“cheers!” danbi raises her bottle to clink it against joonki’s, the mischief in his smile reflecting in her own grin. “okay, i know i’m weak but not that weak. one sip isn’t a problem. maybe two sips would be a problem though.” she jokes, giving a chortle, and she brings the bottle up to her lips to take a sip. drumming her fingers against her thigh as she hums in thought, it takes her a while to ponder her options and respond to joonki’s challenge. both options sound fine to her, but right now, she feels like defying her friend’s expectations just for the heck of it. “i’m going to pick truth just because you said that.”

“ it’s definitely not a good time - you’re so heavy that i think i’ll pass out. ” from the grin on his face it’s evident he’s joking, poking her in the side to exemplify his playful nature. in true joonki fashion, her light tap causes him to feign pain, doubling over with a dramatic series of ows before quickly recovering. the idea of them maintaining their competitive nature, even in their older years, is humorous enough to create a round of cackles from joonki, shaking his head at the bizarre idea he’s suggested. “ you know what, i’m betting money it’ll be you who wins. after all, by then, all this drinking and eating’s gonna catch up with me. soon enough i’ll have a dad bod, just wait. ” with personalities like their’s, it’s hard to imagine a future in which they don’t keep up their antics, even in their older years.

he’s sure that all the houses lined up along the street are annoyed with the echoed laughs of chaos the two are passing off to the night sky, though he can’t find it in him to care when he’s having so much fun. her question catches him off guard, but it’s not long before the male meets danbi with a sly grin. “ you never know when you’re gonna need some spontaneous private time with someone, y’know what i mean ? ” he can barely say the sentence without bursting into laughs, cringing at his own lack of subtly. despite the underlying message behind his words, he’s very comfortable with danbi, and he means the phrase as more of a joke than to be taken seriously.

« i’m not really… a big fan of public displays like this to be honest… » her voice is apologetic and soft, so that the random people who are watching them can’t hear what she is saying.  « .the flowers are lovely, and i’m really grateful that you would do this,  but i don’t think it would be a good idea for me to accept these gifts. »

okay, so this wasn’t working as he anticipated. but even then, maybe expecting a grand reaction, full of praise would be too much. from his experience talking to her, it seems that jiah’s the quiet type, so ... he shouldn’t feel so bad, right ? so, despite her lackluster reaction, he grins, nodding at her first comment. “ well ... there’s a first time for everything, isn’t there ? ” his eyes are letting on to more than his words are, eyes tinted with that familiarly childish grin he wore. maybe he should tone down his antics a bit considering his personality, but it’s unlike joonki to be subtle about much of anything, even around someone like jiah.

“ i - excuse - huh ? ” it’s not exactly that joonki isn’t used to getting rejected, it just hasn’t happened anytime recently. though he put his effort into few things, he prided himself on his charm, and the other’s poor reception to it clearly has him baffled. “ jiah - i can’t take these things back, you know ? read the back of the card - really, no returns.  i ... was just saying that. ” he’s off his game a little bit, mostly due to the fact that he’s far too invested to be rejected in such a matter-of-fact way ... was she really declining so easily ? 

junhyung laughs. it was loud but awkward, with a tinge of amusement. “hanging in there? kinda.” if hanging in there meant getting himself knocked out every weekend then, yea, probably. “I do take care of myself though.” he breaks into a puckish grin, “every other day.” he snickers, rolling his hand into a cylindrical shape, pumping it suggestively. he laughs a little too hard and stumbles forward into the other, grabbing onto his shoulders to balance himself. “you?” he looks into his eyes and squints, “you look shy. it’s not because of me, right?” ·

holy shit. this was not what he’s expected to come out of tonight, and by the look on junhyung’s face, he feels the same way. the other’s recognition of him makes him only more sure that this indeed is not a hallucination, but a very odd reality that he has difficulty processing. he’s seen junhyung around campus - but the cinths had their parties, and he had his, and if he’s being honest, he’s spent the past few months avoiding going to the former in fear of this exact situation. except ... it’s not all too bad. at least, he hasn’t been face to face with him for a while, and it’s a sort of relief to really get a look at the face he’d started to adore over their short time together.·

