@soratakenouchiweek: Day 6: Fashion
(Based on a fanfiction I once wrote about Sora helping Koushirou to find an outfit for their school festival, based on my headcanon that our favourite Digimon redheads are pretty much destined to be fashion buddies and that it was a huge missed opportunity that it wasn’t given more screentime!)
“Sora-han, do you already know what you will wear for the festival?”, Motimon asked.
Sora blinked and Koushirou wasn’t any less perplexed at that sudden change of topic.
“Me? Oh, well…”, she hesitated, but Pyocomon nudged her lightly, squishy tendrils stroking her hand, a thrilled glimmer in her eyes, as she obviously knew more than the rest of them. “I do have something in mind. This isn’t my first time at this store and I saw something the other day that got me interested, maybe with a few tweaks and changes, but…”
“Would you like to show us?”, Motimon asked so quickly that Koushirou felt a little surge of admiration towards him like many, many times before. The small Digimon, usually in his robotic ladybug form, had no issue in recognizing and addressing self-consciousness, so Koushirou had a faint idea where he was coming from now. This was a situation he was very familiar with after all, so he observed Sora’s reaction carefully.
“It’s… Again, it may be a bit embarrassing. Part of me still thinks I should go for a traditional dress. That’s what is expected, right? But… Another part of me just… Wants to try something that’s… A little more outside the box.”
“I don’t think that it’s embarrassing at all”, Koushirou said firmly. “Processing new information can be overwhelming at first, but as soon as the uncertainty is overcome, it’s all worth it. Besides… It can’t be any more embarrassing than creating your own app to figure out suitable clothing for yourself…”
“Are you saying that you made an app that tells you how to dress?”
As light-hearted as her astonishment was, he was proud – and a tiny bit ashamed – that he was able to confess that little “secret” towards her too. Opening up to others was not a race… Even if it made him tap his leg slightly.
“Koushirou-kun, listen… I knew you were capable of many amazing things, but that is beyond impressive, even for you. And incredibly practical. Nothing to be embarrassed about wanting to look good in something you’re comfortable with when you don’t know where to start.”
“Then… Having your own idea of what you do want to wear isn’t embarrassing either, it’s just on the other end of the spectrum. If all of this here taught me anything, then it’s that you don’t have to wear a dress, if that’s not what you feel comfortable in.”
“… Do you really want to see it?”, she finally asked, her eyes a little weary – and maybe even a little watery –, but now he could at least tell that his words had reached her properly. This was his chance to take a step forward, to give it all back, to be there for her, here and now.
“Gladly”, he said with all the warmth he could gather and both Motimon and Pyocomon nodded eagerly.
“Please, Sora, let us see it, you need to be more confident!”
Upon hearing that, she shook her head with a defeated smile, patting her own knees before standing up.
“Alright, alright… You got me. Just, please… Promise me something.”
“Tell me your honest opinion about it. Whatever it is that comes to your mind, the first word, it’s perfectly okay if you don’t name anything specific about design aspects, I just want to hear your initial impression”, she explained with an expression that seemed torn between determination and her very own flight instinct.
Koushirou smiled reassuringly.
“I promise, I will do my best.”
With that said, she quickly walked into the other direction of the store just to return not even two minutes later with a bundle of dark blue fabric in her arms and rushed right into the cabin next to Koushirou’s.
All three of them looked at the curtain with anticipation – and three jaws dropped simultaneously when she finally decided to lift it.
At first glance, it looked like she was wearing a normal Summer dress; dark blue in colour, as he had noted before, transparent shoulder straps leading to a heart-shaped décolleté. Around her waist was a subtle, belt-like clasp in the same colour. Underneath, as transparent as the shoulder straps, was a veil of flowy fabric – which was the main reason why it appeared to be a dress in the first place. Once she took two steps towards them, changing her angle a bit and pulling at the fabric, a soft blush on her cheeks, it became clear that it was a pantsuit, legs being wide enough to leave her room to move freely and comfortably.
“Oooooh, you’re so gorgeous!”, Pyocomon squealed and Koushirou was thoroughly amazed by his friend in front of him. In sum, it was still a very feminine look, both highlighting and defining her curves in a very mature, sophisticated and practical way. Fashion sense or not, he could tell that she looked beautiful – and very much like you, came to his mind. He certainly was able to pick up patterns after all.
“I honestly believe this is a brilliant way to think ‘outside the box’. And it’s definitely something very suitable for the Sora-san I know.”
“Now, now, Koushirou-han”, Motimon elbowed him, trying to push him a little. “Tell her that she looks nice already!”
“W-well, that too! Very nice.”
That managed to make her giggle, wiping at her eyes very briefly.
“Thank you so much, Koushirou-kun. I think I really needed to hear that…”
“I have to thank you. For everything.”
