black tie infiltration and I never told you my name
Pairing: Sharon Carter x Steve
They walked arm in arm into the gala,
Mr and Mrs Whitterman were in love and happy to be celebrating a new exhibit for the Smithsonian, after all they were socialites and what better way to make connections with the educated elite.
A gentleman smiled and they smiled back making there way over to him.
At least that's what there mission statement said.
"So delighted you could make it" A man greeted them kissing there cheeks twice.
Sharon on the otherhand, would rather spend her time making connections with the owners of the new hamburger joint downtown, than with these rich snobs.
"Would anybody like a sherry?" A waiter pops in.
And Steve, bless his heart. Had all the social grace of a reversing dumptruck. His tall, muscular figure would grab your attention, yet he had no experience and so never knew what to do next, he'd just fumble and bluster his way through.
Why anybody found this charming instead of irritating, which it is especially when we need to seem like we belong here and your as red as a cherry, was beyond Sharon's belief.
They were there to take the Gem of Cyttorak, despite its glow and size it looked like a regular gem, but it held the ability to make whoever touched it and gained its power become the strongest and most powerful, if you own it you wouldn't even need to sleep, eat, drink or breath.
Shield had found out about its existence and the gala through the grapevine.
Hydra had also found out, and it was imperative they did not get there hands on it.
"Remember to stay alert, the Hydra agent could be anywhere" Sharon spoke, scanning the room.
"Is that why you smashed my sherry glass on the floor?"
"It could've been poisoned!"
"So? I can drink poison! Its the pro to the con of not getting drunk!"
"But if you can't get drunk why does you even want-" They argued through gritted teeth when suddenly,
"Oh shit" She cursed as across the hall she spotted her old friend Mary McKellen.
"What is it?" Steve went from playfully upset to concerned at how pale Sharon had gotten.
"Kiss me quickly! I'll explain later!"
Mary was starting to turn around in there direction.
Steve was cut off as Sharon grabbed him and pulled him into her, practically making out in front of the Mona Lisa, ignoring the scoffing surrounding them and keeping half an eye on her old friend until she saw her walk into another room.
She pulled apart quickly, Steve was flushed.
"Public displays of affection make people very uncomftorable."
Uncomfterble is not exactly the word I would use, Steve thought.
"Sorry, i saw an old friend, a girl i went to school with and we need to not be recognised so if I kissed you-"
"She'd look away." Steve finished the sentence for her.
They both looked at each other, and for a second there smiles were genuine.
However this was quickly cut off by the sound of glass smashing, red lights flashing and a blaring alarm.
Everyone started to go towards the exits, though later they quickly discovered the museum has a 'seal in' protocol so thieves don't escape.
Sharon and Steve ran towards the opposite direction of everyone else, there were two corridors so they quickly split up to run down them and corner off the criminal at the end.
Sharon darted down the left towards the sculptures, it wasn't long that she reached the end of the corridor when she heard a voice.
"Miss Carter! No running in the halls!"
She stopped in her tracks looking around till she noticed him, the man who had greeted them.
"How do you know my name?" She eyed him cautiously.
"Ah, you don't recognise me. I'll admit I'm not the spry chicken when we first me, but a teacher never forgets there student" His eyes twinkled as he spoke.
Sharon stared deep into his face, behind the wrinkles, the yellowing skin and the greying hair he looked familiar.
"Mr Lawrence?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yes my dear, I'm afraid disease has taken its toll, but with the power of my latest artifact, I'll be strong again, more then strong! I'll be unstoppable" he let out a little chuckle.
"But why? Why the exhibit if you're just going to rob yourself?"
They began to circle each other, vultures waiting for a chance to strike.
"I think we both know that this, is a very powerful gem, naturally you Shield and Hydra would want to scene out the very best to retrieve it, and why collect one powerful thing when you can have multiple? Your partner is being taken care of, now all that's left to deal with, is you"
Sharon's blood ran cold as he began to reach for something in his pocket.
"Your not unstoppable yet." She spat, quickly hitting him in the back of the neck, taking the gem that was wrapped up tightly in his pocket, and throwing him across the room, discarding him like an old toy.
She ran down the hallway calling for Steve, trying to warn him it was a trap.
Suddenly she was in the Van Gogh exhibition and watching as her old friend Mary was stood over a body.
It was in this moment when she realised it was Steve.
When she realised the pain of loosing him.
When she realised just how deeply she cared for him.
That maybe she didn't find him annoying at all.
And it was in thus moment that she leapt on her old friend, grabbing her by the hair and choking her in a headlock till she fell limp in her arms.
Not quite dead but near enough.
She quickly found that Steve had been shot, he was bleeding heavily from his stomach, but his chest was faintly wheezing.
Not quite dead but near enough
Steve woke up to blonde hair tickling his nose.
He looked to his right to see Sharon who had accidently fallen asleep in the chair,
He later found out that he had been in a coma for 4 days, and Sharon had never left his side.
"Thank you, for rescuing me and staying with me" he told her one day.
"Its no big deal, just get me a dinner and movie and we'll call it even" she smiled with a wink.