“ wait, that’s mi - ” before he can protest, the drink he’s been holding is stripped from his hands and is downed by junhyung in mere seconds. this was the point where he was supposed to snatch the drink back. this was the part where he was supposed to pitch a fit. except, nothing comes out. all he can do is stare at junhyung with a sort of wide-eyed disbelief, marveling at the male in front of him. it was totally unlike him, but he’d realized long ago what an effect the sophomore had on him. but - no. nonono -·things left off where they should have, he tries to convince himself, though it does little for the wandering thoughts in his head. this was going to be a difficult situation to maneuver.

even a notion that things have been well with junhyung is enough to satisfy his worries, nodding with silent contentment. at first, the joke goes over his head, but it’s only when he looks up to see the lead gesture that he breaks into genuine laughter.·“ oh my gosh, you haven’t changed have you ? same terrible sense of humor, ” he teases, but his laughter only lasts for a few more seconds before a startled gasp takes it’s place. though he’s undoubtedly put off balance by the other’s crash, it doesn’t stop his hands from steadying the stumbling man with a hold on both arms. he’s frozen in surprise, but only for a second; by the time he hears the comment he recovers, letting go in evident embarrasment.

work is busy. she makes coffee and deals with customers and laughs with her co-workers. she ignores the ache in her back and the lightness in her head. she ignores the slight shake in her hand when she picks up her bag at the end of her shift. she ignores the weak feeling in her legs as she starts the walk back to her dorm. she just has to make it home. just has to… and then everything goes black and daisy faints, right into someone’s arms. joonki is used to people passing out - how could he not be ? there’s a dozen of people whom, just like the woman in front of him, take a fall for the worst after one too many drinks at his parties. because of it, he’s developed a superhuman sort of detection for those who are about to, as well as the instincts to catch them in time. he’s quite a few feet from the woman, but even from the opposite side of the sidewalk he knows that woozy look and stumble anywhere. 

so, without really thinking, he darts to where she’s headed, making it just in time for the female to land into his arms. oh god - what does he do ? he’d usually have some people around to help him, but from a quick scan around, there’s nobody nearby to help. “ oh god, did you drink ? it’s like, 4pm ! not gonna judge you, though - definitely been there. ” he’s being sincere, but also very dumb, considering the girl who his panicked words are directed to’s eyes are shut closed. his comments are proved wrong, however, as he notices she doesn’t smell like alcohol at all. in fact, what hits him isn’t the overwhelming scent of alcohol, but ... coffee ?

“we cannot cancel practice tomorrow, even if it rains. if anything, i read that running in the rain is actually good. plus, it could be really fun. if no one gets sick afterwards i might even consider it an absolute win.” the captain rambles on. when it comes to making decisions for the team, sometimes he just starts talking and hopes the statement eventually makes sense. and it often doesn’t. that’s why he needs joonki by his side. as much as they both like to goof around off the track, the young runner does have the ability to get serious when they absolutely need to. today being the exception. “oh, i’m up for it but it wouldn’t be fair. if you really want to go through with it, i suggest we do long jumps, seeing as that’s your thing. just don’t get injured.”

 “ hey, you wish ! don’t forget who’s the real king of the track. ” laughing alongside his friend, he points toward himself, a cocky grin spread over his features. despite his confident nature, he truly does admire the other for his own stamina, baekso the one person who he’d place as fit for the track captain above him. after all, his years of practice are showing, as he is seemingly unphased by what was definitely a rough practice. “ hey, you’re starting to sound like someone’s mom, y’know ? ” trying to brush off the concern, he swats at baekso, as if to remove his worry.  “ listen, i’ll be fine. and if you don’t believe me -  ” on command, he jumps up, followed by a childish little laugh. even if practice was getting to him, joonki was going to put it aside if that’s what it took to relieve baekso’s concerns and ensure he got to run. “ see ? spry as always ! y’can’t get rid of your star player yet, captain. ”

