i have a really specific set of headcanons that 99% of this fandom would hate but here's a scene that's been bouncing around my head for it.
essentially Link's mysterious past and time-related powers can be credited to being a bastard child of the Queen, and upon being discovered after the Queen's passing, the King had him instantly shuttled to Zora's Domain with a handful of knights to keep the boy out of his sight. Thus why a majority of Link's childhood as a knight can be credited in the Domain, until he was a little too good at being a knight, at which point Rhoam could no longer ignore the little problem on his hands and started putting him on increasingly dangerous missions.
Link, however, would rise to the occasion, and succeed in his impossible tasks every time, only serving to infuriate a King who already thinks his daughter is worthless, causing him to compare Zelda and her bastard half-brother constantly, not that she would ever know it. All Zelda knows is her father is never satisfied with her progress.
Mipha discovers this, and is sort of seething that the King would 1. treat a child so callously as to force him to remain in the army in the hopes it would get him killed and 2. deprive Zelda of growing up with a sibling just so the King could continue to put pressure on her and isolate her, whilst retaining his rule after his wife's death. It causes the King immense distress to have his power questioned, which it is, regularly - after all, he married INTO the hylian royal family. He doesn't have a drop of Zonai in him.
Mipha's hope to protect her beloved Link from the King's plans to get his ass killed in the Calamity's war involves marrying him. After all, he's technically of noble blood, and if King Rhoam was to risk his life then, it would be a call to action against the Zora; this scheme might've worked, had the Calamity not jacked everything up.

But Mipha and Link make me SO emotional bc I REMEMBER being a little brand new player, knowing nothing about the story, and how it was so immersive and you knowww I play Zelda games like an rpg so I WAS a guy who woke up with no memories in a desolated wildland and is told he has so so many people counting on him but he cannot remember. Where is his family? It's been one hundred years... does anyone left alive even remember his parents' names...?
And then! You get to Zora's domain and they all know you!! They're alive, and they were there and this silver one says you were childhood friends. This red girl calls you Linny for some reason and it makes you laugh. It's wonderful bc everyone everywhere else is just... gone. so gone.
And Sidon realizes you're the real, actual Link who his sweet sister loved so, so much, and the very first thing (for me) to spark any memory other than Zelda's random pictures is her statue. And then the tunic. She made it for you. It fits you perfectly. This home where everyone loves you, they loved her, too, so much, and she's waiting for you. Please. Please free Mipha.
Her song, her voice... It was so long ago, but I still remember how I just wanted her to know I was there, I knew, I remember her and I'm so sorry, and she could finally rest.
I cannot tell you how much I cried going through Zora's Domain and Ruto. It'll always be a special part of the game for me.
