Lowkey I am starting to be really convinced that Aegon/Young Griff is actually Elia’s son. Because I’m reading the bullet points about Daenerys and Jon being born under a red comet and I can’t help but think of Aegon. Because a huge reason Rhaegar changed his interpretation of the prophecy from himself to his son was because Aegon was born under a red comet.
I’m not sure how canon the play is but my understanding is that Grrm heavily endorses it, with maybe some things being a slight deviation to be better adapted to a theatre rather than a book, I think a lot of the beats are the same.
So I can’t help but feel that three births, three comets (two signally births since Daenerys and Jon were conceived under the same comet but three if you include the one the dragons hatched under), three dragons. I just can’t believe these are mere coincidences and the three have to be connected somehow.
The only icky part is Elia going out of her way to save her light skinned son, but her dark skinned daughter was stabbed to death because she wasn’t part of some special prophecy. Though perhaps she truly thought a little girl who was no threat to Robert’s throne would be spared, she was hidden in a different room and even Maegor The Cruel spared Aegon The Uncrowned’s little girls. There’s still some racist undertones in the writing if Aegon is indeed Aegon, but I think it at least explains Elia saving Aegon not Rhaenys.