“ oh and i got black hair dye for myself. i’m tired of being blonde. also, i might do that thing where they keep like the bangs bleached, you know ? ” jiwoo adds, hovering the parts of her hair that she plans on not dyeing black with her hand as if to better illustrate her idea. having e-girl hair was not a thing she was ever planning on doing but, honestly, she really doesn’t hate the idea. tik tok truly is the worst and most addictive drug that there is on this planet. maybe even entire universe. “ i’m going to ask you one last time. just to make sure. ” she says, placing all the hair dyeing supplies in front of them. “ do you really want to do this ? because if your hair falls off, it’s not my problem. ”

had joonki ever expected to be sitting on the cold tile of jiwoo’s floor, with the promises of having a whole new hairstyle by this time tomorrow ? no ... however, he couldn’t say the spontaneity of it all didn’t have him excited. being new friends with jiwoo had proven to be an unexpected adventure in itself, and today was a testament to that. curiously, his eyes dart across the many hair supplies as he tries to decipher each’s purpose, processing the female’s words. admittedly, he isn’t too well-versed in the field of hair, but he’s willing to learn from her. he’s evidently happy at her choices, giving a satisfied hum of consent as she mentions the blue hair dye. “ i’m gonna look so cool - do you think we’ll become tiktok famous by the time this is all over ? we better. ” though his words are determined, his tone is a lot more relaxed. though the idea is a satisfying one, he’s content as it is with the promises of jiwoo delivering an “ e-boy makeover ”.

“ dude ... you’re gonna look so badass. you’d be a campus legend if you do that, you know ? i haven’t seen anyone in real life have that, but you could definitely pull it off. ” though blonde wasn’t too daring of a color choice, jiwoo’s hair color was far more adventurous than he’d ever had, never having colored his hair prior to today. therefore, he could far easily imagine her being able to pull off the eccentric style, nodding with vehement encouragement.

the pair amble over to the cashier, and she nods along to joonki’s words, her smile only growing wider. when she sets the snacks down on the counter, she glances over at her friend, an impish glint in her eyes. “come on, you already know i’m down for absolutely anything, at anytime.”

danbi’s help allows joonki’s body to relax a little, sighing in relief as he gives a hurried thanks for the help. her comment has him instantly laughing, however, as he shakes his head in amusement. “ mm, got it ! we’ve gotta keep the fun lasting as long as possible, and i don’t see dragging you back home at 2am as my idea of a good time. ” though he’s not a lightweight himself, he’s got her in mind in the back of his head, so he’ll be sure to watch how far she takes things. he likes partying as much as anything else, but the last thing he wanted was for her to be past the point of functioning.

as he hands the bills to the cashier, he sneaks a glance in danbi’s direction, an approving grin taking over as he listens to her agreement. “ you know, i might have other friends i have fun with, but i think you’re the only one who’s up to speed with me. we’ll be doing this until we’re all old and wrinkly, right ? ” the idea has him crinkling his nose, entertained by the wild idea he’s suggested. with a lifestyle like his he doesn’t anticipate growing old and settling down as some might, but the idea of staying close with his college friends is a heartwarming one. 

almost getting too lost in his thoughts, he shakes off the idea, taking the bags from the worker and nodding in the direction of the door. “ let’s go - the night is still young ! ” providing a loud and out of tune singing, despite still being in the company of the cashier, joonki links arms with danbi and takes off into the night. without a proper location in mind, he settles on enjoying their purchased meal while they wander around. joonki figures drinking on the streets will cause a bit of a scene, so settles for a quieter road where they won’t be scolded, awkwardly maneuvering the bags before opening two bottles, handing one to the other 

— “ dude, my calves are killing me. how can you stand right now ? ” wincing, the male leans down to rub the back of his leg, looking to the other’s cool composure with envy. following a rather painful workout earlier that morning, he’s pulled a muscle, and though he usually wasn’t one to complain he couldn’t deny the throbbing that couldn’t seem to disappear. once he stands upright again he’s facing baekso, and despite the pain, he meets the other with a tight grin. “ but don’t get me wrong ! i’m ready as ever for the next relay - these legs are made of steel, baekso. ” 

he’s evidently more relaxed than he is during practice, and the reason why is that the two are the only ones that occupy the large track. it feels odd, used to the whole team joining them, and having the sounds of running footsteps to keep his ears company. but today was an off day for the team, yet joonki and baekso had decided to kick back and do a little pre-competition planning. though ... they weren’t exactly as productive as they’d anticipated. “ do you think we should cancel practice tomorrow ? i heard it’s gonna rain pretty hard, but ... we need the practice, don’t you think ? ” the runner’s eyes then travel from his companion to the track in front of them, before a devious grin comes to his lips, clearly having an idea in mind. “ or ... if you’re up for it, we can battle it out on the track, like real athletes. ”

