Testing out how the masterplan, community clusters, and individual units can physically breathe, float, and function together in the lagoon

When it’s 3 AM and both you and the concept are barely holding on by a thread. He’s not falling though, just making him test the spatial boundaries of the lagoon

The transition from a 2D line drawing to a 3D physical reality is always the most telling part of design studio

Diving futher into my concept statement and exploring masterplan ideas for settlement - at a conceptual level

An iterative process of sketching out how the new floating settlement can maintain the island's familiar continuity while deeply engaging with the lagoon.

During our site analysis, I noticed a steady, shared routine where the lagoon is always present, yet safely tucked into the periphery of daily sightlines. This experience began to shape my concept and so yhis project responds not by disrupting that familiar rhythm, but by gently shifting it.By weaving environmental encounters directly into everyday routes, edges, and shared spaces, the floating settlement allows residents to instinctively slow down and notice the breeze, the light, and the water. The lagoon is no longer a momentary glimpse between buildings ,it becomes a continuous, celebrated presence in everyday experience.

This section of the board highlights the vital conversation between traditional island living and water-based futures. From fears of kids falling into the water to the high demand for floating agricultural space, these voices define the parameters of our design

Understanding the community before proposing the architecture. This comprehensive social mapping board of K.Thulusdhoo pieces together carrying capacity limits, housing issues, infrastructure deficits, and environmental buffers. Through raw community data and firsthand quotes, the board is essentially the island socially a direct voice to the people and letting their lived experiences dictate where the design needs to go next 🌊🗣️

Mapping these six critical buffers proves that the land is completely maxed out by environmental and social risks. Moving the masterplan out into the safe zones of the lagoon isn't just a design choice, it’s a necessity to protect the community from infrastructure spillover and pollution

The exact moment we figured out where the new settlement could be, right after interviewing the local surfers...
