It was a straight-forward mission. Track the rogue, interrogate him on the information he held about Konoha, and eliminate him if he was a threat. Hopefully it would go as smoothly as it sounded. She was told that she would also have a partner for this mission, though she wasn’t told who it would be and would only find out once she got to the village gates.
Tazz hoped that it was someone that she got along with. Well, she got along with pretty much everybody, but she wanted to be partnered with someone she particularly liked. She was pleasantly surprised to see Shikamaru standing at the gates, presumably waiting for her to arrive. She gave him a wave and a smile as she approached, “Hey. I take it you’re my partner for this mission?”
She supposed that she should be pleased with her partner given that he was a genius after all. And she rather enjoyed his company as well, so that was a plus.
SO MUCH FOR PEACE. Already a year after the war, and someone was bent on making everyone’s life a living hell. It was a good thing they didn’t dismantle the system entirely, lest the civilians would become vulnerable prey in a sea of pathological predators. He and another Shinobi were assigned to the mission - given the particular MO of the rogue.
Truthfully, Shikamaru was glad to be doing something novel again, even if that something was tracking down someone particularly dangerous. To some extent, it reminded Shikamaru of his risk taking days - where he’d do anything just to get his dopamine & adrenaline rushing. Given the circumstances of this rogue, Shikamaru began feeling similarly to the past. The mission would be exciting indeed. The one thing he would’ve objected to was the anonymity regarding his partner. If he’d had it his way, Shikamaru would’ve known beforehand.
But he wasn’t too disheartened as he watched his partner approach him -- Tazz. They’d shared a few smoking moments before, and she was never particularly bothersome. Maybe it wouldn’t be such a drag after all. ❛ Guess so. ❜ He replied monotonously. He wasn’t sure what to expect over the next coming days, but that was part of the rush. It should bother him to feel so stimulated over such circumstances, but he really couldn’t help himself. Another day of false calls of robbery, and he’d have to jump off another cliff just to feel like he had fun.
❛ So, the ANBU told me they raided his house before he fled and found some ties with the Amegakure. Whether or not their failing government is involved, we don’t know. It could be necessity for resources, but I think it’s more than that. This guy isn’t acting out just to help the Rain. His family nor him weren’t even born there. Before we go, I think we should review the case files again and surmise a concrete plan. ❜ It didn't take long for Shikamaru to begin, forgetting entirely about formalities and proper greetings. There was too much to review regarding this guy's plans, and they needed to act quickly.
