The Blackbird - Ingrid Neropiuma (top): Shamelessly and explicitly bisexual protagonist of Blackbird. Strong-willed and raised by a family of criminals that could be likened to a mafia, which has taught her to be aggressive and violent when necessary. She hides that part of herself behind a confident, melodramatic, and highly entertaining persona.
The Genius - Matei Raven (top left): Pretty much the opposite of Ingrid. He’s shy and well-spoken, though his manner of speaking can make him appear far more uptight and snobby than he really is. he is incredibly loyal and dedicated to the few people who bother to befriend him and will fight anyone who insults his brother, despite having the physical gifts of a weed in the desert. The group nerd and pretty boy.
The Witch - Rouge Scarletina (top right): Fun-loving and adventurous, Rouge’s perpetually upbeat and optimistic attitude is what keeps the group going. She’s a lover of dance and nature, and is highly opinionated on many issues. If provoked, her temper could match that of Ingrid.
The Foxheart - Eben Charlize (middle left): Eben’s self-destructive and volatile personality tend to have catastrophic consequences for him, and by extension, the rest of the Mavericks. He constantly finds himself in undesirable situations and, without intending to or realising it, he often drags Rouge down with him. Ingrid teases him for his permanently grumpy face.
The Archangel - Neptune Vasquez (middle right): He pretends he’s like Eben and at heart is like Rouge. He embodies the punk rock aesthetic and his love of music is rivaled only by Rouge’s devotion to dancing. Despite being inept at expressing his emotions, he has a glaringly obvious crush on Timo.
The Oracle - Timo Vaska (bottom left): Though often quiet and reserved, Timo is more than capable of enduring the antics of the other Mavericks. His understanding of religion and philosophy is unparalleled, even at the university, and even Matei will point him out as being the smartest in the group. Patience like his is a virtue when your group is captained by Ingrid Neropiuma.
The Soldier - Lowin deVries (bottom right): Lowin is unusual in the sense that she is a Windwalker who lost her prided wings, and by extension the very thing that made her Windwalker rather than human. Even so, she refuses to bow her head and accept pity, and strives to further herself so that she isn’t known solely as the flightless Windwalker. Her resilience and bravery is admired throughout the city and university.
The Spider - Akira Hadiyyah (bottom): Akira, though loud and somewhat of a party animal around the other Mavericks, has a penchant for gathering information. She seems to know everything about everyone, and can move around the city as if invisible. Past heartbreak leads her to be strongly dedicated to the Mavericks’ cause, and a life debt owed to Timo means she will go to great lengths to ensure their success.
