Always.
The Tyger (1794) William Blake
Giving > Taking
If there’s one thing my life has shown me, it’s to keep giving.
I spent years of my life taking. I guess I thought the world owed me something, maybe because I didn’t have the greatest childhood, or my Dad didn’t love me enough, or whatever bullshit excuse I told myself. I was never given much, so I took what I wanted because that somehow made me feel better. I took a lot in my teenage years. From girls, from strangers, from all kinds of people.
One day I looked in the mirror, and I realised that if I kept taking, and kept taking, and continued to keep taking, then eventually I’d run out of things to take, or people to take from, and that’s not what I really wanted, because all I ever wanted was to be loved and accepted. I just wanted people to be proud of me, and to respect the person that I am.
So I guess that’s what growing up was for me - the realisation that the way I treated people because I was never loved, respected, or accepted by people when I was younger, could have me searching for those things for the rest of my life and still come up empty handed.
What I’m trying to say is, we all need to keep giving. Don’t let the fact that some people won’t appreciate it get you down, or deter you from giving. Don’t let selfishness destroy your selflessness. If you keep giving, no matter how selfish someone is, eventually, even if it’s on their death-bed, or in their next life, they’ll come to realise what you gave, and it might just be the turning point for them to start giving too.
We’re living in a world full of takers, and the givers are giving up, I see it every day as I walk the streets of the city. Our whole society is closing off as more and more people let the selfishness of others stop them from opening up and giving. We all end up guarding ourselves, or expecting that it’s our turn to be given to, or whatever other excuse we have.
So look at yourself and think - who am I going to give to today? Whose life am I going to brighten? Whose life can I enrich in some magical and unexpected way? Because if we don’t all start appreciating each other, and don’t keep giving to each other, we’ll just create a society full of people who expect the world to do them a favour, just because no one else ever did.
Then you could be stuck with a bunch of teenage ‘William Jiraiya's’, and I’m telling you right now, that’s a bad idea for everyone. I fucking sucked in so many ways when I was younger, but it got me here today, and for all the people who gave me a helping hand along the way, I will be eternally grateful, and I will keep giving for the rest of my life because of all of the magical people that walked into my life and showed me how fulfilling a selfless act can be.
Some people spend their entire lives taking, they expect everyone to love them simply for existing. Some people don’t even know how to give, because they’ve spent their whole lives being fucked over by other people. This sort of cycle can breed generations of self-centred narcissists, constantly taking from everyone and everything because it’s their only way to fill the empty void inside of them.
I say we need to give to all these people. Give to everyone. Keep giving. Keep showing compassion to those who you may even deem unworthy, because from what I have seen, it is those people who need it the most.
We all need compassion.
I think deep down we all want the same thing, to be loved, accepted and respected. It’s a simple aspiration and it’s an achievable one, and if everyone took the time to treat people how they really want to be treated themselves, eventually it’s going to pay off for everyone.
It’s a cliche concept, and it’s nothing new, but for some reason it’s still not a common practice in our current society so I’m writing this piece to highlight my personal view and to open up my own heart and thoughts on the matter.
I’m just a regular guy who used to be an asshole, who’s trying my hardest to be the best person I can be. I guess that’s something we can all try to do.
Let’s not let selfishness destroy our selflessness.

I always forget what I say in interviews and then I see them and realize what a turd I am. But these are still pretty cool.
Vicki is cool, she seems a really smart person to me and her dog is cute af.Tiia is cool too, I'm jealous she lives in finland damn pretty land, also girls who like hokey are the best.Jaymz is cool he was one of my first followers years ago and also jealous that he lives in CA. Michael has everything private cant tell anything about him, his tumblr makes me sad but his vinyl collection is sick i'm really jealous. Shelby is cool too i like her cat and that she does not give af what others think
Hahaha yes! Each of them is so unique. I'm excited every time I know I'll see them.
I just checked some of the names you named earlier. Not sure if I found the right PPL but I'm pretty sure. I really like knowing their stories even though it's weird i know. I think you've got some really cool people around you. I am jealous.
We all have cool people around us when we take the time to listen.
I have a fangirl crush on Zach. Is he as cool as his face is adorable?
Cooler. He's my best friend and being in the band with him has been a hell of an experience.

