It hasn’t been a week since Tumblr completely shit the bed with their new ban on “female-presenting nipples.”

But this just doesn’t effect women, it has an impact on us all. We are slowly witnessing the disappearance of the freedom of speech. It has been a slow encroachment on us. While we have BEGGED Tumblr, until we are bleeding out of our eyes, for their staff to take bullying seriously, to take stalking seriously, to take copyright seriously. Nope, they focused on nipples, specifically female nipples.

And I am not the only one that has taken issue with their total blind approach to customer service. So has The Guardian, Gizmodo, Washington Post, BBC, another from The Guardian, Huffington Post, CNN Business, another from Gizmodo, Wired, Slate, SYFY Wire, Buzzfeed, even Wil Wheaton is pissed off. @wilwheaton for those who don’t follow him, he is like my social media spirit animal.

If you read through all of those articles, you get a sense of the complete impact of this ban. I even had a link that pointed to an article critical of Tumblr’s decision flagged for removal. So the ban on speech has clearly moved into the political.

The site we are working on is heading to become a safe place for everyone, especially those trying to overcome mental health issues and acceptance, endless cat memes, car blogs, fans, fandoms and more fandoms. Yes, we will always have that wink-to-kink, but that can’t be our total world. Yes, this whole started as a reaction to the banning of adult content but it is NOT just about adult content, that was just the last straw. We all have been on the ass end of Tumblr’s hateful and mean-spirited policies for years. Last week, it all came to a rather frothy head with “female-presenting nipples.” Clearly Yahoo’s Board of Directors are in charge, not the adults. Adults seem to be in limited supply in Tumblr’s C-Suites these days. Kinda like Congress, but that rant I don’t have time for today.

But back to the replacement site… here are some updates;

We found a host, we have CMS software installed, we have the dependency packages installed and we are working on getting all the bits and bobs to play well together.

A landing page will be up tomorrow. I have been threatened by an army of tickle bears to have this done. It may not be our final URL, but it will do for now.

The site name will not be kink specific, it will be welcoming to all; from grandmas with recipes to fanfic writers to evolutionary microbiologists… then nipples - endless waves of nipples that will threaten to drown you in their nippily and buttery goodness.

We have a channel for those looking for volunteer jobs.

If that link doesn’t work, go to Discord and open an account, then try the link again. If it STILL doesn’t work, wait a bit and try again. Some people have had to do this three times to get in. This is a Discord issue and the only workaround I know of is just to keep trying.

Some good news, I’ve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community.

I’m not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you it’s mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (It’s not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. It’s not Pillowfort, that’s in closed beta. It’s not Ello, that’s mainly for artists. It’s not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. It’s not jux, that seems to be closed. It’s not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.)

One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they don’t want a “land grab” where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site.

The plan is, broadly:

1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there

2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions.

3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool.

4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any “flagged” posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th.

Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons.

There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new.

The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place.

If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become “your” original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site.

Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh.

(Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - that’s just too much to do, in the short time available.)

If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site.

If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the gridllr.com webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog.

(Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. It’s best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.)

If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If it’s reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days.

Sometimes all I need is for him to be there. It’s a hard thing for me to admit. I’m more likely to gently, quietly suggest that mayyyyybe it would be nice to have more of him. Maybe. And the more I need him, the less willing I am to say so.

I started a new job a couple weeks ago. And the day before, I was freaking out. Not sure what to wear or whether I was ready. Stressing about every detail. I am good at putting on a brave face, but change is hard for me. And Sir knows it. So the night before, he offered to meet me for coffee that morning.

me: Sir, you don’t have to do that. I’ll be fine. Him: Happy to do so. Maybe a good hug will calm you down and get you centered. me: I always like to see your face. It’s really not necessary though. I’m a big girl. Him: You are MY big girl. But I really don’t like the thought of you full of anxiety. <long pause> me: I guess this is the part where I just say, “yes, Sir.” Him: Good girl.

And so the next morning, a nervous little girl walked into a coffee shop wearing very grownup clothes and feeling a bit out of place. Then Sir walked in. He smiled at me the way that he does when his heart is overflowing, and I knew it was all okay. He sat down next to me, and he was beaming. He told me how proud he was and how professional I looked. Said he felt a little like he was sending me off for my first day of school. Asked if I had a juice box in my bag. I’m sure I blushed. 

Then he got out a pen and grabbed my hand. It tickled a little as the tip of the pen moved over my skin.

“Now, this is a little cheesy. But. When you are feeling nervous or overwhelmed today, I want you to cross your fingers. And think of me behind you, wrapping my arms around you.”

He crossed my fingers. I looked down and saw two smiling faces, with one wrapping arms around the other. And in those faces, I could see our lazy moments curled up in bed. Big spoon and little spoon. Collared and cuffed, with his hands holding my wrists while we slept. I could see the way he smiles at me when I sit on the floor and play with the dog. I could see his eyes as he claims me, telling me he chooses me. Telling me we will make this work. All day I stared at those little happy fingers, crossing them when they needed a hug. And all day I felt him with me.

Sometimes D/s isn’t spanking and fucking. Sometimes it’s just presence. With the new job, we’ve had less time together than we had before. But these little happy fingers show me that he doesn’t have to be with me to be with me. A quick note, pictures, a phone call, giving or denying permission—these are all ways I feel his love and ownership. I am still his property, and he is still my Owner. And when I can’t feel his hand on my throat, feeling his presence makes all the difference in the world.
