Firstly, it doesn't even make sense because his body was too frail and fragile to even move so how did he get out of Oval Tower and who got him out of there? The doctor said he came from “overseas” as if we were supposed to understand what that meant??

And if I'm being really honest here, that doesn't even look like Sei. In fact, it looks nothing like Sei. If anything, it looks like a mixture between Aoba and Ryhme!Ren which would make more sense considering Ren is an alter of Aoba’s and he was in his human rhyme form when they made love in Aoba’s headspace, emphasizing that that's how Aoba truly sees Ren.

Let's be honest here: Sei’s skintone is nowhere near as healthy as Ren’s was in those last five minutes of his good end. The doctor said he was there for 3 or more months, but no amount of months of healing can make up for the 23 years of human experimentation done on Sei’s body, hence the emphasis on Sei begging Aoba to put him out of his misery; he was dying and rotting away. Their hair isn't even the same; Ren’s hair is more of an indigo color and it's shaggy, reminiscent of both Ren’s rhyme colors and Aoba’s mullet. Sei’s hair was jet black, slick and in a bob, and his eyes were black as well, whereas Ren’s eyes are hazel, much like Aoba’s.

Ren looks more like Aoba than he does Sei, so yeah of course the doctor would believe Ren when he said he was Aoba’s “twin brother.” because they look damn near the same. But, there's something that a lot of people seem to have forgotten and I could tell just by how much the majority just rolled with the whole “oh yeah that's Sei’s body just because the game said it was exactly one time and never touched on it again nor went into specific detail about how that's even possible.” SEI AND AOBA ARE NOT IDENTICAL TWINS. They are FRATERNAL TWINS. They DO NOT LOOK ALIKE AND THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO.

But, you know who DOES look alike, though??

Sei and Aoba are fraternal twins, yet Aoba and Ren in “Sei’s body” look identical to each other whist Ren in “Sei’s body” and Sei himself look nothing alike. Meaning that that cannot be Sei’s body. You know what makes more sense, though? If Ren’s body was one of those bodies that was in those glass tanks filled with water in that room Aoba was in with Virus and Trip.

Aoba and Sei are fraternal twins, meaning they're not meant to look alike, whereas the body Ren's consciousness is transferred to in his good end looks identical to Aoba and Rhyme!Ren. Hence, that literally cannot be Sei's body. Yes, Sei used every ounce of strength left in his body and used his power of giving life to give Ren a human body separate of Aoba and their system so that they could pursue a life together, he just didn't use his own body to do it.

Not only would that not make sense whatsoever considering Sei's real body was rotting away and decaying due to 23 years of human experimentation and would NOT take a few months to fully heal with the addition of literal bodies submerged in water tanks in one of the rooms of Oval Tower (which is what Sei telepathically speaks to Aoba through), BUT the fact that the game literally only said it ONE TIME AND THEN NEVER DOUBLED DOWN ON IT AND IN FACT THE ONLY THING I DO SEE THEM DOUBLING DOWN ON IS REN, SLY, AOBA, AND SHIROBA ALL HAVING SEPARATE HUMAN BODIES OF THEIR OWN SO THAT THEY CAN CO-EXIST OUTSIDE OF THEIR SHARED HEADSPACE ALONGSIDE SEI WHOM IS STILL IN HIS OWN BODY (WHICH LOOKS NOTHING LIKE REN'S GOOD END BODY, MIGHT I ADD AGAIN) IN ALL OF THE OFFICIAL ART FOR DRAMATICAL MURDER THAT I'VE SEEN??

