BASIC TRAINING SURVIVAL TIP - HURT OR INJURED - TAG Your Battle-Buddies - ASK YOURSELF, AM I HURT OR AM I INJURED? If you can deal with minor to moderate pain or discomfort do so. There’s a line in which your hurt or injured. If injured definitely seek medical attention. For Example: A Battle Buddy of mine in BCT complained of pain in his shins. Said himself it wasn’t too bad but felt the need to make sure. Said it was painful but could deal with it and keep going. He went to sick call and the Doctor deemed he had STRESS FRACTURES which is quite common in Basic Combat Training and they ultimately discharged him from the Army. He was so mad and said himself it wasn’t that bad and he could have kept going but now he had no choice. AGAIN, seek medical attention if needed but only if you genuinely feel it’s necessary for those reasons. If you’re hurt, keep going but if injured, seek help. Remember the more training you miss will risk you of being Recycled or Discharged. BASIC TRAINING SURVIVAL TIP - SICK CALL - TAG Your Battle-Buddies - By NO MEANS am I saying never go on Sick Call but I do want you to keep in mind the following information in the forefront of you mind. ONLY go on sick call if it’s absolutely necessary. Sick Call is if you think you need to see a Doctor for any reason you will inform your Drill Sergeant and they will have you wake up an hour earlier to board a Van with the others. You’ll go see a Doctor and take it from there and then go back to training. Hopefully they don put you on Profile which restricts you from certain things. Let’s say the Dr gives you a No Running Profile and that day you’re doing training that requires you to run. You won’t be authorized to participate and you’ll miss out on training and if you miss too much training and cannot make that training up, you risk being recycled. FLEX FRIDAY- (OPAT) STANDING LONG JUMP - DBL Tap & TAG Your Friends if you like my Tips and find them useful! - PVT Santos demonstrates the Standing Long Junp during our last OPAT Evaluation this past RSP Drill. The Standing Long jump isn’t that hard. Squat by bending your knees and bending at the hips. Rock backwards and forwards heal to toe. Uses your arms by throwing them in the direction you’re jumping for extra momentum by leaning forward and launch yourself forward and plant your feet during the landing. Do not hop, stumble or fall over or that attempt will not count. You can practice this at any local gym or from home. Practice technique and you’ll be just fine. SOLDIER TIP THURSDAY - WORK ETHIC - DBL Tap & TAG Your Friends if you like my Tips and find them useful! - Always be up on time (15min. prior), be in the correct uniform, have a positive attitude and obviously, good work ethic. Don't be that lazy soldier who never strives for greatness. Never strive or settle for the minimum standards. No one likes a lazy Soldier who always does the minimum of what is expected of them. Always go above and beyond in everything you do. Do your absolute BEST in anything you do. Even as a civilian. Good work ethic and a positive attitude can get you much further in life in comparison to a negative one and saying, thats not my job... thats not my job. Drill Sergeants are going to be EXTREME during Red Phase or the first three weeks before they back off a bit. They will yell at you, make you feel intimidated wearing that Campaign (DS Hat), force you out of your comfort zone, make you feel a type of way, confuse you and break you down as an individual. Don’t take any offense to how they deliver there message to you. They’re not yelling at you but at your uniform rather. So never take it to heart. They’re just messing with your mind, attempting to stress you out and build you into a hard, bad ass Soldier and be ready to kick ass when our country needs you! Don’t take it personal. BASIC TRAINING SURVIVAL TIP TUESDAY - MIND GAME - DBL Tap & TAG Your Friends if you like my Tips and find them useful! - Don't be easily offended! Develop or have thick skin. They are professionals and it's all part of Basic Training. So, don't take it personal. If you do, you will have a tougher experience. You will be yelled at. You will be confused. You will get frustrated. You will make mistakes. Others will make mistakes. No matter who made the mistake, you ALL will pay for it collectively. It's called mass punishment or corrective training. Just be prepared to do a lot of push ups. The first three weeks during Red Phase is the toughest. Just get through that phase and training will ease up a bit but not by much. Yes, the Army wants you to be mentally tough and adaptable soldiers. To be able to adapt, adjust and overcome a stressful environment. Don't let it get to you. This is the part training and the rest of your Army career will not be like this. Don't get mad at each other if one of you slips up or your Drill Sergeant says something in a tone of voice you don’t appreciate. It doesn't matter who messed up because the drill sergeants will always find something messing up. Keeping this in perspective makes day to day life at BasicTraining a little less frustrating. The worst of the yelling is during Red Phase. It’s when the Drill Sergeants are getting very little sleep. Getting there before you wake up, tucking you in at night, breaking you down as individuals, setting the tone and Drill Sergeants want you to TRUST THE PROCESS.
