DIR EN GREY / Kaoru About the possibility of the emergency state being extended to June 「 I think there’ll be bands that will be playing lives 」

About the new album: As of early April 2021, Kaoru says that the next Dir en grey album hasn’t progressed enough to figure out a direction for it yet. They want to make a deep album though, so we couldn’t speculate on the image of the next album just from the two singles out so far.

When deciding which song would be the next single, Oboro was chosen because it was more of a ballad instead of two other songs that are also ballad-y melodious but that have a higher tempo. We can expect those songs on the album, most likely!

Oboro was the one song with a melody that Kyo really loved the most in the tentative songs. Also, the reason why Dir en grey opted for such a single is because apparently people were shocked to see Kyo perform a less “fierce” song like his collab with SUGIZO, as if they didn’t know that Dir en grey could produce such a sound. In that sense, they were seeking to be gentler on the ear and put forth something a bit different as a promotional single. 

In Kaoru’s opinion, Rinkaku is not a ballad, and the last time Dir en grey used a ballad as a single goes way back to ain’t afraid to die in 2001. 

Probably not new information, but Kyo originally composed The Domestic Fucker Family with a bass line, which I think is how most songs were written back then.