Did I just got blamed for saying the truth? There are alot of People out there who still see it the same way I do. This is special treatment! If it's right or not is a different theme. And all these Fangirls appeared on your shows right after you became big, 2013 I guess. Always the first & last at shows, always first row, always with Smartphones. Just try to crowd surf or whatever and they'll gonna punch you in the nuts. But yeah it's totally ok cause they're so kewl
I don't care if it's someone first or fortieth show, I'm grateful that they have chosen to spend their time with us. However an individual chooses to enjoy their show experience is up to them. I ALWAYS showed up early and waited in line and worked my way to the barrier at shows. Other people want to wait and only show up for the band they like. To each their own. I can only speak for myself but most of the friends I've met as fans of the band have been around with us for a long time. Some are acquaintances I snap a picture with when we play a show, some are like family and I conduct their weddings. At the end of the day, I think I'M the normal person and these people that are so passionate and connected to our music are the exceptional ones. I can't understand how I could possibly act any way other than humbled, thankful, and friendly when I am lucky enough to meet them and hear the stories about how our little band has impacted their life. Do you want us to be less nice and less accessible? There are already enough rockstar dickheads in the world and I'm glad we aren't adding to that.
You're never around at shows in Vienna or sometimes I'm at shows in Germany too. It's probably because we're not the US and don't speak English. And now you'll say, contact us. If i would get some respond I may would consider it, but after all the times I got let down. All these 'Friends' are from the US, coincidence? I don't think so, should be there some 'Friends' from German/austria theyre at least not such damn Posers. I'm not going to shows anymore. Ticket EU 30€~ /US 15$ I know not up to u
Typically when we play Vienna I go into the city exploring because it's one of the most incredible places in the world, and the same is true of most of the cities we are lucky enough to visit. I do have friends in Austria and Germany, but the language barrier definitely makes it more difficult to meet new people. Shows are expensive. I wish they weren't. But I think we try pretty hard to give you your tickets worth.
You said you haven't forgotten what it's like to be a fan of music. So then you should know that there are always People on shows who got special treatment. That's just unfair to all others. Ok they had a long way to shows but even just a 1h drive to a show would deserve it in my eyes. There are like 100k People who shared this journey with you. What makes exactly them special? Probably not that some 16-20 yr old kids are you friends, you got their contacts and be in touch with them every day?
I thank every person I meet for coming to a show or sharing in this adventure with us in whatever capacity. Special treatment? No. There are people that have been to lots of shows that I only recognize by their face. Those people are every bit as important and special to me as the handful of people that have also transcended into becoming my friends. If it was possible for me to get to know every one of those 100k people, I would. Every time around the country or around the world I go out of my way to enjoy the people I already know but also to get to know new people. I value the story of every person that wants to share it with me. There are only so many hours in each day and I have many responsibilities outside of being a guy in the band. If you want to share your story with me, turn off the gray face and do it. I am intrigued to know why you feel so personally slighted by the fact that I have friends.

The definition of slotting it home. Morgan!
Some people travel really far to be on your shows and do a lot to be your friends. Others pretend to do the same even though they're just scumbags.. they pretend to like the kings/red wings or whatever. It's easier for girls to do that cuz they have this 'boob bonus'. Hope you know what people I mean and pls sort them out.
i haven't the faintest idea what you mean by sort ‘them’ out.

I saw my own name on your long essay post and thought I needed to say something too. I have never asked you guys to put me on the guest list, and I am always as amused when Vigil tells me he's going to put me on it. but as he once told me, it's the kind thing to do after I travel 500 km down south and use rest of my money on planes/trains and hotels. paying for a show is literally the smallest portion of my whole trip, and even if you didn't put me on list, I'd still be there to see my fav band.
^^^ tiia lives above the arctic circle (she's spoiled and sees the aurora all the time) and when she comes to our shows she spends an entire day traveling to spend an hour with us. list for life.
Of course you grateful for every tour, its your living ^^.I still think music is a hard business with a lot asslicking, but I don't see any point anymore to support that. You don't see what a 'normal' person see's on a show and no one really gives a fuck about that. Bands just continue doing their stuff, venues just want get paid and fans only want more breakdown and more shit bands they blame you when you don't have any tattoos or stretched ears or wear some cool band stuff. People are selfish.
then this part. so you dont think i wrote an essay about nothing.