Yeah, it's time for people to shut the fuck up and keep Aoba Seragaki's name out of their mouths and to stop falsely reducing him to an incestuous zoophile whenever he's brought up in the discussion of yaoi protags because he walked so that all of your little boy's love mcs could run. Out of all the things wrong with Dramatical Murder, everyone chose to hyperfocus on hating the mc over something that's not even true?? Aoba was abused, beaten, mentally broken down, suicidal, neglected, partook in various forms of self-harm as a coping mechanism, split his consciousness into three separate alters as a means to cope with the traumatizing and painful human experimentation done unto him while he was an infant, was forcefully severed from his twin brother as an infant which resulted in him dying, yet all I see whenever he's spoken about outside of the dmmd fandom is “lol didn't he fuck his dog 🤢” and “oh god not the brother fucker 🤢” like??

Aoba is such a beautiful character and it sickens me to see him reduced to something he's not by idiots who probably didn't even play the game or even watch a playthrough. Stop disrespecting him.

I don’t really know why it bothers me so much, but it does. I feel like there’s a lot of users that don’t have a very good grasp on how Aoba’s mind works and what it means to have Dissociative Identity Disorder, or DID.

Now, DMMd’s interpretation on DID is a bit fantastical considering the genre, but it still generally follows the same symptoms. 

Aoba has Dissociative Identity Disorder, yes. Basically that means he has another personality or identity up in his head, and this “alter” of his will take over from time to time. Aoba often has no recollection of the things that he did while his alter was in control.

Now focusing on that alter, or “Sly Blue” …

First thing I want to make clear is that “Sly Blue” is not a separate entity from Aoba. What bugs me the most is when people characterize Instinct as a completely different person from Aoba, like he’s another being entirely. This is not the case. Instinct/Desire may have a separate personality, but he’s still apart of Aoba. He still is Aoba. (I cannot include Ren in this because he did manage to become a separate being. That’s when things get weird and fantastical, so I’ll save that for another post.) Anyway, when it comes down to it, there’s not multiple people living in Aoba’s body. It is one mind that is coping with life through a damaging mental illness. Aoba is mentally ill.

DID is typically a trauma-based mental disorder. One thing I often see people tripping up on about Instinct and Aoba is when Instinct takes control. People seem to think that Instinct can take control whenever… or something? That’s not the case. Instinct only really makes a presence when Aoba is under some kind of stress. Throughout the game, we see Instinct telling Aoba to “destroy” when Aoba’s confronted with a potentially dangerous situation. Instinct only takes control if that situation becomes TOO much for Aoba.

Instinct is practically a defense mechanism for Aoba. He is there to protect Aoba. He takes control to save Aoba from as much trauma as possible. This happens frequently with Mink, in both the common route and Mink’s route. After Aoba’s parents left Midorijima, Aoba became so depressed that Instinct took control for several years. (Another instance where things get weird, but eh.) Instinct doesn’t take control to fuck around. He’s actually there to protect Aoba, from what I can see. Sadly, Aoba often fights Instinct’s presence.

Focusing a little more on Instinct, his name is not “Sly Blue”, either. I can’t recall a single time in the games where he refers to himself as Sly. He introduces himself as Aoba. Aoba Aoba Aoba. He wants to be recognized as Aoba, since he’s apart of him. Sly Blue is literally just his dumb Rhyme username. I’ve seen too many writers and fanartists have Instinct refer to himself as Sly, and it’s just… it isn’t right. Remember in the Ren’s route when we discover that the only thing Instinct really wanted was to be accepted by Aoba like Ren did? Remember when Aoba and Instinct became one? Yeah. It’s because they are different parts of the same person. They always have been.

It’s especially evident in Koujaku’s bad end, when we encounter Shiroba. “Shiroba” is basically a more concentrated, twisted version of Instinct. Throughout the ending, Instinct continually refers to himself as Aoba. He may not have been the same Aoba that Koujaku knew, but he was still Aoba.

I feel like there was more I wanted to add, but I can’t remember right now. I still haven’t played/read Mizuki’s route in re:code, so I don’t exactly know how that stuff fits into all of this.

Really though… bottom line is that Aoba is mentally ill, and Instinct, Shiroba and Aoba are all the same person.
