If you see a dude walking around Shabang with an insanely long and full beard with some sort of hat on, chances are it’s the one and only Will Clarke, who will headline the Funk Safari on Saturday, May 4th.

Shabang Reborn will not be Clarke’s first rodeo. Clarke is quite the festival veteran having played at festivals such as EDC Vegas, Nocturnal Wonderland, Coachella, Moonrise Festival and Beyond Wonderland.

A wildly talented dance music/house DJ, Clarke has hit #1 twice on Billboard’s Dance charts with his remixes of U2 and Rihanna. Simply put, his music makes you want to boogie all night long - evident in his newest releases, “Feeling Good,” “Our Love,” and “Like a Girl.”

Clarke releases music on many record labels including DIRTYBIRD, an independent electronic music record label based in San Francisco known for their management of house DJs. He is also set to launch his own record label later this year. When he’s not in the studio, Clarke works on his own streetwear line which aligns with his label.

To add to his many talents, Clarke started his own radio show, “The Barber Shop,” in 2015 in which he hand-curates a monthly show that showcases his unique taste in music. The show has gained over 500,000 monthly listeners and is syndicated to EDC Radio.

Rumour has it that Clarke’s live DJ sets are interlaced with tons of his unreleased music, edits and reworks so if you like booty-shaking house, make sure to catch him at Shabang Reborn.

Bane’s World will be playing on the Shabang stage in May and we’re dreaming about it already. Also known as Shane-Blanchard’s-Bedroom-Recording World in Long Beach, CA, Blanchard writes, records, and produces all of Bane’s World’s music on his own.

Most of the songs on Bane’s World’s first LP, Drowsy, make you feel like you’re floating on a cloud, wrapped in your favorite sheets, with the warmth of sweet sunshine on your face. His silky smooth single “You Say I’m In Love” has earned nearly 20 million listens on Spotify, and the rest of his songs follow close behind, in the millions. In 2017, the band played at the sold out Tropicalia Music and Taco Festival in Long Beach, a popular destination festival for SLO locals.

If you’re not drawn to Bane’s World because of the California roots, the dreamy synth sounds are hard to resist. In an interview with Teal Magazine, Blanchard attributed Bane’s World’s dream pop sound to the heavy influences of Stevie Ray Vaughan and King Krule.

On May 4, Bane’s World will be gracing us with their love-song lullabies, rocking you right into that sweet spot bliss.

L.A. rock band, Cherry Glazerr, is one of three headliners to play Shabang Reborn on May 4 at Laguna Lake Park. If you don’t already know about this quintessential feminist psychedelic-grunge-punk-rock band, now’s the time you do.

Cherry Glazerr spent most of 2018 touring and preparing for the release of their latest album, Stuffed & Ready. The band played at 2018’s Coachella Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA and played many shows opening for Grammy Award-winning band, Portugal. the Man. After their appearance at Shabang Reborn, Cherry Glazerr is scheduled to go on to play big name festivals Bonnaroo, Outside Lands and Woodstock later this year. 

However, Cherry Glazerr is no stranger to the Shabang-esque humble beginnings. Cherry Glazerr was started as a solo bedroom-recording project under the name of “Clembutt” back in 2012 by lead singer, Clementine Creevy, who was only 15 at the time. Creevy was recording and uploading songs to Soundcloud when Burger Records (Fullerton, CA) co-founder, Sean Bohrman, discovered the tracks and eventually helped Cherry Glazerr release their first EP in 2013, Papa Cremp. Since then, Cherry Glazerr has gone on to release albums Haxel Princess, Apocalipstick, and Stuffed & Ready with record label Secretly Canadian, which also houses the likes of bands The War on Drugs and Whitney. And the crazy thing is, Creevy is only 22.

While youth is a defining element that makes Cherry Glazerr the impressive band that it is, your ears would never know. Both musically and lyrically, the band creates a smooth rock sound. Creevy uses her musical platform to combat sexism, sometimes subtly and sometimes transparently. In a Rolling Stone article featuring Cherry Glazerr as an “Artist You Need to Know,” Creevy said, “Feminism and music are the two things I’m passionate about. I try to keep my life anchored in those two things, because that’s when I feel most myself.”

Creevy described Cherry Glazerr’s most recent release, Stuffed & Ready, as her way of showing people who she is, more than she ever has before. The insecurities, the uncertainty and the anger is clear, while Cherry Glazerr’s typical satirical humor is also present. The song “Daddi” on the new record is a satirical take on patriarchy that could easily fly over listeners’ heads.

The feminist passion found in Cherry Glazerr’s music is just as apparent here in San Luis Obispo, and the two will meet for the first time at Shabang Reborn.
