In this au magic is a Thing people can just be born with. Considering it can be very dangerous, the government tends to be very controlling/ meticulous of keeping track of its magic population

There's also an on and off war between the humans, demons and vampires. magic users just so happen to be the most effective defense against them so the government is Very Keen to get them registered and trained up for various duties.

Magic artifacts in this world are very much heavily kept under lock and key and studied. In fact it's considered a low level government position.

Simon in this au doesn't care about the government part of the job. His passion is studying and uncovering artifacts.

However it's during one trip that his powers kick in for the first time and save him when he falls overboard and nearly drowned.

He summons an iceberg / block of ice to flat him back to the surface. When he realizes what happened

He knows his life is changed/ in danger. But perhaps he can ... study his own magic without being caught. Maybe they would be ok.

His power set/ abilities are weaker than Winter/ ice king
