“You also thought you’d be able to avoid me forever, I assume, but here we are.”

“ It’s called taking a short-cut, Norgaard. ”

“Yeah, yeah, I know, but aren’t short-cuts supposed to be, well, shorter?”

“This was where the tech guys said the signal was triangulated…”

“Let’s just see if any one is home.”

Shane’s hand swept the side of her skirt. “Yeah, okay,” she said, breathing a sigh of relief when she felt the hilt of her gun still strapped in place. Situations like this always made her tense, regardless of how small the threat-level was.

“Please. My source may not be exactly what you’d call loquacious, but she gave me enough.”

“I’ll know the place when I see it.”

“If you say so. I just hope this goes better than last time.”

"Off the top of my head? Abandoned buildings… heights… public speaking… centipedes… oh, and not living up to my parent’s expectations. You know, just silly things really."

"Then, I would ask them if I suspected them of it. Has the higher ups made any indication as to when they will turn the snow off?" Dallon shrugged out of his new jacket and handed it off to the girl. "Solomon said that if girl tells me they are cold that I should offer them my jacket."

"Not to me," she said, looking down at her hands. In all honesty, Shane didn't want them to turn it off. It was extremely exciting, despite the frigidness of it. "I sort of wonder if they even know how." She looked back up at him. 

"I flip my lights on so that I do not trip or run into anything. Why would anyone follow me? Are there people following you? Would you like me to assist you in taking care of them?"

"You don't know why they're following you, that's why you're paranoid about it."

"I can’t say that I do. Nothing I have encountered, yet."

“You?”

"Seriously? You don't flip on the lights when you walk around the house at night? You don't get paranoid if someone's following you for more than a block?"

"It’s quiet."

"And cold."

"So, you don't think it's spooky?" she asked, turning to look at him. "Do you think anything's spooky?"

"Thought I heard someone but it was just the snow."

"It's kind of spooky isn't it?"

"HQ?"

"Yeah, I was just- wait- where'd you go anyway?"
