If you‘re someone who is always everone‘s go–to person for mundane, basic and silly questions, then you migh know the frustration of having to answer such questions many times. I am always that person who people go to to ask for a favor, a request or answer their questions like— how much is the shipping fee for...? What should I do...? What should I put? Is or are? Is this sentence correct? Please check this. Please do this.
If you’re not someone who experiences these things, or in fact, you are on the opposite side of this situatioon, then good on you. You probably have never been called ‘suplada’ or ‘not nice’ or ‘unhelpful’.
Imagine this, every day people bombard you with silly questions and requests— will your patience always be at a 100%? If that is still difficult to imagine, then think of a car’s tires.
Say, Car A is always being driven at a distance of 100 kilometers a day. Then you have another car, Car B which barely leaves the garage and is sometimes being taken out once or twice a week to the nearby shopping center or park. Which car’s tires do you think will be more worn out after a year? Obviously, Car A.
So of course, I couldn’t be nice ALL the time. People mistake my aloofness or reluctance to do their bid or answer their questions as a sign of me being a bad person. I’m ALWAYS being asked. I can’t ALWAYS be patient with your stupid questions especially about processes I’ve never experienced myself.
“Why I can’t log in on _________”
“I don’t know. I don’t have an account with ________”
“I don’t work for that website.”
“I’ll bring my laptop tomorrow. Please check it. Help me.”
“I don’t know. Look for some solutions online.” I said, more firmly.
Her to other people: “She refuses to help me. What an attitude she has.”
I’ve been studying another language for a year. Most of my classmates ask me questions every day. I don’t mind it most of the time. There are times that it’s just too much. We’re all learning. Why do I feel like I’m the teacher’s assistant or something? Why can’t I just say, “I don’t know” and not get any remarks? Why do I have to help you anyway? I am not being paid here, in fact, I paid the same fee as you did.
Remember the cars? Think of Car A being pushed to travel an additional 50 kilometers. Will its tires be less worn out? Still pristine?
Most of these are not give-and-take situations. It’s mostly me giving, giving and giving. And you still expect me to be nice and kind after all that?
Anyway, I just wanted to rant. Yes, I am not very nice all the time. I can be a bit mean— but it’s almost always because I’ve been provoked.
