Got to meet the Broadway Radio legend, Seth Rudetsky, after #disasterthemusical last night!! Congrats to him on writing such a fantastic, hilarious show!! đ
It has developed and now it has a mind of its own. You can read the text on the page but it develops beyond the written word. Luckily, Seth and Jack are so secure, they welcome that kind of input from me and my fellow cast mates. She is so dark and there are so many layers beyond what you initially see. Itâs so fun to pull back her outer layers every night. Sheâs one of those people that you find in life, where you say, âWhat happened to them?â The thing I love about her the most, like people in general, are the things we find least lovable about ourselves; the dark, gooey center.

Darren Criss explaining the razor scene in H2$ (4/19/16)
April 19, 2016 [x|x|x|x|x|x|x|x|x|x]
just got a tiny bit of the encore
You and Me (but mostly me) @ Parker Playhouse 4/19/2016
Some fun facts that I learned about Darren at Seth Rudetskyâs Broadway Concert Series last night:
- Heâs allergic to dogs
- He and Mia collect 70s rock memorabilia and display it throughout their house in LA
- Â His first major purchase thanks to the money he gained through Glee was half household stuff like pots and pans for he and his roommate, but mostly Nerf guns and Star Wars Legos
- He retains facts like a champ but canât remember the lyrics to Wicked Little Town, per usual
Also he sang You and Me (But Mostly Me) with Seth as his Cunningham for their encore and it topped off my night perfectly

IâM DEAD
Hearing @thatsthat24 on the Broadway channel today was honestly life changing. Hearing the full story of his career is something that people donât often get from just watching his vines and only get a small window into in his YouTube videos. He has been such an inspiration and his ambition and drive will get him far, Iâm so so sure of it. And even though I donât know him, I feel as if I would love him if I ever did meet him. The Internet community is finally getting the recognition it deserves in more and more avenues of media and Iâm so happy happy Thomas got his chance to share his wonderful self with the world via Seth Rudetsky tonight :)
(via Amy on Seth Rudetskyâs âSeth Speaks!â)
I couldnât be MORE excited to be a guest on Seth Rudetskyââs awesome SiriusXM Radioâ show Seth Speaks on Sirius XMâ! Â Itâs airing all weekend - and the interview is in this post too - check it out! Â Letâs just say that this guy made all of my musical theatre dork dreams come true!!! https://www.amyoes.com/2016/04/23/seth-speaks/

Hairspray reunion at Disaster! The Musical (April 13, 2016)
The audience at Parker Playhouse received quite a treat Tuesday night with the final performance of the Broadway Concert Series, which featured actor and musician Darren Criss with curator and accompanist Seth Rudetsky, whose own show can be heard on Sirius XMâs On Broadway station. The pair brought both laughs and talents into theater with a combination of discussion and performance.

Currently on Broadway in the musical âDisaster!ââwhich he co-wrote with Jack PlotnickâRudetsky was the first to take the stage. Though he was slightly heartbroken as this was the first night he was missing âDisaster!,â and his understudy was going on for him. However, Rudetsky said he was dedicated to this series and made sure that he came to the show.
As Criss first entered the stage, screams of teenagers and young adults alike resounded through the auditorium, which is not usually the norm for a Broadway concert. Nevertheless, âGleeâ fans came out to see the star of the hit FOX musical series. And it helped that Criss started the show with âSomethingâs Coming,â which his character, Blaine Anderson, performed on the show.
Also in attendance were fans of StarKid, the incredibly popular theatre company that Criss helped create at the University of Michigan. Criss is known for writing and starring as Harry Potter in âA Very Potter Musicalâ and its two sequels. During the show, Criss mentioned that he is currently working on writing the next StarKid production while also joking that he only gets fame after starring in roles that Daniel Radcliffe performed firstâa nod to his Broadway debut replacing Radcliffe in âHow to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.â
Criss and Rudetsky hammed it up while they chatted between songs in a set of chairs on the opposite side of the stage from the piano that Rudetsky used for performances. They talked about everything from Criss not being Jewish or Italian, as he often gets mistaken for (heâs actually Filipino and Irish), to how Criss never actually wanted to do musical theatre but ended up there anyway.
One thing that both men seemed passionate about was the talent that is on Broadway and how even though performers seem to come out of nowhere, theyâve been exceptional for many years and it just takes one role to make a person.
As they were mentioning this fact, they brought up the example of how two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster was a chorus girl for many years and was brought out to play Millie in âThoroughly Modern Millie,â which cemented her star status. Rudetsky also mentioned that he worked on the revival of âGreaseâ in 1994 and audiences were so mad when Rosie OâDonnell, who played Rizzo, would be out and her understudy would be in. The understudy was Megan Mullally, who is now a two-time Emmy winner for âWill & Graceâ but was unknown at the time.
The story echoed for Criss. He had auditioned for many Broadway shows, including âOnce,â âAmerican Idiotâ and âThe Book of Mormonâ but didnât get any of the roles. However, as soon as he appeared on âGlee,â he was offered the short engagement in âHow to SucceedâŚâ without an audition.
Throughout his performances, Criss brought plenty of his personal stories into the music. He sang his first audition song, âWhere is Love?â from the musical âOliver,â in his current vocal range, but then jokingly switched the key to his 7-year-old self halfway through the performance. Later in the show, he performed âWelcome Homeâ from âFanny,â which was the first musical he was ever in, and closed the show with âIf I Were A Rich Man,â his first starring role in high school.
Perhaps the highlights of the night were âHappy to Keep His Dinner Warmâ and âWicked Little Townâ from Crissâ two starring Broadway roles in âHow to SucceedâŚâ and âHedwig and the Angry Inch.â Criss shared anecdotes from his time from both shows before performing. Hilariously, though, Criss forgot the lyrics halfway through the latter song, but played it off saying it was bound to happen because he cannot even remember the lyrics to songs heâs written.
Before the show, Boca Raton was able to speak one-on-one with Criss.
