a general life update for my future self ~
some highlights of 2020 (during and between the UK lockdowns):
i made my own perfume (it’s called ‘temple water’), i learned how to weave (japanese kurashiki knotting), i quit the job in the gallery I found stressful, i started a Masters at the Royal College of Art (training as a design historian), i helped launch world architecture unlocked in my other (nicer) job, i began learning japanese, i began learning how to make instagram filters, new animal crossing!, i wrote a blog post (the first in a few years) on a 1920′s modernist kitchen, i found my parents don’t stress me out as much any more, my pet rabbit poco has been healthier and happier since i’ve been around in the daytime, i’m currently researching/writing about the instagram algorithm and my next module is on the material histories of asia using the V&A museum collection objects. dreams!
some of the worst bits of the year:
i developed a stomach ulcer from stress (work and home/housemate life), i had to cancel my ultimate dream holiday birthday trip to japan for the cherry blossom in march and was v depressed about it for months afterwards, my neighbour in my dumb london warehouse decided he was going to start fixing motorbikes over lockdown right outside my house all day and all of the night. vroom vroom :-(((, and generally: what even is ‘fun’ and ‘the outside world’ anymore by this point