— it’s no secret that joonki takes any chance he can get to snag a date. and honestly ? he was fairly confident in his talent in the field of seduction. after all, he feels he’s had a massive glow-up since his teenage years, and he’d had more than enough practice to make him sure of his skills. but there’s one particular person on the seongnam campus who will hardly give him the time of day - yoo jiah. was it his hair ? his clothes ? his habits ? he couldn’t seem to find out. the most depressing part was that she was friendly enough, but never crossing the line beyond just polite to make him feel like he had a real chance. it was incredibly upsetting to him, as joonki adores all the things that he’s not allowed to have.

it’s only when joonki sends himself into a hopeless slump does joonki come up with his “ genius ” plan. basically snu’s class clown, the boy is known for not being taken seriously, and settles on the idea that that was his problem. maybe he was too childish for her style ? jiah was the kind of girl joonki found himself drawn to - smart, ambitious, confident. but at the same time, very few with those traits would want to spend their time with a lackadaisical jokester like him. so what does he do ? thinks of the most exaggerated idea ever, consisting of flowers, an edible arrangement, a plush animal, and a grinning joonki who’s struggled to catch up with her after spotting her on the quad. the soft boy approach was his very last chance, so it had to work.  “ jiah, wait up ! ” he calls, panting from the many items in his arms. “ incoming delivery, from your’s truly ! ”

— joonki is a party host, for sure. but there were other nights reserved for the times where he wants to kick back and relax, and this was one of those times. without the pressure of hosting and keeping the partygoers entertained, he’s as content as can be, a buzz settling in as the alcohol disappearing from his cup begins to settle in. though he's still in control of his actions, he feels the substance providing him with a sense of freedom that few other things can provide. a little too free, maybe, because he thrashes around one too many times, and finds himself crashing into the person next to him.  definitely not an uncommon occurrence, he says a quick apology, nodding in the direction of the other as his eyes open to meet their’s —  wait, was that junhyung ? what the - 

“ fuck, ” is the first thing he can manage to say out loud, eyes widening with immediate recognition of the male he’s landed his eyes on. it was a face he’d grown very familiar with last summer, as the wave of memories involving breathy kisses and interlocked hands. junhyung is an instant memory of a secret he’s been trying to keep buried for the past few months, and reality is hitting him like a ton of bricks. he’s seen him around campus since their brief fling, but it’s only in this moment that he’s really had to come face to face with the person who he’d shared all those intimate moments with. “ i - wait - junhyung ? ” is all he’s able to say, a series of fragmented thoughts following each other. he’s evidently caught off guard, resulting in his unusually quiet nature, taking a sip from his red solo every few seconds. “ so ... you been, hanging in there ? taking care of yourself ? ”

— IT WAS NEARING 4AM, but for joonki, the night is still young. and if the grin on his partner in crime’s face is genuine, than she is too. despite wandering the streets in the very late hours, they’ve only just begun, the male calling his friend DANBI up for a late-night adventure out of the blue. he’s sure the many random calls didn’t even come as a surprise anymore, as the female was his go-to in almost every situation that involved an adventure. he knew that she would be down, so it’s no surprise that only a few minutes after his original call he’s walking through the aisles of a 7 / 11, one hand full with a collection of snacks and the other holding an entire case of soju.

“ do you drink ? because honestly, think i might wipe this whole thing out - all by myself ! ” he’s ( hopefully ) joking, as the case he’s holding has 12 bottles within it, quite literally a recipe for disaster if he intends on drinking them by himself. he’s counting on danbi to have the other snacks he couldn’t carry, as he’s already struggling with what he has that his usual casual walk has been replaced for a panicked wobble. “ anyways, i’m thinking once we get everything out of here we can just see where the night takes us. just ... get into some sort of mess, like we always do. ” joonki had grown used to the areas around seongnam after enrolling, but the city’s many spots always seemed more interesting at night - especially when his friend was there to join in on the fun. “ so, what d’you say ? wanna join me for a little midnight sightseeing ? ”
